QUOTE(gyvermac @ Apr 29 2008, 04:06 PM) Phoenix, OK. Here's the answer to your questions.how was it? your lappy got : i. tick tick sound? ii. whine sound? iii. over heat palm rest? iv. loose hinge? v. ... 1) Tick tock sound = What tick tock sound? My HDD is of Western Digital 250GB 5400 RPM. The only sound I hear is loading sound and also the DVD drive slot booting up at start. 2) Sounds pretty, at least for me. 3) Not very hot as I'm in air con room most of the time. 4) Hinge is good. No gap or what so ever built quality issue. |

QUOTE(MrLawKH @ May 1 2008, 12:32 AM) Thats good. Honest speaking, I been very busy these days that I hardly have time to play with my new lappie. I will get back to you once I settled down. But as of first time using it, seems pretty quiet for me. At least no aircraft sound.about the tick tick sound, it preduce periodically even though you just turn on ur pc and leave it there. that time, i have this problem + the cpu whine, really is a nightmare after spending 6k-- for it. To make sure for that, see you hdd loading blue light, if your hdd doesnt have any jik jjik or click click or tick tick sound, the light is off (COMPLETELY off). if got, the loading light will keep blinking simultaneously with the hdd click click noise periodically. phoenix, does the western D that you're using now free of those problem? thats what i suffer previously. but now with hitachi, as said before, wonderful.. |

OK. I finally had time to play around with my new XPS. I do not have any problems with my HDD. It's a Western Digital 250GB 5400RPM HDD. Pretty quiet for me except for when the virus scan is running. Can hear the spindle spinning which is common. Other than that, my laptop is good. No heaty palm rest, hinge is good and no dead pixels. I can't find any fault and am really satisfied with my purchase. Only problem now I have is I can't seem to update my Vista to SP1 via windows update!

Anyone flashed to the new A10 bios yet? I'm using the A09 and although tempted to flash, a bit worried might screw it up. Steps look simple though.
