A soft case will not protect the MBP much better than the hard case...

Hi String,

From your post:
QUOTE
But it on what it can do NOW, and based on what you need it for, at the present.

im abit confuse, buy it on what it can do now...basically, i'm a windows user for ages never touch Mac OS before, i was very tempting to get an iMac at the first place but since Macrumours mentioned the new released will be out soon in Jan (finger cross) but i need something portable where i travel once a month back to M'sia by bus...so im worrying Spore/JB custom will ask lots of question about electronics stuff bringing in/out. hmm.gif

So off iMac, then comes to portability, I was thinking MBP but im not a graphic designer cum Multimedia guy laugh.gif I "Admire" MBP with larger screen and sharp quality display, althought the Processor/hdd/graphic card + backlit keyboard is the advantage from MB -->MBP with extra RM1300 (comparison from high-end MB --> Base MBP)

My usage just to surf net, watching movies, listening to music n P2P. Another factor i holding back my purchase due to P2P...coz i used to stress my laptop 24/7 rolleyes.gif but it can survive for close to 5 yrs now. So i might worry MBP suffer from "internal bleeding" wink.gif

After reading your post regarding MBA, i love the concept u wrote it there.... smile.gif although MBA only comes with 1USB i still okie with it...but it started again...the old model or the new model MBA? Well...i know the MB/MBA will be good for portability and carrying around n the price tag is not as high as MBP would consider it as well.

For the picture quality indeed MBP wins.. an excuse for me to get it but i only left it stationary at home for most of the time.

And another thing by watching movies under .mkv/ rmvb/ .avi how is the graphic card utilization with nVidia 9600?
Will the graphic card enhanced the colour boost for movies?

Basically, spending a huge amount of money into things that i don’t really utilize it is kind of wasted. nod.gif I agree with that biggrin.gif

To the above poster. My only problem with the MBA is that there is no expandability. What happens if your batter dies on you (they have limited cycles)? The only option would be bring it to a mac store.

Snow leopard (the new os) will also take advantage of the new GPUs on the laptop so it will be better to go with the pros. However, it comes with a price!

Perhaps I should just go for the 2.0 GHZ base model -- there is not much difference from the 2.4 right? And if you want to watch movies, you can always plug it into your tv/lcd

A laptop should be for portability 15" is okay, but I would prefer a smaller screen. 12" was perfect.

What I meant by "buy it based on what it can do now, not what it promises in the future" is that futureproofing does not work based on placing high-specs on a laptop and hoping it would last you longer than buying a laptop with a specs that you need and upgrade as necessary later in the future.

Based on your usage, a Macbook works fine. I myself have a Merom White Macbook 2.16Ghz that has been relegated into a desktop of sort, running 24/7 for almost a year now, this is my workhorse, and it has not failed me one bit. I've stressed her much by ripping DVDs , while tagging the ones that I'm done with using MetaX, at the same time opening a couple of windows of Safari, and listening to iTunes, as well as streaming that to my Apple TV at the same time. IT just works, which shows you don't need the Macbook Pro, unless you need the specs that Pro offers to do professional-grade work. Hell, I've even stretched his old Macbook to the limit by doing Final Cut Express video-edits!

Picture quality, yes, the MBP wins hands down, although if you do look at the comparison shots, Macbook Pro and Macbook Air is neck and neck. If you are leaning towards MBA, get Revision B, a.k.a the second gen. First-gen although fixed with SMC updates from Apple, do still tend to overheat and shuts one core down, unless I ran Coolbook .
It does not make any difference watching movies while running on discrete or integrated graphic card, they all look the same. The GMA950 itself have proven to be able to run HD movies on Quicktime, so it is capable. SO now the question remains, what are you getting the MBP for? If it is portable screen size, then Apple basically have your hands tied, you have no choice but to get the MBP. But if you are getting it under the notion that the MBP plays better movies, it does not. As for better screen quality, that depends on what you can live with. I chose not to burden myself with a heavy laptop, at a size that is not convenient for me to carry around. All that power under the hood would be wasted for the activities that I would do, so MBA is perfect for my daily usage.

Craig Berger, an analyst with Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co, reported today that Apple is getting ready to introduce a "lower-cost version" of the iPhone.
"Some call this device the iPhone nano," Berger wrote in a research note. " Whatever one calls it, we believe this device is on its way."

Berger does not expect the product to be ready for a Macworld introduction. The basis for the information is based on "checks" with Apple suppliers. This report adds to a growing number of hints that Apple is preparing what many have labeled an iPhone "Nano" -- a smaller, cheaper version of the current iPhone.

Meanwhile, the analyst also believes that the iPod Shuffle may get even smaller and a cheaper version of the MacBook could also be introduced, possibly in the middle of the 1st quarter of 2009. He does not believe the cheaper MacBook would qualify as a "netbook" -- a market Apple has specifically said they are not interested in pursuing at this time.

Then already waste out the money to apply it on?
Should email the skin shop ask about this matter

Uh. It seems that after calibrating, my battery decreased!
I let the MacBook to power off by itself. Correct or not?

I've been using the MB for a week.. I should say that the thing that I love the most for the moment is the touchpad. I mean the multitouch.. for the 1st time, I would prefer the touchpad rather than an external mouse smile.gif
anybody else agree?

Yes, you need to let the Macbook powered off by itself (while using the Macbook) and let another 5 hours before you switch on again.

I also discovered something weird, when I use the Graphics Option: Higher Performance, my MBP is not charging fully 100%...but only stayed at 95%....

It is being mention in apple support page that once reach 100%, it wont charge again (to avoid over charge).
It will start charging again once it goes below 95%.. so it is not a problem. thumbup.gif
