I have an interesting link to suggest your issue. It is the Seagate STIR technology:

http://forum.hddguru.com/general-forum-f3/...a1807f87a46d1d7

On the other hand, I hope it is not of this sound: http://wojtekgil.com/cl/hdd200sound.mp3

I use 200 GB Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM 7200.2 ST9200420ASG (with free-fall sensor) and I don't suffer this. I hope someone can list down their HDD model number as well.

i also have dell xps m1530.

Anyone wanna swap hd with me?

I got 7200rpm hd. 200gb..
Model is ST920042ASG

I wanna swap with 5400rpm 250gb hd..
Anyone??

The 200gb 7200rpm cost RM34 more then the 250gb 5400rpm hd.
I will swap at no cost.

Mine comes with 3 years complete cover and warranty.

So preferably swap with 3 years warranty too. HD is only 2 weeks old..

Why do you want to replace that model? The Seagate HDD model that we are discussing is from the 5400 RPM model. Your 7200 RPM model is fine.

Not "also". It is the 5400 RPM model which is having a problem here.

There are hidden partitions exist for:
1) your Media Direct installation - it allows you to open any media without booting up your laptop (by pressing Media Direct button key).
2) Dell Recovery option installation - it is the system backup if your system is totaled out or completely hosed.
3) some harddisk models have HDD system software installed

High-end XPS series is only the bulky M1730. Yes, the one most could not afford.

guys, is there a huge difference in terms of clarity & brightness when comparing the normal LCD & WLED display?
*
The real obvious benefit of WLED technology is lesser power consumption.

I'm not sure whether its 7200rpm or not but my C: space is 113GB and D: 106.
The technician said others hv been used for win, drivers etc.
from properties the model is WDC WD2500BEVS-75UST0
*
Your WDC HDD is known as WD 2.5" 5400RPM Scorpio Blue 250 GB SATA HDD ( WD2500BEVS ). WD2500BEVS-75UST0 type is commonly used in Dell laptop models.

Your missing space in your 250GB HDD, apart from your files, has been used by Media Direct software, which is "possibly" stored in the Host Protected Area (HPA) hidden partition.

Detailed information about your HDD (Japanese Linux website)
