@spanker,
-Could you edit the topic description so it would states ST3*340AS also (this series is the mostly affected), since you're the thread starter (TS)?
-Or, maybe you can just put "Seagate 500GB/750GB/1TB 7200.11 drives" only.
Regards.

DON'T APPLY THE AD14 FIRMWARE! It's a for a different model and version.
It's actually a fix for the SD14 firmware, which had a performance issue bug. It's not for the SD15 drives.
BTW, it seems Seagate will do an official announcement on the 21st, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Seagate give free hdd to replace the faulty ones?

oh wow, i was just about to get a 1TB Seagate drive, cus from the benchmarks it looked great, but after reading alot of their drives failed within months, i think i'll go for WD, my 200GB WD drive is 4+ years old but still going very strong.

The one i mention is this SD1A from this link http://computerappblog.com/2008/12/02/seag...irmware-update/ is this applicable to our 1tb drive?

QUOTE(spanker @ Jan 14 2009, 01:38 AM) Man I was duped into buying this HDD because it was cheap, now I know why. It is reported that the 7.11 Barracudas with the AD15 firmware has problems and retailers are getting up to a 30% return rate for these bricks. Physically, your HDD is fine, so the freezing trick will NOT help. Symptons after an uncertain number of booting up your HDD will not be detected by BIOS (and possibly all your other SATA/PATA devices, even non-Seagate ones), or your BIOS reports it having 0GB capacity. Your data is still intact, however, something in the firmware is telling the BIOS that it is busy. You can read some bits of it here: http://forums.seagate.com/stx/search?submi...AS&page_size=10Or search on on google for the ST3500320AS+BIOS Simply due to the fact that Seagate doesn't want to acknowledge that this is a problem (because they don't want to fix it, not for free anyway) is enough for me to boycott Seagate products for EVER. they extend to 5 years warranty
