I still can't decide what to do with this part. I dont have anythin in mind yet. I can go for xfire 4870 if i want but the heat it generate kinda worry me (pc are on all the time). I still duno whether I want to switch back to the red camp. 4870x2 sure look interesting tho. Maybe just wait n see how since i still dont have the money to do this upgrade.

2gb is sort of overkill. 1gb still ok. Can a Coolermaster M700w psu support 4870x2 when the system have like 7-8 hdd? hmm I'll put the 4850x2 into consideration if they can push down the price. If it just usd100 bah forget it.

Juine please read first page next time.

* 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)"

In other names it requires 1x6 pin and 1x8 pin.

I play abit of Crysis and Bioshock just now.. everything at high and 1680x1050 no aa damn song..

seriously.. I hope to enjoy more games like Crysis in different genre... which push the pc to the limit. don't you people think PC gaming are dying? come come go go just that few title.. yet our gfx card are getting more meaner and bigger horsepower but it's a shame didn't put it into a good use. I seriously hope.. more and more pc games can really gauge with all these card.

You are bottlenecked by your CPU. Your E6400 only 2133Mhz? I'm sure can O/C further. I run my FSB at 350Mhz, CPU @ 350 X 8 =2.8Ghz (E4500 only)...and a 4850 (650/1000) with 2GB can get 11+++ in 3DMark06. Very mild O/C with stock cooler, and slight voltage increase in CPU core.

Increasing FSB does a lot more than CPU speed. Try to get as high FSB as you can get. It's very easy to O/C a C2D and the benefits are very substantial.
I no oc my pc hardware, coz my pc are on most of the times. I know my cpu is bottlenecking, got plan to change it long time ago but now waiting for nahalem.

I don't play 3dmark2006 anyway... thx for advise! will bench again to see the different.. when I upgrade my cpu.

shocking news!!

Say goodbye to XFX & EVGA nvidia cards...

THE PAIN JUST KEEPS coming for Nvidia, this time in the partner space. Two of their key 'alpha' partners have just defected.

It is nearly impossible to make money selling Nvidia cards right now, NV squeezed partners margins too much, and when the going got rough, prioritised its own margins over partner survival. This gave partners the choice of popping like a zit financially or moving to less green pastures.

Like Gainward before them, two of the largest ones, XFX and EVGA have defected. Want to bet Nvidia doesn't know yet? In any case, partners leaving a company like rats leaving a sinking ship is never a good sign, lets see what happens in the coming months when the pain really piles on at NV.

The really interesting part is who they defected to, and it isn't ATI. Paperwork has been signed though, and it is a done deal.

Like we said it is going to be an interesting summer.

If you guys having problem with the heat, I really suggest you get Thermaltake HR03-GT as what I can recommend coz personally I used it and I think it is good for the 4870.

I'm getting like 57-59 idle. I use artic silver 5 on it. A Zalman fan on top of the cooler. Non air-con room.

I tried to run the stock cooler for the first time to check whether it can start.. wow.. I'm shock by the noise it make. I still haven't do the profile thing you people mention.

Even the sales guy and a fren also said alot people are changing to stock cooler as it is very hot. Most people are buying Thermaltake Duo Orb for it.

Anyone know about PowerColor 4870 with non reference cooler ?? I think its called Zero Term.. correct if im wrong..

We managed to get more details about the upcoming Powercolor HD 4870 PCS card, the same one that was pictured recently. According to our sources, this card will be available in two versions, the 512MB and the 1GB version and both of the cards will be cooled by Powercolor's PCS cooling. We managed to confirm that the GPU will be overclocked to 800MHz.

The cooler itself is custom made by Zerotherm and it comes with dual S-shape 6mm diameter heatpipes which are connected to no less than 94 aluminum fins. The heatsink is cooled by a 2 ball bearing 8 cm fan. As we wrote before, this should reduce the cards temperature up to 20°C when compared to the reference cooling.

Another interesting detail is the card's phase power design, as Powercolor decided to change some things there as well. As you may know, the reference HD 4870 comes with 3-phase core and 2-phase memory power design. According to our sources, the new Powercolor HD 4870 PCS will use 4-phase core and 2-phase memory power design.

Some update with the temp.

I tried to play The Witcher just now for like 2-3hrs of gameplay while monitoring the temp at the other monitor.

It never pass 70'c .. most of the time I check is 66'c using Gpu-z

My setting in The Witcher is 1920x1200 .. everything at max. I know The Witcher is not an intensive game.. like Crysis, this is purely only for references.
