* 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)"

In other names it requires 1x6 pin and 1x8 pin.

PCIE 2.0 doubles the gigatransfer per second of PCI 1.1 from 2.5GT/s to 5GT/s so performance wise 2.0 is 2x greater than 1.1
Iirc PCIe2.0 operates at 200MHz vs. PCIe1.x which operates at 100MHz.

Take for example same setting but with pcie2.0 compare to pcie1.1 say bench mark is there a lot different, secondly say fps is it quiet significant.

U will run just fine using a PCI-E 1.1 slot. You won't get a noticeable performance increase from the 2.0.
As for FPS, it's only 2-3% difference like 5 FPS which is very small & not worth to upgrade.

PCIe 1.1 and 2.0 differ not much,

but if you want to go for the best, go for 2.0

guys, pci-e 16x 1.1 isn't even saturated yet. the difference between pci-e 16x 1.1 and 2.0 is minimal at best.

how many runs did you do? its better to get an average because you can get fluctuations.

Glad that someone asked the difference between PCIe 1.1 vs. PCIe 2.0. Since there's not much performance gained, then it won't make much sense to upgrade my mobo tongue.gif

Ya.. not much difference... but sometimes ur mobo is bottlenecking the performance as well..

How can i know or how do i check whether my mobo or my cpu is bottlenecking or limiting the GPU performance? Any software to check that?

if u have a dual core running faster than 2.4Ghz, then no worries about cpu bottleneck. mobo wont really bottle neck your gpu, as long as it is providing the right FSB. n ya, this 1.1 vs 2 pci-e is not significant. hell, they didnt saturate the pci-1. so dont worry.

hahaa... for example la...
u r using AMD and another person is using intel...
in my last case... my X2 5200 @ 3.1ghz against E6550 @ 3.6ghz
both are doing 3870 crossfire @ stock...
my score on 3D Mark 06 is 12K.. and the other person score is 15K...
from this u can guess that ur proc is bottlenecking the GC...
i've ask all the pros in benching.. all of them tell me that my proc is bottlenecking the card... cry.gif
i even tried Ocing the card, the score won't budge.. still @ 12K...

Hmm... But i have tried the same E6600 + 88GT on 2 boards.. the scores are different le...
1.P35-DS3
2.Foxconn MARS P35

Foxconn got higher scores compared to DS3.. same settings same clock.. just different board

Thanks for the reply. But 3D Mark scores comprises of many factors such as what model of mobo, gc, cpu, ram, psu, hard disk, etc. It might be either one that is limiting the 3dmark score tongue.gif. If both AMD X2 5200 and Intel E6550 has identical components, only differences are the CPU and mobo then i guess it will be much easier to isolate whether the cpu or mobo is limiting the GPU tongue.gif

Anyway it would be kind of a big hassle to check if mobo/cpu is limiting the GPU if only one can compare with someone with similar setup.

But that still does not shows either mobo is limiting or bottlenecking the GPU because the scores are a sum of many factors including mobo, cpu, ram, gpu, etc.

not yet..maybe next series(5000) pcie 2.0 will show its truly potential...but on 8 times lanes compare to 16 times lanes on crossfire set up it shows a little on 4870 but only few hundred point...
so i guess next year pcie 2.0 will be fully utilize by the graphic card..
