Just a quick review of my experience with buying the ALPHA low ceiling fan...
FIRSTLY: There were problems with the installation - one of the screws used for installation was missing from the box! I had three ways to rectify this - to either get new screws from the Alpha factory, or to order it from the retailer (who will then order it from the factory), or I could go to some specialist screw shops in Jalan Ipoh to find this 'specialised' screw that is meant for this specific model... As my electrician was there to install everything, I had to take the fastest way -- that is to get it straight from the Alpha factory in Shah Alam... a nightmare journey via KESAS...
SECOND: One of the fans after installation made a slight noise at speed "3" and above. It was like a knocking sound that was easily discernible if the room was quiet. How to sleep at night like this?? I got my electrician to come over to inspect it... turns out it's the product defect, and not an installation issue. Had to book an appointment with an Alpha technician... headache. But at least they were fast to process my query -- it took them about a week to come though, and the problem was solved simply by slotting in a piece of cardboard (??) into one of the gaps within the body of the fan... FOC.
THIRD: These fans do not wobble... and are relatively quiet. But I detect a slight mechanical hum when I turn it on, and while it's running. I'm not sure if this is true to most fans in the market nowadays... but it's disappoint that it's not completely silent except for the blades swishing through the air. Maybe like 5 decibels...
Overall, if not for the early hiccups, these low-ceiling fans seem sturdy enough... I don't mind the low drone-hum noise either...

Guys,
I need advise. I am moving to a single storey with low ceiling (normal ceiling). The rooms dont have existing hook. A nearby electrical shop told me that to fix the hook first require to add additional wood plank because the existing one not strong enough. This is what the lady said.
Can anybody advise? Thanks.

Yes, because fan weight is not light.

Even a light hook need additional support. Unless the ceiling already have support (wood / metal) enough strength to support it.
You don't want fan drop middle of the night.

Owh ok so I get it. The additional wood plank is a must then. Thanks. The standard planks which they use to attach the ceiling is not strong enough?

To hold the ceiling, nope. But some section will have a bigger truss which can support. That provide if the location of the truss match the position you want. If you have access to your roof, is not hard to install yourself (If you are a DIY person)

Yes, I will need to see this. Guessing from it, the truss where the lighting is fixed on should normally be bigger than the rest.

If you feel like taking a drive you may be able to get good deals at the lighting shops along old klang road. I find prices in this area can be more competitive than most. Best is to check in the areas close to you before popping there so you know if the price offered is competitive.

If you talk about "Top Ten", and the surrounding shop is not very competitive for fans. Light yes, but mostly are cheapo quality. Unless you buying like 100s of fans. Saving maybe few ringgit.
I got most of my fans in Legend ss2. At first, Legend sales person told me go over to Top Ten and the other light shop around the same role, he say much cheaper. When i go over, price are few ringgit cheaper, and maybe RM 5 if you use cash. Than I waited like 15 mins for people to served me.. everyone are so busy and service so lousy.
End up, I go back SS2 Legend buy, and total is only RM 5 difference. Not worth the agony and lousy service in Top Ten. Unless you stay nearby.
