I see. Never knew about that

But if your router reboots, there should be more than enough time for the pppoe session to clear.

The last time when everyone got 10x upgrade, we 100mbps user only got 8x, so it's quite unfair if we get to upgrade to 1gbps only this round.

Dont put ur hope high.

For the free upgrade from 800mbps to 1/2Gbps later, need to change to the D-LINK ONR thing?

Is having a single d-link ONR better than the current modem + router setting?

Thanks

Mandatory, or else won't be able to get past 940Mbps with TCP/IP overhead, but you can use back your OLD ONU if wanted, just you won't get anything beyond 940Mbps

And TM wants to convince you that it is indeed true 1Gbps/2Gbps since they cheaped out on the ONU, so you can only get beyond 1Gbps/2Gbps with WiFi 6, and not LAN laugh.gif

Currently using all asus router (main router and 2 mesh router); very convenient cz can use app to control and monitor everything. If switch to dlink, afraid can’t use anymore. Read that the given dlink quality is also bad as usual la... wonder is there like similar ONR but it’s asus brand out there??

You can put ONR into bridge mode, but max you'll get is only 940Mbps since you're going through gigabit port, if 2Gbps, you have to do LACP (I think) to get the "full" 2Gbps on 3rd party router. D-Link doesnt support that

And no, I dont think ASUS makes any ONR, as far as im aware.

Asus doesn't make professional tier hardware (well there is ExpertWiFi series but it doesn't really count)

Your best bet is an independent 3rd party 2.5Gbps modem connected to the 2.5Gbps port of your Asus router to fully take advantage of a 2Gbps subscription
(Similar to your current setup except with 2.5Gbps ports)

Since, it's quite disappointing that TM did not provide one and instead gave an all in one dlink
I believe Maxis does, but the usual Maxis on TM Infra downsides apply
And also price differences since you're getting free speed upgrade from TM

Also refer to Anime4000's Ditch ONU thread

I have high hope TM will give ONU with multigigabit port down the road.
Maybe they are facing supply chain issue now.
Maybe they are genuinely cheapskate. But they just did a core network refresh with ZTE, I think they will do an access network refresh too.

The reasoning is this.
PON bandwidth is shared. TM cannot have many people sharing one OLT port with speed higher than 1Gbps.
If you remember correctly, early day GPON ONU only comes with 100Mbps port and is meant to be shared 32 - 64 times.

If TM continue moving 1Gbps and higher to dedicated circuit, they might as well consider offering point-to-point optical network to household like Init7 in Switzerland.

Now every equipment maker from Nokia to Huawei, ZTE offers combo OLT transmitter, combining GPON, XGSPON, 25GPON / 50GPON into one single device.

China, Middle East and even Australia is deploying it now. We have high volume that's not available just a few years ago.
Higher volume == Lower price.

Maxis called me 2 days ago.
One touted feature "UNLIKE UNIFI" is 2.5Gbps "ONU".

really, TM...
when are you gonna do justice to your ultra subscribers?

Pretty sure no, except that TM expects that you can utilize >1G fully over WiFi 6 alone and not LAN, since all older ONU is basically a fiber converter and ATA

And maybe their special sauce for their 1 + 1 config for 2Gbps
