Credit card is very convinience to use and it help us a lot to do not bring many cash.
however, many of people get trap!

I am using credit card to purchase and pump petrol, but I don't like to owe money to bank or credit card, and for proper financial management, I pay the amount I use from credit card within 1 weeks it appear in my outstanding balance.
So, what I am advise to have an online banking with your credit card company, so you can easily check your balance and payment due date to avoid unnecessary high interest rate and finally get trap to be work for credit card company.

Credit card is for our convinience, my advise is to not have more than 2 credit cards and what I mostly prefer is debit card as what you spend is direct from your own account, so you only spend what you have.

As reminder, please do have save first and spend later habit for proper financial management and learn to invest.

It is depend on the credit card company policy. It is not about cheating or not, before apply anythings, please read carefully the term and condition and ask until understand. Some not responsible agent will not tell you everything, what they want is you sign up and they earn commission. So be careful.
If not happy with this company, you can cancel it and apply for the one you comfort to.

Just a note, Saadiq $aver has been reduced to 0.5% now for balance between RM0 - RM100000. As for e$aver account, it's been also further reduced to 0.4%, down from 0.7%. Going to close my e$aver account on Monday and transfer all the money back to my Public Bank account  sad.gif  Too bad, because i really liked them ... (for their savings's interest rate  laugh.gif )

I am the same as you, I like them but since the interest rate is coming down, I also going to transfer my money somewhere else. Not sure which bank offer comparable high interest ..Their Justone CA not bad at 1.38% for saving between RM2k to 50k but too lazy to go to branch in Kajang to activate.

My e$saver having zero balance for few month now. haha. just let them close it.

Even though SCB has slashed its interest rates for savings and current accounts, I thinks its rates are still very competitive or the highest in town. Btw, why do you need to activate your Just1 current ac in Kajang since you have the Just1 cc?

bro, the website shown is out-dated.

when u apply CC, the maybank staff will recommend you Maybank Petronas which is free for life.

and they also will introduce you the Maybank Islamic card... and also they will intro you the MBB Amex CC.

so, just walk in to MBB branch. u will be flooded with information and choices.

Too bad not everyone is allowed to simply open a Justone current account.

Bank Islam at 1.16% laugh.gif

Not going to open an account at Bank Islam as i suspect the rate will also drop very soon. Will proceed with my original plan and transfer all my money in Standard Chartered e$aver back to my Public Bank account. Public Bank is far more convenient as there are many Public Bank branches in Sabah rclxms.gif

Very competitive indeed. However, it's been slashed to the point that it is no longer economical to maintain the account. As we all know, Standard Chartered, just like any other foreign banks have very little branches. There is only 1 Standard Chartered branch in Kota Kinabalu which is located in the old city centre. Just imagine the petrol needed to drive all the way from our house to the old city centre just to get some money.

I know that we can use our Standard Chartered ATM card to withdraw money at the House ATM network namely HSBC, UOB Bank and OCBC Bank but the problem is that, all the HSBC, UOB Bank, OCBC Bank and Standard Chartered Kota Kinabalu branch located on the same street (basically just 2 minutes short walk away from each other). There isn't any benefit really.

Standard Chartered e$aver account was launched back in late 2007 with so much fanfare. It gave 2.5% of interest since it was introduced up till February 2009. Then it was cut down to 1.5%, after that 0.7% and now 0.4%. What a shame sad.gif

The annual fee can be easily waived by calling them up. Anyway, they do have 5 series of credit card that are free for life. See below :
Maybank Petronas VISA
- absolutely free for life, even if you never swipe it.
- available in Gold and Platinum.

American Express Gold Credit Card
- absoluty free for life, even if you never swipe it.

Maybank SonyCard VISA
- absolutely free for life, even if you never swipe it.

Maybank Ikhwan
- free for life**, must swipe at least 12 times in a year to get the annual fee waived.
- available in VISA Gold, VISA Platinum, AMEX Gold and AMEX Platinum

Maybank VISA Flex
- free for life**, must swipe twice in a month to get the annual fee waived.

Are you talking about installment plan ? Many shops do accept CIMB Bank credit card for 0% interest installment plan too. You might want to check it out.

It's so inconvenient! Like what I mentioned before, I don't like the way SCB issued Just1 ac which was from Kajang branch. The location is at Prima Saujana at the end of Cheras-Kajang Highway / Kajang Bypass. Didn't SCB know that Kajang is some 40km away from KL.

Uh oh, I think I messed up.

I bought something that I can't normally afford with the intent to convert it to CIMB iPay Plan.

After making the purchase, I re-read their T&C, and only then did I notice:
QUOTE
5. Not  applicable  for CIMB Bank Partner Cards  and
CIMB Bank Platinum BusinessCards that earn cash
  rebate and double Bonus Points.
The card in use was CIMB Petronas.
Is it possible to convince the CS to somehow convert my purchase to installments? Anyone with the experience? sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Sony Visa actually is a co-brand card, which means it is the VISA card, but it offers much privilege when u use it to buy the sony items. You will get extra warranties, 10x treat points depends on their promotion. You also can find that there is generic VISA credit card offered by maybank at their website, which is not stick with any company

AMEX is a generic card, it never stick with any company naturally, the good thing is, most of the AMEX credit card offer you to get 2x point (spend RM1 get 2 point) but u have to check the maybank credit card website for more detail, it will stated every privilege and benefit for each of their card.

You no need to force yourself to "Buy" Sony product because you have Sony Card, if u purchase other non-Sony product you still can get the Treat Point, so no worries.

If you really want to waive your annual fee for life, just make sure this card doesn't have some "hidden" requirement when giving you Free for Life term. CIMB DA, CIMB Petronas, Maybank Petronas, Maybank Sony, AMEX Gold CC they are all offer Free for Life without any condition. Most of the citibank credit card require you call and ask for annual fee waiver, so consider before apply, you have to call them every year or else they will charge the annual fee on you.

For your income u can apply for most of the Gold Credit Card already.

AMEX is neither VISA nor Mastercard. It is American Express, issued either by a partner financial institution or American Express itself.

American Express is not as widely accepted as VISA and Mastercard in Malaysia and also overseas. But should you shop frequently at those mega shopping centre such as KLCC, Pavillion, The Gardens, Mid Valley and 1Utama. Then it won't be a problem. Most big shops do accept AMEX. For example :
- SHELL
- Kinokuniya
- MPH
- Times Bookstore
- Carrefour
- Pizza Hut
- Giant
- Cold Storage
- Jaya Jusco
- Parkson
- Robinsons
- Isetan
- Metrojaya
- GAP
- Calvin Klein
& many more (basically all the high end stores such as Louis Vuitton all accept AMEX).

Then you might want to consider Maybank Petronas VISA. It is free for life and NO minimum swipe required to get the annual fee waived. It is some of the few 100% free for life credit card with no string attached.

I don't think Citibank Choice credit card is good. If i'm not mistaken, it is like a no frills credit card. Whatever charged to the card will earn you NO reward point.

You are qualified for Citibank Gold credit card. If you apply now, the annual fee for the first 2 or 3 years (i couldn't remember exactly) will be automatically waived. After that you will need to call in once a year to get the annual fee waived.

Anyway, if you're interested to apply for a credit card from an international bank. I suggest you to look into HSBC. Their promotion is comparable to Citibank but the points required to redeem stuff (such as shopping vouchers) is lower than Citibank. The only downside is that the HSBC credit card points accumulated is not evergreen, unlike Citibank.
