I thinking of getting PowerColor HD4870 1GB DDR5 PCS, said to be super R770 Where got sell this PowerColor HD4870 1GB DDR5 PCS?Added on July 20, 2008, 10:21 am QUOTE(OmniAtlas @ Jul 19 2008, 11:42 PM) BTW, have any of you guys tried installing Mac OS X (hackintosh?)? Is there driver support for the ATI on mac os? Currently no hackintosh driver for HD4850 yet. Perhaps later macvidia will come out with new development. Just keep ur fingers crossed atm.I still remember last time hackintosh MacOSX 10 Tiger works on my ancient Pentium 4 Soc478, Gigabyte GA-SR533 mobo, FX5200, etc. Although it was not fully functioning still given me a chance to run it on my pc. U might wanna try learn this more at http://forum.osx86scene.com/index.php. But need some time and effort in learning this. This post has been edited by owikh84: Jul 20 2008, 10:21 AM |

QUOTE(Dickong @ Jul 20 2008, 10:41 PM) PCIE 2.0 doubles the gigatransfer per second of PCI 1.1 from 2.5GT/s to 5GT/s so performance wise 2.0 is 2x greater than 1.1Iirc PCIe2.0 operates at 200MHz vs. PCIe1.x which operates at 100MHz. |

QUOTE(Dickong @ Jul 20 2008, 10:57 PM) Take for example same setting but with pcie2.0 compare to pcie1.1 say bench mark is there a lot different, secondly say fps is it quiet significant. U will run just fine using a PCI-E 1.1 slot. You won't get a noticeable performance increase from the 2.0.As for FPS, it's only 2-3% difference like 5 FPS which is very small & not worth to upgrade. |

Warranty period for different brand might vary. If I'm not mistaken Gigabyte provides 3-year warranty while others providing 2 years only.

QUOTE(Dickong @ Jul 21 2008, 04:35 PM) Hi, my HD4870 idle at 80-81c and full load at 87-88c it seem very hot , moreover i did put a 12cm fan blowing in front and a blower sucking out air n still got that high temp. Any ideal to let the temp go lower. It is normal for the stock fan speed. I assumed that u didn't change to fan speed setting as per the 1st post.U may set it to 50% & trust me u'll gonna see the difference in temp dropping from 80C to 55-60C on idle. |

I personally think that it got to do with the system info scanning while running Vantage. The problem could be lied in the ICH9R driver for the RAID setup. Try to remove the device from Device Manager, remove the driver completely and reboot until windows found an older driver & it works. Have you tried adding -nosysteminfo to the exe properties to see if Vantage will run in the first place? Have you tried completely uninstalling Vantage, removing all registry entries and then trying again with the latest complete version?

QUOTE(juine @ Jul 22 2008, 10:35 PM) If you guys having problem with the heat, I really suggest you get Thermaltake HR03-GT as what I can recommend coz personally I used it and I think it is good for the 4870. Thanks for suggesting. How much u bought it?I'm getting like 57-59 idle. I use artic silver 5 on it. A Zalman fan on top of the cooler. Non air-con room. I tried to run the stock cooler for the first time to check whether it can start.. wow.. I'm shock by the noise it make. I still haven't do the profile thing you people mention. Even the sales guy and a fren also said alot people are changing to stock cooler as it is very hot. Most people are buying Thermaltake Duo Orb for it. |

QUOTE(FoxNope @ Jul 23 2008, 03:52 AM) Just reformat the OS... run the vantage.. not working.. If u hv ICH9R driver installed, remove/uninstall it from Device Manager. I guess there's a hardware conflict during system info scanning while running Vantage. Try to reinstall the ATI Catalyst driver AFTER installing Vantage. Btw, did u experience this error in Vantage alone or the same thing happened with 3DMark06 as well? If both of them also producing error could be ur card is faulty in the worst case. The problem for this time even bad... just giving me a Black Screen... Before that at least having the 1st test loading screen. DO you means try to remove the 3DMark Vantage or the ICH9R? If 3dmark.. yeah i tried. Not really understand the "-nosysteminfo to the properties" means... but i will google it after this. *I downloaded the 3dmark vantage, and already patch the hotfix version... Last question.. So far what is the average 4850 CrossFire user 3dMark06 and 3dMark Vantage score? I got only 14816 on 3dmark06. Thank You. added: I tried the -nosysteminfo. Not working. "CreatePixelShader Invalid" |

QUOTE(Roland San @ Jul 27 2008, 01:35 AM) notice you're using the S1. Nope, according to the creator of GPU-z, temp #2 is not related to VRM. All 3 on-die (silicon) is based inside the GPU itself.are you using heatsinks over the five VRMs? refer here for VRM location. now i'm not sure if temp #2 is for the VRMs, but i do know that they do get very hot, and need not only heatsinks but some airflow over them. Just make sure that the cooler is installed at the correct position. Added on July 27, 2008, 7:31 am QUOTE(shunnned @ Jul 27 2008, 04:49 AM) New sapphire 4850 owner here =) What would be the best way to keep the card cool and not idle at 81*C? :S Any recommended 3rd party cooler? or Is the fan speed mod enough to keep things cool? QUOTE(n0v4m4r1n3 @ Jul 27 2008, 06:07 AM) I got the same problem, got HIS HD4850 recently and 80*C while idle.... It's normal for the stock cooler. Change the fan speed to 40-50% to level-off the temp to ~50C.Can burn an egg with that temperature....... This post has been edited by owikh84: Jul 27 2008, 07:31 AM |

QUOTE(Proclaimer @ Jul 27 2008, 05:59 PM) Fan speed at 40% is good enough for my 4870.. Idle at around 55c and load around 60c-65c.. OC at 780/1080.. Ya better set 40% during idle, 50% while gaming.Fan speed at 50% u can hear the noise d.. But still acceptable.. After that is juz annoying... Loving every bit of it.. |
