If it is this hard to enable thethering on the new OS 3.0, maybe we can consider to use PDAnet(3rd party apps) later on.
I've tried this before, and it really staisfied my need. Simple but yet it works like a charm.

Can tether 3G Data connection and also wifi connection from your iphone to your laptop. (but why on earth do we need to share wifi from iphone as if our laptop dont have one tongue.gif maybe to be used with desktop i think.. heheh )

this interests me...
but do we need to JB the iphone?
if yes...then i wont be interested anymore... biggrin.gif

thx for sharing the info though mate.. wink.gif

Okay, awesome news just came in.

I have a single slot for a 32GB iPhone 3G[S] from either Vodafone Italy or TIM. My understanding is that the Italian iPhones are fully unlocked officially because of their law (similar to Malaysian and Singaporean iPhones), and I have two very good friends there on an extended stay in Rome, Italy starting on the 29th this month. If anyone is interested on a chance to get the iPhone 3G[S] before Maxis even have the balls to finally decide their release date/price, this is it.

My contacts had prior experience buying iPhone 3G from Rome before, so they know the basics on getting the iPhone (unlock status, buying outright not contract plan) so I'm more than relieved that they are there on my behalf looking for the 3G[S].

Once the details on the Italian iPhone 3G[S] comes in and their unlock status is confirmed (I am already more than confirmed about this, but just for the peace of mind), I will proceed with this.

This ship is about to set sail, and there's only one seat left in this voyage. Your call.

@CooLeRthings,
Er.. what about Internet Tethering through USB?  What do U need to setup?! *grins*  Am quite sure something needs to be setup because for BT we need to enable PAN.  For USB thus far, Peer to Peer Adhoc Connection doesn't work *siGh*

Hmm tethering only seems to work if the PC has itunes installed.

I managed to tether from my house last night, no probs. I tried to tether with my laptop at work to get around the hundreds of blocked websites (no itunes installed), doesn't work. Even with the tethering on, the laptop doesn't detect the phone as a network device, detects as camera only.

Bluetooth for some reason I can't get my laptop to pair with my 3g *shrug*

Simple Hack to Enable Tethering on iPhone OS 3.0 (Will this work for DIGI EDGE)

The non-availability of tethering and MMS features in the U.S at the time of the launch of iPhone OS 3.0 was probably the most disappointing news that was announced at the WWDC 2009 Keynote address.

However, some clever folks have figured out a way to enable tethering on iPhone OS 3.0 without the need to jailbreak their iPhone.

There are several methods floating around to enable tethering on iPhone OS 3.0 but I found the method where you can enable it via iPhone's Safari, the easiest.
The process of tethering allows your laptop to use your iPhone's data connection to surf the internet.

The idea behind the hack to enable tethering on the iPhone running iPhone OS 3.0 is to download a .ipcc, which is carrier specific and update your iPhone with it via iTunes. The procedure gets even simpler using iPhone's Safari browser.

Step 1 to 8:

Folks at BenM.at have hosted several iPhone tethering configuration files for many carriers across several countries. You need to go to the following link http://help.benm.at/help.php using iPhone's Safari browser.
