Our CC's are internationally accepted. I've never heard of such thing before actually except for the fact that some of the international online merchants refuse to accept credit cards originating from Malaysia unless a photostat copy of that CC + ID verification is produced.
*
Oh, maybe what I heard from others saying that to get CC from international banks is all about "recognition" and not "acceptability"?
So to sum up, let say if I get CC from BSN, I'll be able to use it anywhere in the world?

Merchants have the right to see ur ID. This is practise in some European countries to prevent cases like fraud from happening

You're not the only one who encountered that situation. I experienced it at KFC.

I consolidated all my CC usage to MBB Visa Classic and MBB Petronas Visa Gold.

I tried to use Visa Wave at Carrefour but it was slow. I asked the cashier to switch to the usual swipe method.

I see. That would be no problem as long as they accept my card.

I wouldn't want to apply for another card just because I want to go overseas...

I think and that's why there was a transition into chip based card if I remembered correctly.
*
The transition to chip based was due to the requirement from Mastercard and VISA international. Malaysia implemented this transition earlier than most countries in the Asia Pacific deadline due to Bank Negara's push for it - partly driven by the high fraud cases at that point of time especially due to the high frauds from petrol stations.

There's a possibility that online frauds also attributed to these problems but whatever it is I think the international online merchants community were advised to be careful from CC originating from Malaysia. The additional ID verification could come in the form of your driving license or passport which has a picture of you. I'd has experience online merchants from the US, Japan and on one occasion from Malaysia itself asking from the ID verification + copy of your CC.

Just photocopies of IC and Gold Credit Card with at least 2 years and with minimum credit line of RM15k
Did you get a credit limit upgrade or did they retain the old limit ? (How much is your old limit ?)

Yes, even a CC issued from BSN is recognized internationally.

Emmm .... just look at it this way. If you are a restaurant owner in Malaysia and you have tourists want to pay for the bill via credit card - which one would you feel more comfortable to accept ?

1. Citibank credit card.
2. Their local bank credit card (e.g BNP Paribas or Credit Agricole)

Under normal circumstances, you can perform balance transfer so long your bank allows you to do so and you have enough credit limit to sustain the transferred amount. However different banks have different promos and T&C on balance transfer - maybe you want to call your bank just to make sure what are the policies.

BTW - if you are restructuring your CC debts, better you consolidate multiple card accounts into just 1 one time off. At least you get everything done and over with.

Remember to select the Payment Type as Credit Card.

Key in your 16-digit CC number in the Account Number field.

I see. Thanks for your reply notworthy.gif

Yes I do understand that I (as a merchant) will be more comfortable if my customers are using CCs from international recognized banks.
But if I'm their customer, I wouldn't want to pay extra (eg. CC annual fees, hassles...) just to make those merchants feel comfy tongue.gif
Anyway who doesn't want money? Just my thoughts...

The banks make money out of the CC transactions 2 ways
1. (You) as their customer in the form of annual fees & interest from outstanding balance (if any)
2. (Merchant) as a cut from the transactions incurred. Range from 1.5-2.5% (Can be lower but not zero as the banks still need to pay a certain percentage to Mastercard/VISA International). I think there's a possibility overseas banks charges the merchant more as compared to Malaysia - I remembered buying online from Japan and they charge me something like 3.5% for using my credit card)

I'm not sure whether the owner of the brand would have to pay the banks to launch the co-branded cards (e.g Citibank AirAsia, Petronas CIMB/Maybank,etc) but I think maybe it's the case also. (FYI, I don't work for the cc industry ... these are just my observations)

Using the example above - your bank pays you your money excluding the fees and then pays the foreign bank excluding the fees as well. I think everyone wins and make money just that it's a competitive market out there for credit cards (in Malaysia) and most banks chooses not to make money from the annual fees anymore.

so far, my transaction of paying Pound to my UK body using CC dun have any charges on the transactions fee.
i thinks it's depend on the merchant. some do not wan to pay the fee, then they pass it to customer to pay the fee.
