Do they gives points or stuffs?
*
CIMB Bank Credit card points only valid for 1 year and they'll expire at the end of every year. If you wish to collect points then go for expiry with no points expiration or longer points expiry.

Citibank is one of them with no points expiry but I can't remember what other banks policy are with regards to points expiration.

I also got consider CIMB free-for-life. Is it also free-for-life for Platinum? If yes, then worth getting as spare card (no need to worry about collecting points etc)
*
CIMB Platinum card is not free for life if I'm not mistaken.

Anyone here is aware which bank charges additional administrative fees if you use it overseas ? I know that EON bank charges 2% extra and MBF charges 1% extra ... anyone else?

anyone know which bank offering the lowest exchange rate in card when we purchase item in oversea?visa or mastercard betteR?
*
As far as I know, exchange rate for the cards is determined by VISA/Mastercard International and then the banks add a little for administrative fees. (Some openly say they impose but most of them do not say it upfront) I suggest you hunt for online coupons to get a better deal

i am of the opinion that ocbc malaysia has totally 'cheapened' the prestige of platinum by offering this card. the income requirement isnt even half of what other banks demand to be platinum cardholder. what a shame.
*
I totally agree on this. Wouldn't want to cheapened my image if I do get this card.

CIMB DA will soon implement a new online system which you could use their credit cards without needing the Virtual Account. If I'm not mistaken this means they will implement Mastercard Secure and VISA 3D. (A strong guess)

I got this in my mailer 2 months ago - those wanting to do online transactions if you can delay applying for the Virtual Card (Which cost money), just need to wait a while longer.

For security purpose. To isolate between online and non-online purchases. Generally, Virtual Mastercard is meant to have a lower credit limit and for the use of online transactions.
*
Yes ... that's correct. Plus, CIMB DA (Enrich also if I remember it correctly) is the only card in the market that you can't use to perform any transactions online unless you have a virtual card. Exception to the Enrich card which enables you to buy tickets from MAS website.

If you ask me, it's a bit of a letdown as all other cards in the market allows you to perform online transactions.

Just now tried to use CIMB DA Paypass but failed. Not sure if my card hasn't activated (Paypass feature) or the terminal got problem. Tried twice.
*
Paypass feature no need to activate, it comes hand-in-hand with the card active status. Must be the terminal

I agree on the hassle to have online banking for your DA credit cards. I had this problem as well and the PIN take ages to arrive.

Then why did I receive only 1-years' validity last year (previously, card validity was 2 years)?

And now, my card will be expiring end of January and I have yet to receive the renewal card. Previously, the renewal card arrived 1 month before expiry.
*
Which bank are you talking about here ?

IMHO, in a worst case scenario - you can just cancel off the card if you don't want to pay the annual fees and apply for another bank. These days the credit card market is very competitive, especially in the Klang Valley. I don't think you'll have problems finding another bank to go to if you have been a good paymaster and no bad debts anywhere.

QUOTE(satur9 @ Jan 12 2008, 04:00 PM)
Regarding card validity, I think it does mean something. 3 or 4 years...bank trusts you. 2 years...usually new card users on probation. 1 year...bank doesn't want your business. Am I wrong about this?

More importantly, why would a bank delay delivery of a renewal card?
Yes, but if Standard Chartered is going to cancel my card for god knows what reason, then what's to stop another bank from doing the same? That's why I asked the question. If my card usage is not what banks like, then it's no point bank hopping.
*
I had Standard Chartered card before. I can safely say they issue card for 1 year and then extend further. Well banks after all are run by people, there's a chance that they overlooked your account and thus the card is delayed. Plus, its the beginning of the year - lots of holidays. Generally the longer you are with a bank, the better off you are but I disagree on this. I had 1 card which I held for so many years (it's not a local bank) - no upgrades offered by the bank (I had to apply for a credit limit increase, twice) at all ever. I don't default on payments except maybe late a few days + spends generously on the card every year.

I think you worry too much for nothing. Same advise, if you think the bank is wasting your time - just apply to another bank simple. Unless of course you have bad credit history (which only you can answer this, no offense) then no one can help you.

Don't do that la .... pity the cashier. I'll just offer to give another card.

Shouldn't be. They'll be more than happy to charge you with the annual fees if you forgot to cancel the cards and the free annual fee period is up.

i just received my standard chartered credit card...
in the statement that came along with the card, it has stated that i need to sign and activate the card immediately..but may i ask how? am i required to call the bank for activation or just swipe it at any outlet for activation(just as citibank)
*
Sign the card at the back and call the bank to activate the card. It's that simple, really. I'll be worried if the card is pre-activated

QUOTE(kindaichi @ Jan 13 2008, 04:45 AM)
anyone got standard chartered bank character card? the batman one? if apply the card, need to pay joining fee? and does it come with any free waiver? thanks....
*
Look for roadshows promos and it should be free. (In fact, current SCB promos will give you 3 years free) If they charge you joining fee, do you still wanna apply ? Better you look for other banks which does not charge you.

QUOTE(fruitie @ Jan 13 2008, 05:27 AM)
Hello all, I am new to here. Currently having two VISA cards from Public Bank and Citibank respectively, to be specific both are supplementary cards provided by my sister. As I am still a student and not working, can't apply one for myself. smile.gif
She told me that she wanted to cut off the Public Bank CC and replace me another one with higher credit limit, as my credit limit for PB is only RM 3k, sometimes not enough to pay for one semester tuition fees. sad.gif
Citibank has slightly a higher credit limit but she wants to get me 2 cards for emergency purpose and for this new card, I plan to get MasterCard instead. Any bank that can recommend to me? With lots of benefits and free gifts? Typical Malaysian I am.

Thanks in advance, so that I can let my sister knows and she can apply for me. biggrin.gif
*
What benefits are you looking for ? blink.gif I suggest you forgo the free gifts part and stick to the main objective which is to get a good card for yourself. If a bank (Won't disclose which bank) give you generous sign-up gifts (maybe up to RM500) and an additional RM50 voucher after approval but customer service so-so only + charges extra fees for overseas spending - would you still want to apply? Even a higher credit limit objective is a better pursuit than free gift - be more realistic my friend. whistling.gif

Foreign banks would be better as compared to local banks.

Actually CIMB DA is a good card but just that they're not as efficient as others. vin_ann has some bad stories on it, just ignore him. biggrin.gif

I like this card when they were still with Southern Bank. When CIMB bought over them, I was skeptical about their ability (still am) coz CIMB cards back then were a nobody. Sometimes when I call their CS, it just doesn't seem the same anymore.

There goes my only reason to use DA cards. It's the Flexi-Pay plan that makes the card interesting. Would have to reconsider my long-term position with them ... sigh cry.gif

I wonder why are they terminating the facility ?

Any existing CIMB or CIMB DA card holders receive this circulation?

Are there stated in TnC they can terminate this service anytime without notice?

All banks (I believe) T&C states that they can make changes to any parts of their conditions without prior notice.
