Now: Peer to Peer connectivity.

Phone 3.0 now has a standard system for finding other devices in the same area - no WiFi network needed.

Automatic discovery performed over Bluetooth.

No pairing.

Taking accessory support to the "next level."

iPhone OS 3.0 can talk directly to an accessory.

iPhone can control the speaker's EQ, for example.

Now talking about FM transmitters for cars.

FM signal can be controlled from the iPhone's display.

Now talking about medical devices and accessories.

Also enabling some of this over Bluetooth. "We support all the standard built-in protocols."

iPhone OS 3.0 has over 100 new features for customers, starting with Copy and Paste

Apple has been workign really hard on a copy and paste UI.

Scott launches Mail, replies to a message, double taps on a word to present a cut, copy, paste popup.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a single application where you can search across all these apps? Spotlight comes to iPhone OS 3.0.

Flick to the left from the home screen to get Spotlight UI

Q: Where do you stand on tethering?
A: There’s two pieces needed to support that: client side and working with carriers. We’re absolutely supporting tethering in the client side in iPhone 3.0, but we’re working with carriers around the world to see when they can add tethering support on their networks. But we are building that support into iPhone 3.0.

Firmware 3.0 is for developers and not for mass users yet. It will expire within weeks and the next firmware will be seeded to developers again for tweaks/improvement till is at the final stage of release.

So stay away from downloading Fw 3.0.

Cheers

This thread was made to discuss the new 3.0 firmware as per the post here and also included the live feed: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/962964/+100

A video was shared by nokia2003 on the new firmware 3.0 here: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore...30&id=264659389

TS stringfellow also include the speculation of the new iPhone after then live firmware 3.0 feed.

As for frimware 3.0, it's only for developers, not users and it expires in the weeks to come which will cause the phone to lose call functions etc until the next beta is seeded to developers again.

But, sincerely thank you for sharing with us your findings as we already know some of those features thru the live feed and the video nokia2003 provided and of couse, news from various sites.

Do keep sharing more info on the hidden features of the 3.0

To add on, we have Malaysian developers here and do check their work: buUuk and Puzzlelympic

here's the link:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/846369/+500

I may prepare a thread just for Malaysian iPhone developers in supporting them if the need is in demand. So for all iPhone developers, do let me know if you need a thread to feature your apps/games.

Thank you.

Cheers

Ten Signs a New iPhone is Coming Soon

THE TEN SIGNS:

1. AT&T is selling refurbs for $99 (again) with activation and plan

2. O2 is giving away free iPhones with their low cost plans (not their expensive plans)

3. AT&T and Apple are now selling iPhones without contract (or second line) knowing that more will go Jailbroken this way. (If you have $600-$700 to spend)

4. France is now selling them unlocked at department stores.

5. China Unicom might get offloaded a few million on May 17th, ahead of new model.

6. AT&T executives have the new models for testing and are so excited they can't keep their mouths shut.

7. UK retailers are selling unlocked 3G iPhones.

8. WWDC, the traditional launching pad for new iPhones was announced yesterday. It will be June 8-12th.

9. Remember all of those extra iPhone part numbers found in the 3.0 build? Yeah, those can't all be Tablets.

10. Steve Jobs is coming back at the end of June. You don't think he will be empty handed do you?

Apple's second iPhone 3.0 beta that was seeded today offers the usual collection of bug fixes and improvements, but does introduce one new feature: users are now allowed 11 pages of apps (180 apps total) on your iPhone and iPod Touch.

The finding was posted with screenshot by TheLoopBlog and was subsequently verified by another user. The currently shipping version of the iPhone firmware only allows 9 pages of Apps (148 apps total). While the distinction may seem small, many users have already run into the 148 application limit in their day to day use.

While Apple has been rumored to offer more robust application support in future versions of the iPhone operating system, no announcements were made during the iPhone 3.0 media event.
