It isn't the kind of ambiguous sci-fi film which leaves questions unanswered and asks you to make up your own interpretations, but I dont think it is any lesser because of this. Amazing film and probably instantly one of my favourite films. Gattaca is good. I agree. But I watched it 10 years ago. Wow, you're slow..

*Sigh*
Used to be, you cannot talk any studios into producing live action fantasy movie, because
1) They are TERRIBLY expensive to produce 2) They TERRIBLY difficult to make.
In the Eighties, 3 stand-out movies, defied odds and were produced,
1) Legendary puppeteer Jim Henson made a movie called Dark Crystal (Critically acclaim, but didn't do much in the box office, apparently had a sequel in production limbo) 2) with then not yet A-Lister Tom Cruise and Ridley Scott directed mildly successful box-office, Legend, only mildly. A huge set burnt down halfway into making the movie, causing a big chunk of the movie not to be flimed. 3) Producer/Director powerhouse George Lucas directed another mildy successful Willow.
Also not forgetting movies like Krull (not to be confused with Kull The Conqueror) and The Neverending Story (both more European produced and later US released) [both movies, I in love with]
The in the year 2000++ LOTR and Harry Potter changed movie producers mindset. They were BIG box-office earners.
Now movie producers CANNOT get enough of get their greedy hands on the rights to fantasy books fast enough... which isn't necessary a good thing...
Case in point Eragon (a bearable book) but a blah movie
And a movie I watched yesterday night, Inkheart, a blah(squared) fantasy movie and after watching the movie, I have absolutely no impulse to get the book to read.
Is this the end of Brandon Fraser's movie career!!?
After The Mummy 3 and this movie, one should hope so...

You left out a number of titles - Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, Dragonslayer, Ladyhawke, Labyrinth, Excalibur, and I'm sure I'm forgetting many others. After that, yes, fantasy fell into doldrums before it was rescued by Harry Potter and LOTR.

Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman is no longer an item. Several Rovers had crashed landed on Mars And the Americans are retiring their failed project called the Space Shuttle Program.... What a difference 10 years make 876000 hours (Sung to What A Difference a day make) Oh... Gattaca, good movie!! This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Jul 15 2009, 04:42 PM

Both Ethan Hawke and Jude Law gave very strong performances in Gattaca. They felt genuine, and so did the film.
Duplicity A better title would be 'Twists and Turns'. Quite a bit of fun, entertaining, and has a nice, similar tone to Soderbergh's Ocean's movies. I lapped up the final twist: it was unique for a movie like this I thought. But it does seem too convoluted at times. It's the kind of movie where you understand everything at the resolution, yet get the feeling that if you laid out all the plans and pieces in a clear, chronological form, some holes are bound to appear. Also, was a bit disappointed of not seeing more of Giammati and Wilkensen. The awesome main titles seemed to suggest a great battle between the two was at hand, but it didn't really go anywhere in the movie. Shame, that was a mouth-watering prospect.
Overall an entertaining and fun movie, but make sure you keep up. Torn between a 3.5 and a 4/5.

For a movie supposedly ingrained in film history it's funny how I've never heard of it. lol
Saw Fast & Furious halfway and decided it wasnt interesting enough for me to continue watching it at the expense of studying for my test tomorrow.
Got The Seventh Seal, Watchmen Director's Cut, and Boy A lined up for the next few days.

But I deliberately left out the Z-grade Italian-made flicks. There were quite a few of those.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Just watched this in Pavillion's THX cinema and what can one say...
If you are a lover of the books, you will like it.
If you are a lover of the movies, you will like it.
With each progressive movie, the tone of the movie gets darker
And this is the darkest of them all (until the next two come out I suppose)
With each successive director, Chris Columbus (childlike), Alfonso Cuarón (modern wardrobe), Mike Newell (A PG13 werewolf), David Yates (grounded the magical world with muggle's world) each brings their unique vision to the movie
This movie is a very faithful adaptation of the book accept for a little part in the middle of the movie (a scene in the movie that is NOT in the books)
And the end... better not spoil it for you guys (and gals)
In short, if you are a fan of Potter's, go see it, if not, wouldn't matter what I say!
Maybe the biggest box office of the year (not difficult with this years movie offerings *Sigh*)
My two sens worth

O-M-G! What a SCARY movie!
There are REALLY some disturbing scenes.
And supposedly based on a TRUE story.
If you like scary movie, YOU'LL WANT TO WATCHED THIS.
If you watch this on DVD/Blu-Ray, there is a special documentary about the really people in the movie. And the stuff they were talking about the house is EVEN SCARIER...

Watched all the 5 Beatles movies in the past few days. Let It Be is my favorite, probably because it's the most "normal" of the bunch, it has more songs and it displayed more chemistry between the boys. A Hard Day's Night and Help! was loads of fun, so was Yellow Submarine, which was a real treat to the eyes with its colorful, psychedelic scenes. Magical Mystery Tour was too random and awkward but I like it though. Watch it in the order as they were released and see how they actually changed and mature, even in that space of 6-7 years. Good stuff.

12 Angry Men. 1957 black & white version starring Henry Fonda. All time classic. Just watched it again earlier while idling away the night (WoW servers down). Great film about 12 jurors discussing a murder case. Very interesting to see the speech patterns and mannerisms of the times, and the scene when Lee J. Cobb's character's eyes bulged in blinding rage will stick in my mind for a long time. Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_Angry_Men
