if i'm not wrong, 10k isn't the limit.. you just have to declare if you are bringing over 10k...

LOL GPS... I don't like using it as it doesn't necessarily point out the best route. Note that shortest route doesn't equate to easiest route.
I prefer using Routeplanner to plan my journey and then use Melway during the drive. Google Maps is useful too since you can preview the place you're heading to using the streetview option.

Three don't have any iphone bundle with their plan, but if you have an iphone and it's not contracted to any telco then Three has among the best data/price ratio in the market. So your solution would be go to Optus and buy the phone and pay the unlocking fees for it, then go to Three and sign up for their plan.

But we will see since Vodafone and Three will merged their Australian operation soon.

vodafone and three are merging? hmm.gif i dunno if this is the case with this merging. but before my friend was part of another telco. maybe orange not sure. he heard they were merging so he joined them. got a plan. got the free phone. but apparently after the merging. his contract with orange becomes void, because orange no longer exists. so in the end he just had to cancel the new account they made for him and walk away. free fone and all hmm.gif if you know anyone in vodafone or three maybe you should find out if this could be the case. hehe. if it is then you can get a free phone leh. biggrin.gif

GPS only useful if you need it right away and have no time or lazy to plan journey hahahaa........either way it still gets you there but slower by a bit only if you roughly know where you're going

melways is probably one of the best maps ive ever used. as long as you know how to use it. you wont need a gps. especially because melbourne roads are very straight and lined up in grids. very easy. you might need a GPS in sydney though.

Maybe the younger generation don't remember, but there was a time where you needed to go into a physical bank and withdraw money over the counter. You still can do that, and your student waiver should exempt you from any processing fee.

Close, but that is not the full story.

You can only bring out RM1000 in cash out. However, you can bring out foreign currency and travelers’ cheque's not more than RM10,000 worth.

That said, you don't have to bring so much money with you! I walked around with about A$200 in cash when I first arrived.

I wouldn't use the present tense. The merger still has to go through ACMA, ACCC and the shareholders. Through I concede the merger will probably go through.

Hi, just wondering anyone here studying or studied in Deakin Melbourne Campus before?? I'm going for my post graduate studies in a few months time. Wondering if it is best to stay in Burwood or other places which are more nearer to the city but far from uni.

Any advice?

Depends on whether your lodging is paid for or not and whether bank account is setup before arriving. You probably could still take money out after opening bank account with passport....not too sure on that. ATM cards take around a week to arrive
