the xxxxxAS models are affected if they carry the SD15 firmware, which I think is supposed to be OEM package. But some people in MSFN forum said they bought a retail pack and the drive is still the OEM version
*
How to check the firmware of the hdd model?

hey, no need to panic. It's only a 30% failure rate, so if you know 1 other guy who has a broken 7200.11, then chances are yours will be safe. That's why Seagate's not bothered with correcting the problem, because people who experienced it will just RMA or bring it to some data recovery and pay the arm and leg instead of suing them as they rightfully should.

Though technically, all 7200.11 drives with the DS15 firmware will definitely have a much shorter lifespan than any other drives, especially if you power cycle often.
*
Mind if i ask whats power cycle? hmm.gif

The concentrations among 500gb, 750gb, 1TB models with SD15 firmware, both china and thailand should include.
The common symptoms
-drive on the next boot will not detected in BIOS
-drive might detect but only "0GB"

What you can do, keep it running and dont cold boot. Backup your data.
*
u mean keep it running 24/7? whats cold boot?

normally i on the hdd to backup then after finish.. i off it... is that ok?

DON'T APPLY THE AD14 FIRMWARE! It's a for a different model and version.

It's actually a fix for the SD14 firmware, which had a performance issue bug. It's not for the SD15 drives.

BTW, it seems Seagate will do an official announcement on the 21st, so let's keep our fingers crossed.
*
What announcement is that? Seagate give free hdd to replace the faulty ones? laugh.gif

I would suggest to wait for Seagate for official news. Don't try to pandai-pandai sendiri, may end up with a permanently bricked hard disk!!

Just use the online serial number checker to see if yours is affected, if yes, then send a mail to discsupport and wait. Serial numbers need to be in CAPS.
*
That's what i agree with. Simply flash... nanti.. ur okay hdd become k.o!.. LOL tongue.gif
