I was thinking of getting the 5100SH for one simple reason :

QUOTE
In the network function, you can enjoy a movie with no TViX HDD
TViX HD can be networked with a PC system using its built-in LAN port. You are able to navigate to a file in a PC on TVIX Boxs network and play the file from its original destination without having to first copy it onto the TVIX Box HD.

No need to get HDD..seems pretty useful. biggrin.gif

I thought it's only RM1500++?..that was what they quoted me at Midvalley Megamall. HTPC big la..and u have to run a Windows OS not to mention the bootup time and the noise from the fan. Very mah fan.

btw, off topic... since blu ray disc are not easily available in MY let alone the player price... those who bought 720 or full HD tv where are those ppl getting their source?

Or are they buying because "it is new technology" or "my fren have i oso must have?"

Download? Tmnet is controlling the speed 720p file over 1 gb. 1080 i think 8-20gb.... Buying DVD from Amazon , ebay? too pricey especially the shipping costs

lots of ppl buying flat panels are for showing nia, not a very high percentage of buyers tat fully utilise its resolution, i know many who until now are still using composite for dvd playing not even component least to say hdmi

blu rays and hd dvd are not tat hard to get, i get mine from amazon, which is hassle free and fast, and end of the day its even cheaper than those on sale in msia

lucky for jaybee ppl(me biggrin.gif) im able to receive HD signal from spore, although not much, but @ least i know my HD panel is not bought in vain
dunno is there any HD5 users in jaybee yet or not, am i the early adopters? biggrin.gif

Bro, Bluray price on amazon will shock you. They're almost the same price as regular DVDs.
I don't have a PS3 or bluray player (gonna wait till one format wins) so these people who buy 720 or Full HD TVs are mostly also gamers. They play Xbox 360/PS3 at 720p/1080i/p.

My LCD TV is 1366 x 768 (not FullHD...i know)
If I have a file which is 640x480 (usual TVB serials), will it stretch to the fullest screen possible while keeping the right ratio ?

Any models support PATA drives ?

My FullHD sources are from PS3 which can play games and movies (Blu-ray) at 1920x1080p resolution.

I bought the FullHD stuff b'coz of my passion aka hobby.............not b'coz of "it is new technology" or "my fren have i oso must have" or "showing off" that kind of crap............... shakehead.gif doh.gif

Cause can also use as DVD player for HTPC and HTPC upscaler is better.
If you add more money can even be a game console.

It does not necessary be big. THere are HTPC that are in SFF size, but as you can expect, it;s not that powerful. You can hardly play game on it as well, i mean the new games. There are HTPC casing that are desktop type, like the Silverstone casing. It's kind big, but at least it's not standing and it look nice and matching to home theater sets.

There are motherboard that can let you go pass if you do not attach keyboard and mouse. I think newer mobo do support this. You just need to setup and config the HTPC, the rest is up to you. HTPCer will put in a remote control as well, and it's will your mouse. Read up on HTPC, those who set it up make it so convenient that it;s almost the same as normal DVD player, no hassle at all.

For the slow loading time, there is always hibernation mode or you can leave it on and put it into either sleep or standby.

One of the advantage of HTPC is its upscaler capability. It's rival even the best hardware upscaler, but there is always a cost. YOu need a good processor, ram and gpu to do that.

Ya, you still need to do a lot of setting and ya, the smallest HTPC will be bigger than TVix.

I think HTPCis for the people who wanna experiment and have the satisfaction feeling when it works. TVix is for the people who want to get straight to the point.

ya TViX isnt perfect yet... but most of the time nothing is 100% perfect... what i know TViX is very popular in Europe & Russia and Dvico is a very aggressive company which emphasizing on DMP (Digital Media Player) you can have a look at this Russia website http://www.mpcclub.com/ .. and Dvico even release 1~2 new firmware within a month... just imagine how aggressive they are.. frankly speaking.. some hardware in the market even branded one also dun even release firmware within few months or half a year... although they found the known problem..

ya.. some of my contents also got sound problem... but mainly is DTS audio... the rest are ok.. do u know TViX USB can support movie playback with high bitrate up to 40mbps? but very seldom movie come with 40mbps bitrate and i tested movie with 38.26mbps very good... and i have a sample content even with 52mbps n only can playback from the internal HDD instead of external USB HDD..

but now I download H.264 contents more... coz small file size (it's about 1/3 of normal HD contents) compare with VC-1/Bluray contents...

for content sharing very simple.. just drop me a mail at summer4128@gmail.com with ur contact, location, list of contents u hav currently,
msn id n we discuss further through email or IM (my msn id same as my email...).. n i have more than 500GB contents... thumbup.gif

sometime got... but after i plug to difference power source it work fine until now... i think it depends on the power source maybe the
grounding is not good...n maybe too many things plug into 1 multi-plug extension gua... maybe u can try with other power source...
or change the better trailing socket... hmm.gif

i just bought a M-4100SH .....very nice to use but i m having problems playing some of the codec ....it couldnt play some of d MP4 files that i have but i downloaded some 1080p HD content ....no problem playing them ....even after i downscale it to 720P, the picture still look nice.....

the thing i lov most bout the player is the USB port .....i can just plug in my card reader n view all my picture thru it without a computer....and i was told that u can use a USB wifi to connect it to your wifi router at home .....it will bcome a mini storage device for all the computers connected to the router....

It can be DVD movie or DVD with h.264 files
As long as it's USB connector... can be both usb powered or via ac adaptor powered

this NAS contains the HDD (1 or more) and connects to ur network.
Then you can TVIX and computer access it.

Now using usb hdd, only one device can access at one time

yah I got a 4100SH. I pre-ordered it somewhere in July/August but only got it in early September. When I got it, the official FW still could not support MKV yet...so I guess I must be one of the early adopters in Penang smile.gif
I got it from the disti I think. The office is sumwhere in Bandar Sunway. I' can't really remember the exact price, but I remember they got give me sum freebies when I bought it (free cable, mug, tshirt)

oh, BTW, my setup is I connect it to an external 160GB USB drive with HDMI cable to my Sharp LC37. The audio i run it to my Pioneer HT set.... Not the ideal setup but it works tongue.gif

Well, I just got the 4100SH, cost me SGD 856 (on offer with 500GB, tuner and HDMI cable).

Look forward to see what we can learn from each other here.

Unfortunately, I'm in KL, so tuner no use yet (unless can check out RTM test digital Tx, but probably no HD...)

Bought from Memory World in SimLim - their Christmas promo.

Could have saved even more by getting the harddisk in KL, but wanted to make sure the hdd functions (including FW upgrade) were ok...

Abt the Tx, I don't really know, only heard somewhere that RTM was testing out digital TV in various parts of the country...

Yes, using 1.3.15 now. Having some problems with some avi files using mp3 audio, expected from the forums, working on solving them. Maybe we should compare notes....

ronnie:
iinm, price was SGD 655, slightly more than the current ideatools offer (rm100 off till end January, I think). But the clincher was the free tuner/HDMI cable offer... You should check with them, it was supposed to be a Christmas promo...

Similar delta of SGD100+ for the 5100SH.

u can plug to your amplifier (AV receiver) if your amp supports HDMI ... which could cost a bomb.

that is normal for other AV device like HDMI DVD players.
Else you can always use optical/coaxial for audio out from TVIX..which is even better.

I find the traditional receiver/amp setup better, more flexible with the sound setup. My friend's got an expensive Bose kit, but sound not so good unless the source is real good. This may not be the case with some of my d/l stuff...

Memory World are at SLS #04-12, along one of the back alleys.

5100 is cylindrical, more stylish and looks nicer.

I prefered the block-shaped 4100, about SGD100 cheaper and easier to stack, especially with my portable harddisk.

Functions are the same.

If not in a rush, should wait for the 6500 model which should be out late January 08. Same form factor as 4100. No cylindrical model like 5100. Price comparable to 4100, perhaps slight revision up.

New Sigma chipset EM8635 (vs. EM8623 in the 4100/5100), HDMI 1.3, Dolby True HD and DTS HD sound support, aluminium casing, Initially will run the same firmware as the 4100/5100, but eventual firmware update will bring in a host of new features, new GUI interface in HD (1280X720), true type font support (to re-size subtitles), etc. Wi-Fi not native.

Yes, I know. It's always the same, I was looking at 4000 and the sarotech 570hd, then the 4100 came out. There will always be something better round the corner. I suppose, buy now if you want it now. We'll probably see the 6500 around March or later.

There are also some China brands coming out soon with similar 6500 specs, but support will be doubtful. I have an old hd video player that stated "online firmware upgrade available" but alas, no such thing...

1080p? Well, I don't plan on a BD or HDDVD drive yet, and D/Ls will be humongous! Sticking to 720p for the time being...

i think at the moment, supply is short. when they first launched, they had to stop selling online as they were flying off the shelf .... too fast that production couldn't cope, all back-ordered. not sure current status now. could still be back-ordered, that's why maybe not selling online for the moment. no idea where to get in Malaysia. sorry.

best bet is to register at their website and sign-up for the wait list. to buy from their online store, u need to register yourself first.

In fact, that's how I decided to go with the 4100.

I brought a portable hd with different kinds of avi, divx, divx6, h264, mkv and anything else I had to Memory World and plugged it into the demo box to check it out. Everything flawless except for 1 file, which had an mp3 soundtrack, so I was convinced. Especially running the 720p and 1080i files direct off USB without any lag!

Interesting thing about this place, they are so strict on copied files that even MW did not have any HD files to show off its capabilities, except stuff recorded off Singapore HD5 and HD8... (I think I actually helped sell 2 boxes for them while I was there!)

You can buy USB based DVB tuners quite easily in SLS or Funan. Here, a bit difficult, nothing being broadcast... Could try lyp, I've seen some stuff like that in some of the back shops in Level 2 (or was it 3??)...

We are talking about different things. 4100/5100 are media players that can play files on internal hdd, usb drive or on network. If you add a tuner to it, it becomes a PVR and can play and record digital broadcasts. These can be in SD or HD.

The DVB tuners are just tuners, and if you wish to record the broadcasts, you need to use PVR software to do it. They do not play media files per se. Recorded files will normally be played with WMP or any other player you have on your PC.

Well, picture this...

I have a small box plugged into my LCD. With this box, I can watch my collection of HD movies and TV series, watch my DVDs (D5 and D9), play music, stream music and video off my NAS, etc., etc., all without a HTPC or any other gadget in sight. All I need is a small remote control.

That's exactly what you need to ask yourself.

In my case, I had a collection of media files (movie, docu and music) as well as a number of dvds that I wanted to watch. But watching on my PC was so unsatisfying.

I also had a 40" LCD sitting downstairs, so I wanted to see the HD stuff on a larger screen (although only 720p, 1080p LCDs were sooo expensive).

Do the sums...

Announcement...

This month w_w.ideatools.com.my offering Dvico Tvix 4100 for RM1440 w/o tuner. Go for it. As I understand there's new model coming out (Tivx 6500SH) early this year.

But I just manage to get one from other dealer with Tvix 4100SH + tuner for RM1450. Incredible machine with multi capable playback. With HDMI, the 4100SH will meet most of my current requirements. ( A media storage, Media Player and DVB-T Tuner)

For other divx fans, who interested to purchased Tivx better buy in bulk it may save RM. As new model arrive, the price 4100 will go down soon.

guys sorry to steal the thread. It seems to me Dvico is expensive if compared to PS3 40G. Both also can do streaming. I guess PS3 also can play those video format once the firmware is ready ??

I think this thread is beginning to stray.

The thread topic is "Dvico TViX media player owner, pls come in". Hence, please comment if (a) you own one or (b) are interested in, or thinking of getting one, or © use something which has a similar function and want to compare notes. That's how we can all learn from our experiences of using such devices.

And as was posted earlier, we buy for what we see meets our needs. In the case of the Dvico stuff, it is to play back media files, from audio to SD and HD video, either from onboard hard disk, USB disk or via network streaming. I think we are capable of deciding whether the device is worth our money, and do not need to be told that this is too expensive! This is not a Trade Zone topic...

Please dont compare with the gamers and a/v enthusiast. This is a dedicated machine for a/v not for games, and do not compare the price with other game machine. I do agree that PS3 soon will have this ability but it will be limited capability as compared to dvico.

As price concern, this machine was design in korea and manufactured in China thus will minimsed the cost. New Firmware support released almost everymonth.

Guys this is the ultimate machine for a/v crazyness. rclxm9.gif

To kick off the new focussed discussion, I find that I have problems playing back some normal SD avi files, where the audio and video don't seem to sync. It's ok when I play them on my PC. So far, the temporary fix is to convert these avi files to Divx, but it's tedious if you have 6 seasons of Family Guy to convert! Plus others...

Anyone have any experience/ideas/fixes for this?

Anyone interested in setting up a media exchange for HD stuff?

Another question.

I am looking at 4100 and 5100. Both around RM1500.

What about 4000 and 5000 model? The price is about RM900.

I want to know any significant different ?

The 4000/5000 use an older chipset (Sigma 8621 vs 8623), so lesser capabilities in terms of HD file types. If you are just on divx or avi type files, no practical difference...

(I stand ready to be corrected.)

Added on January 16, 2008, 6:13 pmPlus there is normally a price delta of about rm200 between the 4100 and 5100...

Hi guys, i am very interested in 4100sh. few questions b4 i purchase though:

1) Can 4100sh play 1080p video files to my LCDTV (1080i WXGA HD Ready only).

2) Can 4100sh play 1080p video files to a normal (non HD Ready) CRT TV (via composite input)?

I am worried that those 1080p files are only meant for FULL HD LCD TV.

Thanks guys!

Your display device must support 1080p (1920x1080). HD-Ready LCDs (usually 1366x768 like mine) can only take 720p and 1080i.

Similarly, a CRT cannot support full HD, especially not on composite, so you should just get a normal SD picture.

Only way out may be to buy a 24 or 30 inch LCD monitor that supports full HD mode.

i think the users here are of the 4/5100 series, so no upgrading yet, unless the 6500 do miracles
d100200, if tats ur case, go for the 4000 series

dracozz, it would play any file as it long it has its codec in regards of resolution, be it fullhd ka, hd ka, its only whether ur tv can output or not, if kenot output , it will deinterlace or whatever they call it

so if u playing a 1080p file outputing thru composite, it will play as 480/576i on your tv, tats it, it has nothing to do with ur display

Just found out this dvico thread. Have brought this dvico 5100SH last year during HIFI show. Put in a 750Gb HDD (almost full). Mostly play Hd movie rip, dvd or Full HD 720/1080i mkv. Most of the problem encounter is File not play cause codec and compactible, some mkv file and out of audio/video sync.
Have you guys upgrade to the latest firmware? May i know how good is the latest firmware? I plan to upgrade it but decide to wait and see.

If not mistaken, almost RM1k for the 750gb HDD. I thaught getting the 1Tb HDD. But the sell guy said max is 800Gb. Later found out is can goes till 1Tb. vmad.gif
rx333, How is the latest firmware when playing the mkv file? specially the 1080i mkv. My firmware somtime play with no sound, have sound but no picture or fast forward problem. Mostly in 1080i mkv. But not much problem on the 720p. Is there any effect on the others avi file? Have they correct the picture/ slide show problem?
You can use the 2.5" ext HDD to plug in the dvico usb. No need power supply. I always use it to transfer big file to dvico player but damn slow.

Dvico site added the new comparison table.

I can see the clear different for 4100 vs 4000 series beside the obvious chipset and HDMI port.

1. HDMI (v1.1) up to 1080p
2. H.264 HD AVI
3. H.264 Transport Stream
4. H/W JPEG (High Resolution)
5. Data Copy & Move in TViX HDD
6. Data Copy & Move on Network Drive
7. Data Copy & Move with External HDD Drive

Can anyone explain on point 5/6/7 ?

Thanks.

Is a mkv file with AC3 audio. But suprisely the dvico doesn't have problem playing the true 1080i/720p blue ray/ HD-DVD file which is much more bigger size.
Than that is not much you can do but using power supply for the 3.5" HDD. I m thinking of setting up a Raid ext HDD set or NAS to expand the storage. Either 2 Hdd or 4 HDD in a case. Hopefully the price drop futher.

The 5/6/7 is a file copy & move between the dvico and your ext HDD or the thumbdrive or thru network. It is the easiet way to transfer file without go through PC.

rx330, u said 1080p video will be output as 480/576i to a normal CRT TV and so, i guess 1080i to a WXGA LCD TV (via HDMI), right? 4100SH will 'downgrade' 1080p video and output using the correct format playable on the respective display.

i sent ideatools an email regarding the promo for this month...so far no reply from them.

Looks like you've taken care of the supply side. Now to complete the demand side by getting at least an HD-ready screen, if not a Full HD... Then the 5100 is used to its full potential!

Not an ISO file. All the bluray file is in a folder. It consist of-
xxxx.disk1.ts
xxxx.disk2.ts
xxxx.par2
xxxx.vol00+01.par2
xxxx.vol01+02.par2

Just click on the ts file and it would play.

Mostly local here sell 1-2 HDD NAS. And 2 HDD can be raid. In the web or oversea, already have 4 HDD NAS. The price is still very high. Another solution is HDD casing which can hold 4 HDD with USB connected. Just plug in to dvico. Cost RM600+ if I not mistaken.

I still waiting the full 1080i lcd price to go down. And the local station to go HD. Otherwise I have to add on another encorder for the lcd. So now got to passion with my 34" crt. blink.gif And start to collect the HD movie. tongue.gif

The 34" crt have all the necessary component. It till DVD resolution. Pretty clear in HD resolution too.
The dvico can play TS file. How is the bluray disc behave? I never really see the bluray disk in action. My main purpose to collect the bluray/HDdvd movie is the HD quality and later I can burn to bluray disk without a quality lost. And make full use of my dvico 5100HD player.
Nowaday I lazy to burn or convert to DVD. Need too many disk. Just stuff all in to HDD. Just need a solution to increase the HDD storage.

Your suggestion is not cheap bro. I get my bluray movie free cost. What is better than free. later when the blank disk get cheaper than I can burn to disk. No hurry bro unless I canot watch the bluray movie.

Ok. Tonight I try see can act like dvd. If canot than hope dvico can upgrade the firmware in future. Or get the latest model with this future. thumbup.gif

yeah, the player, writer and the disk is still damn expensive. No point for me to buy it now. While now I can enjoy the bluray movie using dvico. thumbup.gif Ehmm... my next budget thinking just get a HD projector and play from the dvico should be enough. rclxms.gif
How far can they drop the bluray movie? compare a blank disc. Take the DVD example.

Good point, DL DVD blanks are still relatively expensive, over rm10 for the good ones, compared to a buck or so for the single-layer...

actually how much HDD does NAS hold? can it add more HDD to it in the future? i also takut the speed ler...
NAS for home usage typically comes in 1/2/4 HDD bays. Those 2 or 4 bay NAS allows u to run RAID configuration (i.e. u can do a mirror image of another HDD in case the other HDD crashes). This is useful if you store your home videos, baby photos, critical files, etc. any file that is invaluable/critical/for keepsake. If HDD crash and no backup, u can cry all u want .... that's what happened to mine recently btw. I learnt the hard way. I keep videos of my kid since she was born till now on the hard disk.

If you don't want to run RAID, then a 2 bay NAS means you can combine the capacity of 2 HDDs in one enclosure, i.e. 500GB + 500GB = 1TB. You can add HDD step by step (i.e. no need to fill up all the bays for it to work).

Suggest you get the 2 or 4 bay NAS to future-proof your investment. Popular brands include Synology & QNAP. Don't get Netgear. I've used all 3. Note that QNAP is DLNA compliant, so it can be used to stream to your PS3 and xbox360 (format/codec dependant). Synology is not yet DLNA compliant, though it's suppose to be through a firmware upgrade in the near future.

Malaysian pricing I don't know, sorry. A quick call to IT Hypermarket or Low Yatt should get u an answer. OR check those price list on this forum.

Roughly though .... a single bay NAS should be in the region of RM750 and 2 bay NAS around RM1,200 (prices does NOT include any hard disks, just the enclosure). Don't hold me to that though, ok?

NAS must be connected to your home network through router (usually wired since the NAS box itself usually doesn't have wifi built-in). Once it is hooked up to your home network, any device that can connect to your router will be able to access the NAS.

Synology, Qnap, etc are expensive options. There is also the 2-bay Linksys NAS box selling at about rm400.

I will be trying out either my cheapo China LAN HD Server (rm180), or my SLUG (Linksys NSLU), when I find the time. Probably connecting thru the Aztech Homeplug. Though, like rx330, concern over power surges is a bit worrying...

Could be interesting...

The best of NAS is, you can put it at the corner of your house and connect thru router. You can share it, assist from anywhere or stream to dvico. (if the speed is fast enough) Hopefully the price can drop fast since it quite famous now. The last I saw at digital mall qnap sell at RM1500 2 HDD bay. But old model.

component cables can do 1080p but the actual capability is limited by the player side (and whether the TV can accept 1080p via component due to HDCP data protection)

Added on February 4, 2008, 1:35 pmbro RX, your 4100 can play all the MKV codecs ar? it's seems to be a general container with so many video/audio codecs as well... infact can store Realmedia codec inside MKV also... that would be a pain to decode...

Just got my first look at the Popcorn Hour 100. Friend of mine brought a sample in from Shenzhen.

It's much cheaper than the 4100/5100 and looks cheaper too! The finishing is like some China boxes I saw in Singapore, not very well-finished.

Now I don't think my 4100 is that much more expensive...

You rite.. mine one 4100 run smothly, HDMI 1.3 work well. I did tested with 1080i video and no problem. All avi, mkv file outputed via SD or HD tv. The only problem is getting software.. 4.3Gb up to 30Gb!!
Worth buying for 4100SH but those want to spend more can get newer model.

added bonus for those have a DVB-T Tuner installed, RTM now transmitting the SD and HD signal in Klang valley. Just connected to UHF antenna. that it.

Ya loh, I wrote to DVICO about the DVD .ISO playback issue and also the need of playback MKV with built-in subtitle in last Nov and was told that they are workig on it for new firmware expected in spring this year. It's now 5 months passed their last firmware update and am still waiting... You think they have given up of 4100 update already? If so, I don't think I will buy TVIX again. vmad.gif

No choice, have to live with 4100 for sometime. Wife will kill me if I upgrade again.

I do use SRT, but have do use remote to adjust the timing at times. Really afraid of spoling the remote with this constant pressing of same remote key. My Astromax FF key not working now becuase always fast forward to skip commercials, and there is no immitation remote, have to get the original. This have to find sometime to learn how to fix the subtitle synchro issue.

Another issue I have is that those Bluy-ray files are in spearate files (those .ts files within the same movie) which TViX will have distracting pause before continuing to the next files. some free time to fix the timing issue. Anyway to joing those files into a single one?

The .ts (actually it's got additional character, can't remember) is actaull the transport stream format for Blu-ray movie (the original disc), and it's in 1080p. The 4100 can actually play back the original Bluy-ray files (privided the protection is removed). I got the Casino Royale and T2 in my TViX box now. Some others in my PC not tranferred over becuase they are damn big files (total 30g to over 40g per movie).

Yep, I mix diff. sub with differrent rips (.H264, mpg, DVix, etc) becuase it's not always that I can get the matched versions.

The 4100 allows up and down chn keys to speed up or delay the subtitles. It's just that I may need to continuously doing it throughout the movie because I think it may be using absolute timing info in the sub file instead of relative timing (this is only my guess). Anyway, just got some tip from my friend to use the Vobsub to adjust the timing. Will try to find some time to do it, maybe tonight if I don't fell asleep. Actually I still got a number of movies to catch up to.. really not enough time leh. sad.gif

Yes, this is in the 4100 specs :

Format :.avi, .wmv, .mpg, .iso .vob, .ifo, .mp4, .asf, .tp, .trp, .ts, .m2ts, .mov(H.264), mkv

and NO, can't play .evo (I got the Transformers HD-DVD version and it won't play).

Audio supported are :

MP3, WMA, AAC, Ogg, PCM, M4A, AC3,FLAC, WAV

For multi-channel, I can only get DD5.1, ex DTS, es (i think 6.1 discrete as well) through the digital out (coax and Toslink) to AVR. I don't think it has True-HD decode to PCM (like PS3), not sure also because my AVR doesn't have HDMI port to receive multi-chn PCM.

No menus at all for Blu-ray, it's just playing file by file (.m2ts) like I complained. So far it doesn't play well on the Blu-ray movies as I feel that it's being pushed its limits playing the .m2ts with tendency of stuttering. I mostly play MKV files now because of this issue, and of course it takes a LOT longer time to get the Blu-ray version vs. the MKV. BTW, Blue Planet Blu-ray is less than 20G, so it's more manageable. Another problem is not able to change the audio track, e.g. I got english audio in TViX but got Chinese audio in my notebook from the same file (Caisno Royale .m2ts files).

Still waiting for the update or hack for PS3 to support NTFS because the FAT32 format suppport of not more than 4GB file size is really usefless. I also don't have powerful PC to do video streaming to PS3 currrently..

Oh yes, you just reminded me to test the .m2ts file on the PS3. I wanted to do it earlier but got. It's reall pain in the back to make sure the file is less than 4GB and copy it to the FAT32 hd and has to be in the VIDEO directory and all such craps. I managed to use the MKV2VOB utility to convert and playback H.264 file on the PS3. It's still H.264 encoded but in VOB instead of MKV. So I think there is a hope that it can play .m2ts directly since it's palying back .m2ts file in BD anyway.

Yes, the ripped BD files should have all the audio (including HD) in them. Actully I have managed to backup the original BD to a .iso BD image file, and managed to mount it as virtual BD drive in my noteback (got no real BD drive) and playback. So far I managed to playback the menus and preview but it went blank when play the actual movie. I believe this is because I have not removed the protection yet. Plan to do it with the Slysoft DVDFab-HD and try again. Also not easy to get the DVDFab-HD to "registered" as well. So you can see now, there are so many things I plan to do but got no time.. sad.gif

Lucky you . My wife does not agree to buy BD now because still got the DVD collection collecting dust.

How much is the HD for PS3? It's the notebook size, right? Isn't it very expensive for the large capacity type?

May need your help on this. How to transfer file thru LAN in ps3, is it easy?

Tested the .m2ts files on PS3 last night. It could only play mpeg2 content and showed unsupported data for the AVC content file (which could be played fine on 4100).

Also tested the audio streams on 4100. Good news, the .m2ts file does contain the various audio streams, DD, DTS, 6ch LPCM (need to check again on the DD-HD and DTS-HD). I found the way to switch the audio track is by pressing the audio button on top (obvious but I thought it was meant for swicthing to audio files like mp3 files).

Have you tried the audio out on HDMI port? Does it send multi-chn PCM?

Wow, just read that PS3 will get the DTS-HD and MA decode firmware this month. Headache now, got to change AVR shocking.gif

From the website, the USD 240 is just for the unit alone. I believe it ships out from Singapore. So shipping cost cannot be a lot.

The HDX 900 uses the same Sigma chipset SMP8635 as the Popcorn Hour and the TVIX M-6500a.

Dont like the design of 4100, HDX is all metal casing.
Shipping is $USD45. I think its coming from China.
There are 2 sites online selling them.
China n SG. SG is slightly more expensive as they have changed the payment currency from USD to SG. SG will be bout RM50 more.

I got mine from - http://hdtvplayer.info/
Another site that is also selling it is at - http://www.hdx1080.com/

The 1st site, is cheaper by RM50 or so coz they deal in USD. tongue.gif

Bout the DTS thingy on MKV, I think its more or less not solved.
"2. Fixed AC3 audio being mute when output through HDMI during DVD playback.
- Known issue: DTS output still unable to recover."
Thats from the latest F/W update.

Ya but intermittent. Depends on the mkv file.

Added on April 16, 2008, 9:01 amOh ya.. I would actually suggest to those that wanna get the player, get from the SG ppl, as the China ppl are not that professional. My email also late reply n got 1 fella in the forum there complain that his item didnt get shipped.

OK. It seems that this is NOT a real company and just a HOAX looking to take people's money and nothing else.

I guess you are not real company afterall. I guess I have to take OTHER MEASURES to ensure my money does not GET STOLEN...

Too bad, it seemed like a nice website, but a HOAX afterall.

Thankx for your BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE and for TAKING MY MONEY and NO PRODUCT...

No wonder why PayPal blocks your accounts. You should NOT even have an account on PayPal. I will get with them RIGHT NOW on this matter.

Thank you for such crappy business.

hello cornelp,
i believe you should not be worried about your order,
by my experience (my order was forty something ) you should receive your tracking
number within this week, by my experience again, when you receive your tracking
number, you should not be able to track your shipment within next one or two days.
Anyway this is much better than wait for two months just to place your order for PCH.
I must also mention that communication with sales@hdtvplayer.info works just fine
for me. That's too bad if they are not answering your questions now.
cheers

IINM, the HDMI out is not able to produce DTS, u must use the co-ax or optical out n go thru ur DTS capable amp to have DTS out on ur mkv files.
Anyhow, once I get my device, we will soon know for sure.

I download 720p movies (mkv) and burn it on DVD and I realise I can change subtitle from the DVD playback.

My question is: Can tvix 4100 can subtitle from the remote if the .mkv file supports?

But I realise I can't change subtitle in windows media player. how come?

I download .mkv (720p) movie via rapidshare. I try playback using windows media player and it shows default subtitle.
Sometimes english, sometimes foreign language. I can't find anywhere in media player to change the subtitle.

So, I tried burning it on a DVD using this s/w called ConvertXtoDVD which comes with a dvd menu.
From the dvd menu, I realise there's a function to change subtitle and it works. I change subtitle from the menu.

Now I want to know whether TVIX 4100 can change subtitle or not like in the DVD menu?

wow, can burn like dvd? got menu somemore?
meaning after burn, u use wat software to play?

the 4100 now address subs issue, previously only external subs, .srt with the same file name is playable, after the latest fw update, embedded subs in mkv is playable
if its has more than one subs, there is a button on the remote for u to scroll to your desired sub language

i personally tried it, a movie file with embeded as well as external sub, works fine thumbup.gif

After I burn to DVD, of course I play using normal DVD player la. I select the sub using the dvd remote from the dvd menu.

So, mkv with more than 1 sub can change in tvix 4100, right, via remote?

How can I find the sub in the .mkv file movie? How do I know how to find the sub in that file?

And how to change sub in windows media player?

after burning my 720p mkv file to DVD, the video quality looks like upscaled.
Looks near 720p. I only use a normal DVD with component connection. Considered very good.

You no need upgrade since 4100 can already play MKV.

Really can't wait to use it. Currently downloading some HD movies.

What's the difference between 4100 & 6500? From what I know it's only HDMI 1.3 in 6500.

HDMI 1.3 difference is obvious or not?

I download 720p movies (mkv) and burn it on DVD and I realise I can change subtitle from the DVD playback.

My question is: Can tvix 4100 can subtitle from the remote if the .mkv file supports?

But I realise I can't change subtitle in windows media player. how come?

agreed to rx330, tested on components and hdmi not much diffrence but Hdmi better in resolution.Tune your sensivity of eyes for this test season. or your hdmi is having a problem. (check the hdmi cable too).

Have anyone have latest firmware for 4100 or 5100. (Full support for mkv embedded subtitle). meanwhile RTM is still on trial broadcasting DTTV (DVB-S) over klang valley. enjoy with dvico tuner.

When I brought the tvix player, the seller told not all the hdmi cable is suitable for this player. Some have noise and picture quality. They tested that giraffe hdmi cable is most suitable.

Sorethroat, I had that problem with some .srt files as well. What I did was to open the .srt file with WORD and re-save the file in normal ascii format. You can see the original encoding format when you first open the .srt file with WORD. I think the file is encoded with the format which 4100 does not recognize but the PC does.

Thanks. Do you still have lip sync problem? Did you swicth to Auto NTSC/PAL/24Hz mode? I find that the lip-sync problem is more severe when playing back in 24p mode. Also it seems to have stutter every few minutes or so in 24p mode. Do you see it?

A few questions for the TViX:

1. Do TViX upscale 480p videos to 720p / 1080i/p if we play DVDR files/avi files??

2. Does it supports DTS?

3. Which model is the most suitable for 1080p mkv files + DTS, if possible I don't want the model with internal hdd bcoz I already owned a large ext hdd.

4. Where (website/place) for checking the current prices of TViXs in Malaysia?

Are these RTM DTV broadcast in HD? If yes, I don't mind buying a UHF antennae for my TV.

Got serious lip sync (audio faster than video) and stuttering issue with the Celine Dion concert .avi file (XVID 720p) after upgrading to 1.4.46 beta firmware on 4100. Verified the previous firmware version 1.3.15 played with no problem. Anyone else has this problem? How to report this to DVICO?

RX, I didn't rip it, downloaded one lor.. it's really rare to have .avi, the rest are mostly MKV, including the MIMI (haven't watched yet.)

I also copied the file to PS3, but got supported file format error. However PS3 info can shows MPEG4 and resolution info on this file, except audio info is blank. Btw, can I know if PS3 can support .avi file and play DIVX/XVID natively (I thought it started in FW ver2.1 onwards, right?)

I am using Pioneer old AVR, model 2011 or something (7.1 without HDMI). Still lookig for justification to upgrade sad.gif

if you need more storage space, than u can consider to use Synology / QNAP NAS... both support.. tested.

u need to set the correct IP, and the correct folder ( synology /QNAP NAS) in the Divx divice... for PS3, just turn on the upnp and Multidedia function in Synology /QNAP ,than Ps3 will detect.....
