The NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8800 GT has the perfect combination of power, performance, and price. It offers 112 stream processors, and a 256-bit frame buffer for jealousy-inducing DirectX 10 gameplay at ultra fast frame rates.

Packed with more features for the price
With 112 stream processors and a 256-bit framebuffer interface running at 900MHz, GeForce 8800 GT delivers a level of price/performance that gamers demand.

Support for next generation PC platforms
Compatible with the new PCI Express 2.0 bus architecture, offering a future-proofing bridge to tomorrow's most bandwidth-hungry games and 3D applications.

Here we have our official overclocking discussions ranging from minor heat issue to major hard mods. It's all here, have your say and good luck in venturing into high clocks for either gaming or 3DMarks....

Drivers:Utility:3DMarks:BIOS: Core/Shader/MemoryVoltage Mods:
    Addendum:
    QUOTE
    - stock vGPU voltages for this card are 1.05v (2D idle) and 1.10v (3D load)
    - stock vMEM voltage for Qimonda GDDR3 (HYB18H512321BF-10) is 1.80v ±5%
    - 1kΩ (or higher) variable resistor can be used for the vGPU mod in order to maintain the minimum voltage close to stock. A 500Ω VR will force the vGPU slightly higher than stock vGPU even when the VR is tuned for the lowest vGPU = maximum resistance.
    - vGPU pencil mod turned out to be virtually impossible
    - usage of a multimeter is strongly recommended

Purple dot denotes vGPU measuring points, Blue dot denotes Ground...

Hello all... going to receive my Leadtek 8800GT soon biggrin.gif biggrin.gif ... just wanna ask...

I'm a newbie at overclocking graphic cards, so what do u fellas use to overclock ur 8800GT? Which software is used? Or flash BIOS better? Cos I heard some ppl say the latest 169.04 drivers don't allow RivaTuner to overclock...

Asus dont do overclocking much on their cards
but they were king on the 8600gts...

this cards are 700/1750/2000 also...

Way nicer meh? I tot they say DX10.1 will just be an extension to DX10? Minor improvements over existing architecture + a few new features

I've been playing with my XFX for a few days now..
still trying to get good clocks..

anyway, i have a few questions though...
i've tried overclocking to 700/2000 on stock fan running at 100% with open case and load temp at 63C (i left my air cond on full blast with full blast fan...hehe) and started artifacting at 1 hour.

Question is, does artifacting mean i've screwed my card? (I'm worried about screwing my card as it's new). I bumped it down to stock and ran atitool and it was artifact free for 6 hours.

how do i know my card is screwed?

another question is, where in heck can i get the HR-03 GT? is it even out yet?

i just put the 8800gt with my x38 dq6 for the first time.. i cant really test this card coz i think the board is quite sucky.. i cant oc at all.. BSOD everywhere.. sad.gif

well honestly i think it all depends on luck.. coz all using reference board with i'm suppose non hand pick core..

but the difference might be in the bios itself, some using higher clock with higher voltage, or some might opt to use tighter timing to give better results..

dats why last time my forsa 8800gtx can oc very high like other top brand card with extra rm150 price biggrin.gif

*
That's bull.. 169.04 has broken ATiTool but RivaTuner still works smile.gif

The G8x/G9x core is very resilient.. it goes up to 115c (you can check with Nibitor) so it shouldn't be dying at 63c. Artifacting doesn't mean the card is gone. If it's gone, it won't boot. Or all the colors will be wrong. Even so it may just be a case of BIOS corruption, so reflashing the BIOS might save it.

Actually 800 at 4-4-4-12 is faster than 900 at 5-5-5-15. You only have a 375MHz bus, why would you need 900 MHz RAM ? smile.gif

From http://www.thetechrepository.com/showthread.php?t=195 :

Latency at 900 Mhz CAS 5 = (5*2000)/900 = 11.11 ns

Latency at 800 MHz CAS 4 = (4*2000)/800 = 10 ns

So if you want to optimize the 375 MHz bus you should run the RAM at 800 MHz 4-4-4-12.

By the way, you guys better ease off on the mem overclock. It'll run but there's a possibility of sudden deaths.

Did some investigation and apparently this is a qimonda issue.

The HR-03 testing outcome was a disappointment according to this review (tested on R600 tho')

sudden death, that is scary sweat.gif if the temp is still within acceptable range after oc, will this problem occur?

btw, aqua-computer releases water-cooler hsf designated for 8800gt (source)

The thing's like this... I bought a stock o/c'ed MSI and its artifact free etc at the 660/1900 but after some multi hour session of bioshock, it will occasionally just craps out.. freeze there and then.

Anyhow, I initially thought it was the cooling.... so whack fans kau kau. Only doing less than 50C load and each ram chip temps are around 42-45C only.

To make the long story short..I checked with some friends in Nvidia and they said that its a mem issue... that's why so many boards on the market are DOA'ed and there's that sudden red artifact thingy.

Anyway..I reduced my mem to 1800 now. Core and shader can of course whack lar tongue.gif

Qimonda, although it's 1ns, there're numerous report even review sites, that it can't substain 2000Mhz for daily usage, until it comes to irrepairable situation. So better clock down the memory speed. As for core, there's no problem running 7XX provided good cooling keeping the core cool.

ati also has better driver for vista compare to nvidia..

the problem is 8800gt performance has damn good performance at such price makes the 2900xt becomes unwanted card..

My card doesn't seems that good. Manage to get it stable @ 700/1728/1950. Can't go higher for core and shader clocks, will result in having artifact and freezing. sad.gif

Nice mod there. Still thinking whether to mod mine or not. I flashed mine with 1.1v 3D, at least able to do 730 core stable.

both cards has been flashed
to a better bios than the ssc.. the xfx ADE XXX...
y better the ADE XXX bios doesnt suffer the problem of depreciating performance when u keep overclocking even though its artiact free...
the SSC has that bug... the ADE XXX bios are newer.

test it.. it was debated quite heavily in XS..

vmodded and now on Danger Den Maze 5

i am running at vgpu of 1.3v idle 1.32v load
flashed to 810/1944/2000... thanks to a crucial techie guy for doing this for me...
dont have nimble fingers for soldering...kekeke.. last tme burned a galaxy 8800gtx once..

no screenies until i sort out the second card problem

the problem is
on the sli ...

its different from the previous sli of the 8800 series

this is the difference

1. 2nd card cannot be overclocked independently
2. on SLI mode u cannot set the fan speed for the 2nd card
3. the 2nd card always run at 400core 800 shader 900mem

hmmmm

interesting eh...

and the way the overclocks and sli is working
did nvidia did a copycat of the crossfire... those who has crossfired before will know what i mean by this.

the 3870 now running at 900/2600..
hopefully when i get the MCW60 WC setup that i am doing for the cards
can push higher..
would like do a comparison for both...at OC
interesting.. cause this clocks above already beat the stock 8800gt

cant sli...and getting restarts...

sishh got ppl i know who vmod till 1.4v!!!!!

the xfx bios is on XS forum..
its been there for a week

hmm got problem now wei
crossfire and sli both got problem
single card hd3870 can run 900/2600
crossfire fail.
sli also fail now

fed up already ..
wasted whole day

hmm the G92 sli is totally different than the G80 sli

crossfire i am new to the R6xx.. so no idea ..anybody can help??
y is it if test each card at 900/2600 no probs
but if i crossfire them only can do 864/2500

the sli now.. totally screwed up...
if sli..on 3dmark06 the comp will restart...
single card test for both works for 3dmark

???
F***

for the HD3870

If you want to overclock the core, yes, 3rd party cooler is a must. The temp will only goes up if you increase your core.

the red pcb that msi is using r indeed a better pcb with more layer thus eliminating (decrease) vdrop... (well, ther's no way anyone can eliminate vdroooop anyway)... same goes to galaxy (blue pcb) which is famous for using more layer pcd for their gfx...

wont 2000mhz mem made it crashes? i using this card playing crysis at 1680*1050 suffering random crashes... when downclocked it to stock 1800mhz, no problem liao... so if ur ram chip is using qimonda's chip... my advice is downclock it to 1800mhz... else might be problematic late on....

Today I just grabbed a brand new and rare (at least for now) 8800GT from Lowyat Plaza @ATE. I sent to coolice for testing because I dont have the proper hardware to test. See what he just sent to me. Hehe...

No VMod and using stock cooler only. Will try to push more under watercooling when I get the card back from him later.

All result is done by coolice.

I would recommend anyone limited on budget to save up and buy a decent one. Don't buy cheap heatsink+fan because it's not worth it. When you lift the stock cooler, you voided the warranty. Your resell price has been extremely lowered. Plus, there's no guarantee that it'll work on your future upgrades.

So, if you want a cooler, of which, you can use on current and future cards, I would suggest getting a decent one recommended in the Overclocker forum. It may have voided the warranty but the high OC-ability would justify the void.

make sure ur running at highest possible refresh rate, low refresh rate will cause graphic tearing coz ur frame rate has exceeded the monitor capability.

How and where to change the refresh rate? Sorry I do not have much PC knowledge let alone graphic card tweakings. Whats the 600MHZ core and 1800mhz clock,1500MHZ shader clock you mentioned and what does it mean?
Mine is MSI smile.gif

Hmm my monitor is running on 60Hz but when I change to 75Hz I get out of range....does it mean my monitor cant support 75hz refresh rate? sad.gif

How and where to change the refresh rate? Sorry I do not have much PC knowledge let alone graphic card tweakings. Whats the 600MHZ core and 1800mhz clock,1500MHZ shader clock you mentioned and what does it mean?
Mine is MSI  smile.gif

Hmm my monitor is running on 60Hz but when I change to 75Hz I get out of range....does it mean my monitor cant support 75hz refresh rate?  sad.gif
*
I also facing the same problem, but only in Crysis at 1280X1024@75hz. But I found a way to overcome this problem, I tone down the resolution to 1280x960 and no problem to get into Crysis, then I just change the resolution to 1280x1024 in the game, somehow this "out of range" problem won't happen, but make sure before u want to quit game u have to switch the resolution to other, that's kinda irratating.

Hi Guys.. just to share my experience here..
I used to have a Asus 8800GT Top. I is a nice card however i found a few things that i dont like. Just personal opinion... sharing ma...
- Noisy fan (more noisy than my EVGA 8800GTS and my Zotac 8800GT amp)
- Very hot. (in this case very scare to OC unless change other cooler)

Performance wise is quite good.. I think the top series can still push further with better cooler..

by the way once silly question here..

I am using a Zotec 8800GT amp. Not OC at the moment.
I am using a AMd 5200+ 2.6G, no OC also...
2G kingston value ram 667MHz.

I manage to hit 3Dmark06 (default test) max 10184 score... is it normal?

Another question is does it make sence to flash the bios for my Zotec to others like the XFX 8800GT XXX version?

Regards

You can flash ur card bios to other versions... Don't worry about the temperature... It can stand temps up to 120C before dying.... And that score for ur computer specs is quite normal...

I played crysis at 1280 res and mid+high details (mix) average about 30+ to 40 frame rate...

actually what is the main reason people change the bios for the card?
stability? performance? OCability?
does it affect the warranty?

What do you mean by soft vmod? By flashing bios that increase the voltage?

If you havent oc before, dont go for vmod first else there is high chances you will burn your card. haha

For 8800GT,idle 54'c and max load roughly 79-81'c, roughly bcoz so far dont have software that can observe the temp, only Smartdoctor from asus itself can on this card so after finish bench then fast fast open smartdoctor to see it... yes it is stock cooler.... Asus Glaciator Fan...

CPU is 40'c idle and 58'c load with stock cooler too

yes riva tuner work for others but not this new Asus 8800GT top edition (with glaciator fan). Asus claimed they have a special thermal sensor and now only the software provided by asus "smartdoctor" only can read the temp. Riva Tuner and others cant read it..... LOL riva tuner show 0'c... how happy if i can get that seriously.. tongue.gif.

So the only way to see the temp is with "smartdoctor" from asus

its good urs can adjust fan. mine is stock speed, cant control yet. Even by Asus "smartdoctor" isnt it stupid?

Even the slider can be adjust, but the "Smart Cooling" cant be selected. Wonder when they will come out with 1 with supported it. Riva Tuner fan tuning not available.

its will be difference score cause we both using diff spec. the diff is:
C2Q Q6600
MSI P35 Neo2FR
Asus 8800GT Glaciator fan

HOHO getting my Q6600 this week end..and more testing will be carry out with Q6600.....

I will try to do some bench if i got the time. cause need to fix up the system + format + install windows + update + install software ... then only can run benchies... tongue.gif wonder how long will all that takes.

I will be sad if his score is near mine.. >_<"

Added on January 29, 2008, 4:58 pmThis is the bench with my new Q6600 OCed to 3.0ghz and GC OCed to 740/1838/2136

How is it? It seems the review is true about E6750 is slightly better compared to Q6600... coz my Q6600 SM2.0 and SM3.0 score lose to my E6750 score even at same GC clock speed.

u are using pentium 4? and ddr400 with 8800GT??? u are just wasting the 8800GT performance. ur p4 and ram and maybe ur IDE HDD too will drag down ur 8800GT performance... dont use ur money to get cooler.... use ur money to upgrade 1st....

advised to change to better 1... c2s E4xxx, SATA2, and ddr677 at least.

i had the 8800GT OCed and it passed 3dmark06 no problem. yeah, bench it with FEAR and there it goes. hang.

tell you la, 3dmark06 doesn't say anything about your stability.

i had the 8800GT OCed and it passed 3dmark06 no problem. yeah, bench it with FEAR and there it goes. hang.

thats true... tongue.gif... it just bench performance only... and minorly scan for artifacts

too bad the software dont allow vram adjustment.. btw tho this card uses samsung gddr3 chips, i cannot oc my mem to 1000mhz, it'll fail atitool artifact scanning in minutes..

i oc the core and shader independently..
firstly i will find the max stable clockspeed for my core, shader, and memory using atitool artifact scanning for about an hour..
and after that i oc my core, shader and memory according to my highest clockspeed at the sametime and again run the artifact scanning for about 6 to hours, that's how i got my 756/1890/1944 oc setting..

set ur fan speed to 100% via rivatuner..
or improve ur cable management..
or improve ur casing airflow..
that should do the trick flex.gif

I'm using Zotac AMP Edition stock at 700/1700/2000.

Now I overclock it at 760/1900/2200 but in rivatuner hardware monitoring shows 756/1890/2202.

Idle 58c
Load 67c

Using stock bios.

So any sifu here got higher than this or this is the limit already?

rivatuner shows ur shader clockspeed is 1890 because it is 1890mhz..
it's because SP clockspeed increase in 54mhz step.. and rite now u're in 1890mhz.. so the next step is 1890+54 or previous step is 1890-54..
that's how to correctly oc a 8 series card.. flex.gif
about the core im not too sure.. because when i oc my previous 8800gts card, the core will increase in 27mhz step, tho it didnt work that way when i oc my 8800gt core clockspeed...
btw ur memory is @ 2.2ghz which is amazing, my card eventho it uses samsung gddr3 chips, still cannot be oced to 2000mhz memory.. sweat.gif

maybe zotac set vcore for their amp 8800gt higher than normal kot..
maybe around 1.2v..
stock 1.1vcore 8800gt gpu SP's cannot be oced past 1.8ghz..
it'll fail atitool artifact scanning in less than 10 minutes <- my own experience hehe biggrin.gif

Thought I'd share my first volt mod experience with you guys.

Seeing all the great volt moded 8800 GT OC results on xtremesystems forum, I finally decided to jump into the hard volt mod train. I went to Jalan Ara Saturday, bought an hakko solder iron, DMM, all the hardware needed for the Vmod. I also went to modernopc to buy HR 03-GT to replace the stock cooler.

Everything wasn't smooth but at the end I finally managed to get it working.

Here is my max AT stable OC before the volt mod: 712/1728 @ 1.1V load temp 78*C
user posted image

Here is my current max AT stable OC after the volt mod and the installation of the HR 03-GT 783/1890 @ 1.2V load temp 51*C

Picture of the moded card:
(not very pretty but it does the job tongue.gif)

Although it's not AT stable, I can run 10 loops Crysis GPU benchmark and 2 loops 3dmark06 at 799/1998/975 @ 1.2V idle (still testing) rclxms.gif

After testing max stable OC at 1.2V idle, I'll go up to 1.3V idle. So far my best 3dmark06 run is 13025. Not bad for a dual core brows.gif

The HR-03 GT is pricey, but it is an awesome cooler. I've never reached higher than 54*C at 799/1998 and it was without A/C, after 1 hour of GPU testing almost non stop thumbup.gif

Turns out pretty good for a 1st volt mod and considering that I had never soldered anything before. biggrin.gif

nice work dude.. rclxms.gif however ur finding does confirm my suspicion that the max clockspeed for shader @ 1.2v is 1890mhz,
if we want to oc the sp more than 1.9ghz then 1.3v vcore is needed tongue.gif

I've actually pass 3dmark06 at 799/1998 @ 1.2V but I saw afterwards that I left the memory at 950MHz so my score was slightly lower than this one. doh.gif

I'll see tonight if I can continue to increase the clock at the same voltage but i think I'm reaching already the max for 1.2V wink.gif

I've tried several bioses from different brands before the volt mod and all gave me the same results. Now I'm using my stock bios modified with 1.1V setting and fan increasing with the core temp ... which is now useless since I have done the vmod and change the stock heatsink smile.gif

It is not not AT stable at this speed, but I did could run 10 loops of Crysis GPU benchmark followed by 2 loops of 3dmark06 without crashing/artefacting.

AT is fully stable (20 min) only at 783/1890.

I personally don't really care to be AT stable as long as I am stable in games. So my next step will be to game (mainly Crysis as it stresses the card like nothing else rolleyes.gif ) and if I can play 1-2 hours without a crash, I call it a day. Later I will also try other games. I think I will probably have to back up a bit from 799/1998 since I generally found that Crysis was stable more or less at the same speed as AT, but I don't really base my OC on AT.

My approach for the CPU is different, There I want to be 100% stable orthos, OCCT, ... wink.gif

My approach for the CPU is different, There I want to be 100% stable orthos, OCCT, ... wink.gif
*
hmm.gif hurm i seem to be trusting the atitool more than crysis..
but in the end it's up to the personal preferences..
btw, bro when will u try 1.3v??
wanna see la how high the sp can go..
because right now, gigabyte utility only support vcore overvoltage up to 1.2v only sweat.gif

My idea was to do stability testing at 1.2, 1.25 then 1.3V (after the OCP will probably kicks in and I'm not sure I want to go higher anyways). It is to know how the card speeds scales with the voltage and if I don't see many benefit from going higher than 1.25V, I'll probably stay at this value for 24/7 use.

Now I'm also in a hurry to know how far it will go with 1.3V. tongue.gif
So maybe I'll skip 1.25V for the moment and I'll try 1.3V tonight and I'll post results here wink.gif

Probably because of your CPU being clock higher than mine. I want to try later to OC my CPU higher for bench and see what kind of increase in score i can get.

but my CPU is on 3k and urs 2.8k... i think wont affect SM2.0 as much as 400+ and SM3.0 for 600+.... quite big diff...

i notice that my clock is 740/1838/2136... which the 2136 more than urs alot.. is that the reason....

Oh yeah, good find ... wink.gif

I was starting to wonder how come my score was so low compared to him.

I just tried a run with my CPU at 3.33GHz and GPU at 842/2106/993 to see if it was making a big difference but was still under his score doh.gif

Attached Image

@ben_panced: I tried 1.3V and seems to be AT stable around 828/1998 ... +.1V doesn't make a huge difference. But I will continue my own stability testing and see how far I can go in game ...

hmm.gif eh ape pulak bro + .1v does give a good boost from 1890mhz SPs to 1998 mhz AT stable is nice.. an improvement of 108mhz..
so it seems i have to hard mod the card to pass the 1.9ghz SP mark brows.gif

Maybe because is using a 19'' wide ? I never tried 3dmark 06 with a wide but if the screen doesn't support 1280*1024 maybe he can't use it.

1440x900 almost equivalent to 1280x1024 in term of numbers of pixels. As you can see your SM2.0/3.0 scores lower than mine now wink.gif

if u have 2 cards in sli can lah..
1 card will render the graphics while the other will handle physics...
but for me cpu physics is enough, just take a look at havok physics engine powered games such as oblivion, hl2..

Ageia PhysX which is doing the technology is bought over by NVIDIA already i think .. so whatever PhysX thats coming out still comes from Ageia but maybe NVIDIA might market it under their own umbrella laa .. that is to be seen over the next year

as for new NVIDIA cards that comes out with PhysX .. for sure will be super duper expensive .. coz the PhysX PCI card alone will cost u around rm1.2k at this moment .. hehehehe ... i know coz i got my hands on one of those PhysX card to test test .. tongue.gif
but for games without the PhysX then it doesnt make any difference laa .. u can always go to the Ageia website to see the difference in gfx

as for whatever rumours that 9800gt will come around the rm1k or jsut over rm1k mark .. prepared to be surprised .. i was told by reliable source that it will cost around rm2.1k when it hits our shores .. prolly within the next 2-3 months .. tongue.gif

My memory doesn't overclock very well. For the moment I leave it at 950MHz (1800MHz) in order to make sure that it won't give me instability. Once I found the max on the core and the shaders, I'll OC the memory.

But from the first result I have, it seems the memory is unstable over 993MHz (1986MHz). It is slightly under the result I had with the stock cooler (1000+MHz). It might be due to the 2 memory chips under the HR-03 GT heatpipes. The heatsink provided for them are tiny because the heatpipes are just on top of them, so maybe the cooling capacity is slightly worse than with the stock cooler. It doesn't really matter since the performance increase when OCing the memory by few MHz is barely noticeable.

800 MHz is definitely possible, the hr-03 GT can handle the heat easily. From my first testings, I think I should be able to do around 840MHz core and 2100 MHz shaders at 1.3V and it should be fully stable in games. smile.gif

temp is good too.... for those who have the glaciator version... while the reference fan v2 will still suffer from high temp... idle 48'c and load 64'c at 740/1838/2136 here... still got rooms to go furthur but lazy to do so already..

and got lots more in there to read about for 8800gt g92 .. tongue.gif

maybe spending more time USING it rather than just OC it for benchmark points could help .. hehehehe

Hi guys I'm new here biggrin.gif
My Asus 8800GT can only OC to 650/950, which is kinda sucks I think seeing that most people can get to 700/1000. Any higher than that I will get artifacts in ATI Tools test. sad.gif

Hmm... can go higher la... my MSI 8800gt using stock cooler can support up to 720/1000... but not running that high cuz full load temperature for 5minutes already 86C... LOL...

I did try 700/1000 with a few 3dmark runs without problem. But I'm getting errors at those speeds in ATI Tool artifact test. Is the ATI tool test trustable?

urs very hot ah? i personally feel not worth it.... somtimes think back the items i brought... izzit really a need ah?? sometimes regret about it as i think back the money...sayangnya cry.gif ..

anyway if u say u wanna extremely oc it to get advantage of it... yes if u dont need to buy 3rd party cooler.... but if u bought it... then its not an advantage of OC anymore.. its more like u pay for the performance = buying an even better graphic card directly...

anyway just my personal opinion.. laugh.gif

I just got myself the Galaxy 8800GT 512MB and manage to achieve around 14,700 3dmark06 755/1887/1030 on E8200@4Ghz. Btw, I removed the stock cooler and mod it with an old Thermaltake Typhoon + YS Tech fan, Thermaltake RAM sicks and did the vMem mod.

I need to test further and see what's the best OC I can get out of this biggrin.gif

vincentlaw, I'll re-run the test and post online so you guys can see it.

ben_panced, the max. I can get from that card is 1.25V (measured with multi-meter). I still need a vGPU mod to go higher than that. Galaxy uses Samsung and I had memory volts at 2.15V. I still need to test how far I can go biggrin.gif

Default vGPU should be around 1.1V but this card gives 1.25V BUT it's still not enough biggrin.gif I'm still waiting for some chaps over at Xtreme to come up with a vGPU mod. Anyway, here are some pictures as promised:

My idle is around 42-44C in an air-cond room and highest is around 55-57C with 3dmark06/ATI Tool. I'm not sure if the score or temps are good as I've been totally out of the graphics card scene for a while. The last time I used 3dmark was the 2001 version laugh.gif Anyway, I can't seem to post my results online after my 3dmark06 run? The site is too slow.

It is very very noisy, max speed is around 7,200rpm and a leftover from my overclocking days (originally fitted to a Thermaltake Volcano II) biggrin.gif I don't have a good fan for now so I mounted this instead and had it right onto my Zalman fan controller.

The airflow is straight down and it produces very strong air - just like those Vizo Windstorm. Nevertheless, most of the time it's running around 20%-25% only.

It's connected to the fan controller and running 20-25% would give you only a tiny buzzing sound smile.gif It's my 12cm fan which is making louder noise than this little one. I'm playing C&C with that 3dmark settings and GPU temp is around 48-49C

the buzzing some for long term is bad for ur ears..... dont la... so cool and so noisy.. its a nono for me.. i'll seek out the balance or at least unoticeable noise from ˝meter away.. anyway that is a good temp.. but C&C and 3dmark just dont stress full load on ur GC... ATItool still the best for GC load stressing...

yup i agree, the balance between noise and performance is important.. and atitool seems to be the best for gc load stressing..
btw bro clawhammer.. how do u fit the cpu hsf on ur 88gt?? is it by using cable ties?? or did u mod the hsf itself?? hmm.gif

vincentlaw, I've told you it's connected to a fan controller smile.gif Maybe you want to try using one to know how it functions and btw, there's no silent yet good performance fan. There's normally a trade off.

ben_panced, ATI Tool is below 60C load as I'm in an aircond room. I mod it and the HSF is mounted via screws with proper washers to prevent the PCB from getting damaged.

hurm very innovative bro.. nod.gif
but i think that artic cooling s1 is better than the cpu hsf that ure using.. hmm.gif
because i saw the ati tool artifact scanning load temp was only 51c on my frens 8800gt with modded bios with vcore @ 1.22v and shaders at 1838mhz..
btw, he used vizo dual propeller fan to cool the s1 heatsink

Yes, I do know after market cooler could be better especially Thermalright ones but I'm modding the HSF out of my interest and most of all, it's FREE in a way as I don't have to buy something new. Nevertheless, it's not meant to encourage people to do what I'm doing smile.gif I'm just purely sharing what I've done.

OC4/3, What is orb? I just overclocked the core/shader/memory and everything else is left at default (including DirectX/OpenGL settings) smile.gif

overclockalbert, thanks but I believe if the cooler has a larger surface then it would be better. I notice the different designs between CPU coolers VS GPU coolers biggrin.gif I'll stick with this for a while and see what else I can do.
