The thing's like this... I bought a stock o/c'ed MSI and its artifact free etc at the 660/1900 but after some multi hour session of bioshock, it will occasionally just craps out.. freeze there and then.

Anyhow, I initially thought it was the cooling.... so whack fans kau kau. Only doing less than 50C load and each ram chip temps are around 42-45C only.

To make the long story short..I checked with some friends in Nvidia and they said that its a mem issue... that's why so many boards on the market are DOA'ed and there's that sudden red artifact thingy.

Anyway..I reduced my mem to 1800 now. Core and shader can of course whack lar tongue.gif

Qimonda, although it's 1ns, there're numerous report even review sites, that it can't substain 2000Mhz for daily usage, until it comes to irrepairable situation. So better clock down the memory speed. As for core, there's no problem running 7XX provided good cooling keeping the core cool.

Does it affect the rams on the 8800GTS? Interested to know as I'm using the GTS......

I just joined the 8800GT club!!!! rclxms.gif ASUS 8800GT 512mb.....

First thing I did was..... no, not overclock..... downclock!!! Now at core/mem : 300/450mhz.... laugh.gif

Too bad we don't have good databases...... what's the average stable overclock for this card (core/shader/mem)? hmm.gif

Gonna try overclocking later....

Downclock blink.gif , LOL, Ur gc same with mine... Your heatsink is the big fan one or normal one? Why dont try overclocking brows.gif .. may be can share with me later  tongue.gif
*
Yeaappp! The first thing that I do with a new GC is to downclock to the lowest stable speed. That's for running 24/7.

When I'm gaming, I will set it to stock clock or overclock it higher, but not until the max stable OC.

Mine is a normal single-slot cooler...

Welcome to the club, kmarc biggrin.gif
Thx. smile.gif

Haizzzz, was expecting higher OC for this card but only stable at core/mem : 695/1912mhz.....

Fan speed set to 60% only and temperature reaching 73'c..... not going to set higher as it is noisy.....

Will be OCing the shader after I make sure this setting is stable.... laugh.gif

Very nice scores with your Q6600 drool.gif Your 8800GT can't go above 700/2000?
*
Nope. Dunno whether due to heat or the card just can't reach that level without artifacts in ATItool......

Air cooling is good but imagine the 40C+ load temps with a water cooling biggrin.gif Lots of fun and chance to overclock further. Metalzone sells almost all water cooling parts.
*
Nice temps.

Hmmm..... my card artifact-ed yesterday at stock while playing some games..... dunno whether due to high temperature or not.... max at 73'c...

Gonna go back and try again tonight....

Does the TR HR-03 fit the 8800GT? hmm.gif

Nothing else fits your card except a waterblock laugh.gif *kidding*
Well, I believe you need the "Plus" version instead. If it artifacts after some time then it's most likely heat, sometimes due to the core or perhaps memory.
*
tongue.gif

I see.... Will test out the card again tonight.... if still having this problem, will probably consider better AIR cooling.... whistling.gif

Weird, as my previous 8800GTS goes up to 78'c without any problems...

looks like it smile.gif

but there are a few versions, do make sure its the one that fits yours
perhaps its the VRM or gmems not having good contact with the cooler smile.gif

Hey, thx for the link! thumbup.gif

Looks like the HR-03 GT is the correct one. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the temperature difference of 37'c between stock cooling and the HR-03GT..... rclxub.gif

Hmmmm.... hands a bit itchy now.... laugh.gif

those cheap coolers also enough already... unless u vmod to OC to reach the temperature limit...

I got an episode of artifacts + hang while gaming last night....and that's on my naked rig! However, the fan is at 60% only.... gonna try again tonight... if getting the same problem, might just get the HR-03 GT.... will see how it goes....

Thanks for the advice. Will take a look at accelero s1..... thumbup.gif

Just want to share my 3DMark06 result

@ default 600/1500/1800 :

I have decided not to overclock the ram bcoz my gc version have no heatsink attached to the ram
After tweaking my system... So this is the stable result I could get @ 660/1650/1800 ; Trying at 675 but not stable

Any comment how to improve my system performance will be appreciated notworthy.gif

Unlink the shader and overclock it too. You can overclock the rams too.

Make sure you use a stress program e.g. ATItool "artifact scanning" to test the overclocking.....

Also, you can set the GC fan speed to 100% using rivatuner (your fan speed defaults at a slow 30%...) ... wink.gif

U mean the shader can overclock higher than gpu core? I already overclock the ram to 925.. but got artifact... my previous galaxy can hit 950 very easy.. may be due to the heatsink is for the gpu only and the ram is naked... my gc is a big fan version.. might consider to install the ram heatsink... thanks 4 remind me about ati tool.. will use it later
*
Yup, you can try OCing the shader higher by unlinking it from the GPU core.

Hmmmm.... your 8800GT can't OC that higher huh? Did you increase the fan speed? I'm also using the ASUS 8800GT 512mb but it is the single-slot version. My max OC is core 695mhz and mem 956mhz (at a fan speed of 60%).... not a good card for OC either..... sad.gif

If you're having the 8800GT, you can play almost all games with highest settings at 1650x1050 except for a few.
*
I have, I have! laugh.gif

Mine is a 19' inch 1280x1024 LCD.... all current games can play.... thumbup.gif

Anyway, just an update on my ASUS 8800GT. Seems like the artifacts is no longer a problem after I updated the Nvidia driver to the latest one (175.16)..... rclxms.gif

thx kmarc..will lookin forward it..btw icemocha izzit all the 88gt idle n load with the temp u mention?or after oc the card? :respects:
*
My idle temperature at a downclocked speed is 52-56'c.... I find that the idle temperature fluctuates a lot depending on the ambient temperature.....

Currently, it is at 52'c at 30% fan speed at downclocked speed....

My load temperature at max overclocked speed is around 73-74'c on a hot day, at 60% fan speed.....

Those temperature readings are on my naked rig.... smile.gif
