To those who are going to RMA their HDD, please RMA directly from Seagate, this will usually take only 1 week for the hdd to come back.

Refer to the HDD rma tutorial. It's all there.

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...8954&hl=seagate

Going through reseller or shop will usually take much longer. IF TS reading this, please post this info in the first page.

Hmm, if Seagate tech support say can, then maybe can? I read on the MSFN forum thread that there might be chance of bricking the drive if you use the AD14/SD14 firmware, since it's actually "downgrading". Regarding the announcement, it's also sourced from German news site + reports of people from Seagate tech support.

Hi all,

Please do not simply update your firmware. Latest news now is that Seagate has finally acknowledged this problem and they will be releasing a firmware soon.

http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/self...sp?DocId=207931

Also, a statement from their spokesman:
http://techreport.com/discussions.x/16246

So those with this drive that is still running, hang in there make sure you have backups before you shutdown each time.

Those with this brick-ed drive and need to get the data back, wait for the news on free recovery.

YES! Good to see Seagate's acknowledging the issue finally, and even offering free data recovery services to all uses with bricked drives. Let's hope they don't screw this up even more.

Already contacted Seagate tech support Malaysia about the issue, I hope to hear something good back from them.
