no u can actually.. i tried that before. because the factory will use whatever hdd stock that is available at that time, so we can ask dell to fix a certain brand for us...

Phoenix,
how was it?
your lappy  got :
i. tick tick sound?
ii. whine sound?
iii. over heat palm rest?
iv. loose hinge?
v. ...
OK. Here's the answer to your questions.

1) Tick tock sound = What tick tock sound? My HDD is of Western Digital 250GB 5400 RPM. The only sound I hear is loading sound and also the DVD drive slot booting up at start.
2) Sounds pretty, at least for me.
3) Not very hot as I'm in air con room most of the time.
4) Hinge is good. No gap or what so ever built quality issue.

sorry izzat4487..u mean the music will lag for 5 seconds... don't u think system has to take a little bit time and understand your message to stop the music without pressing "stop" button...

thats normal. if u dont want to lag, just create a shortcut to your desktop or DOCK, and right click and click eject everytime you want to eject your CD, these actually can stop the lag, and your wonderful music will not being distorted by it. biggrin.gif

you cant do that. as for my research, the seagate model that dell offer us, actually is better than the hitachi ( more expensive ), but donno why it performs like that. blink.gif
hehe. I think also depends on luck whether you get a good hdd or not, if dont, just ask for replacement, make sure the replacement is sealed in the plastic.
Cause that time dell technician came my place and replace my T7500. I ask him, isit refurnish one, he said as for his experience, most are refurnish one. vmad.gif then i asked him, how to make sure that my T7500 is not refurnish one. Then, he take a box, cut the tape, and show it to me that my cpu is SEAL properly, thats the prove. wink.gif

Anyone try the 320GB hdd from Western Digital? never use that model before... ohmy.gif

Thats good. drool.gif western digital. then i will go for it then. cause 160GB, really tak cukup makan la. thanks for the info.
about the tick tick sound, it preduce periodically even though you just turn on ur pc and leave it there. that time, i have this problem + the cpu whine, really is a nightmare after spending 6k-- for it. rclxub.gif
To make sure for that, see you hdd loading blue light, if your hdd doesnt have any jik jjik or click click or tick tick sound, the light is off (COMPLETELY off). if got, the loading light will keep blinking simultaneously with the hdd click click noise periodically.

phoenix, does the western D that you're using now free of those problem? hmm.gif

thats what i suffer previously. but now with hitachi, as said before, wonderful.. thumbup.gif

i also have dell xps m1530.

Anyone wanna swap hd with me?

I got 7200rpm hd. 200gb..
Model is ST920042ASG

I wanna swap with 5400rpm 250gb hd..
Anyone??

The 200gb 7200rpm cost RM34 more then the 250gb 5400rpm hd.
I will swap at no cost.

Mine comes with 3 years complete cover and warranty.

So preferably swap with 3 years warranty too. HD is only 2 weeks old..

Why do you want to replace that model? The Seagate HDD model that we are discussing is from the 5400 RPM model. Your 7200 RPM model is fine.

Honest speaking, I been very busy these days that I hardly have time to play with my new lappie. I will get back to you once I settled down. But as of first time using it, seems pretty quiet for me. At least no aircraft sound.
