Don't be too focussed on 3DMark scores too. Playability in real world apps is far more important IMO, and there's very little diff in PCIE2.0 vs 1.1 at this point.

not yet..maybe next series(5000) pcie 2.0 will show its truly potential...but on 8 times lanes compare to 16 times lanes on crossfire set up it shows a little on 4870 but only few hundred point...
so i guess next year pcie 2.0 will be fully utilize by the graphic card..

yep, nowadays the GC on market still do not fully utilize the bandwith offered by pcie2.0, maybe next gen GC will required more demand on bandwith, when come to CF, x8 might not able to cope with it anymore smile.gif

I want to upgrade HD 4850 for my old Asus a8n-sli mainboard (nforce 4), the problem is my mainboard only supports pci-e 1.0a, has anyone run this card without problem in Asus a8n-sli or nforce 4 chipset mainboard ? I mean real life, not wiki "PCIe 2.0 is backward and forward compatible with PCIe v1.x" or "Just only need a powerful psu" or "Bottleneck by cpu or board" brabrabra, becoz i read something from internet:

QUOTE
PCIe 2.0 is backward and forward compatible with PCIe v1.x. Graphic cards and motherboards designed for v2.0 will be able to work with v1.1 and v1.0, and vice versa. In some rare cases it is possible that a PCI-E 2.0 card will not work correctly on a PCI-E 1.0a slot. This is only limited to certain video cards.

QUOTE
I have an Asus A8N-SLi m/board and am currently running a 7900 on it. It works OK but it is getting old and i have just brought a 8800GT 512M vid. Card. I put the card in and connected it all up but when i turn the PC on i get NO SIGNAL onthe monitor.

QUOTE
Hey guys I'm just gonna go straight to the point. Me and cousin have the same motherboard the a8n-sli vanilla(not deluxe, premium, or se). My cousin tried to install a geforce 8600gt onto his machine but it did not work.

QUOTE
I installed a 4850 into my PC a little under two weeks ago, and I have to say I'm not impressed. I haven't had an ATI card since a 9500, and I was very excited when I saw the numbers being benched on this card so I decided to take the plunge and switch. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get above 30-40 FPS in ANY game.

Here are my system specs.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR
4GB DDR1 OCZ Platinum RAM
650W OCZ GameXStream (SLI Ready)

Vista Ultimate x64

I'm playing all games at 1280x1024 on a 19" Samsung Monitor.

Up until two weeks ago I had a 7900GTX, and obviously got more than 30-40 FPS in games so this should have been an upgrade. When I check GPU-Z, depending on the game, its using anywhere from 0-50% GPU and only in one case, in the WoW character selection screen, it uses 100%. I'm open to any and all suggestions. I personally don't think my cpu is a bottleneck here as its happening in many different games, and if anything WoW should be getting higher than 40FPS as that isn't a taxing game.

I should also state that my AA/AF settings, if set in CCC, do not work in games. I'm guessing this MAY have something to do with this all.

Can anyone share the actual real life experiencewith similar board, or do i need to flash GEN1 video card bios to use the card, thanks.

There's really no point in utilizing the PCI-E bandwidth to the fullest UNLESS you play at max resolution and need more RAM than the GPU can handle and thus need to swap to system RAM. No amount of bandwidth will be as fast as local memory (Video RAM). As each generation of cards come with bigger memory, there's really no need to utilize the PCIE bandwidth fully. It'll only be use for transfering data and instructions which is not a lot. It's the textures that eats memory the most.

Its true theres not much difference.. But got abit la..
Coz my 3dmark06 mark is lower on pcie 1.1 and higher on 2.0 about 500marks higher

As someone said b4, benchmark do not reflect actual games. Benchmark are made to saturate certain aspect of hardware in each tests. I think there was some test done by Tom's hardware or Anandtech where it shows even at PCIe 1.1 4x and 8x, there's no difference.

Warranty period for different brand might vary. If I'm not mistaken Gigabyte provides 3-year warranty while others providing 2 years only.

Wanna ask. Anybody has use the HDMI output of the 4850/4870?

I understand it has built in sound...something like Realtek codec built in? How setup this? There seems very little info on this. I'm thinking of connecting my PC to LCD TV and play some games with it.

btw, there is no official drivers for 4000 series yet...even at AMD website. Sapphire also don't have....

Think i'll try tonight. The Sapphire card really cheapskate one, manual pun tadak.(that piece of card inside the box is not very useful)..i guess that's the price you pay for a top brand like Gigabyte and an economical one like Sapphire.

I've downloaded the manual from Gigabyte's website for their 4850 card. Looks like there's a 'ATI Realtek audio' which can be selected from the control panel. Must give it a go tonite.

Cheers.
