if you need more storage space, than u can consider to use Synology / QNAP NAS... both support.. tested.

u need to set the correct IP, and the correct folder ( synology /QNAP NAS) in the Divx divice... for PS3, just turn on the upnp and Multidedia function in Synology /QNAP ,than Ps3 will detect.....

Using NFS Sharing of QNAP NAS to Set up Home Multimedia Center and Play HD Video

Preface
High-definition (HD) has become a trend in TV, video, and film production. More and more consumers are moving to HD plasma and LCD TV. HD media player is also a must-have appliance for modern home. Now, you can use QNAP NAS to save all these HD video sources and set up a digital home multimedia center with digital media adaptor (DMA).

QNAP Turbo NAS series adopts energy-saving and is designed to work like an electric home appliance. It is an all-in-one multimedia sharing centre which supports varied multimedia sharing, e.g. DLNA, NFS, and SMB (My Network Places) file sharing, and secure data protection by RAID. With QNAP NAS, you can start to enjoy the multimedia data sharing at home in a more convenient way.

You can set up your multimedia sharing system by the following hottest QNAP NAS applications:

1. NFS: Connect Dvico TViX series and Pixel Magic by NFS (NAS Pro series supports NFS).
2. DLNA (built-in TwonkyMedia DLNA): Connect to PS3, Xbox360 or other DLNA compliant media players by UPnP.
3. My Network Places: You can connect the XBMC (formerly named "XBox Media Center") media player by SMB connection.

still using both the 2-bays and 4-bays, all running 1TB hdd on raid 1 and raid 5 config respectively. now enough legroom for the next few years i hope.

must tell u, the new Western Digital Caviar Green series hdd are very quiet. the ts-409 is purring along nicely and silently in the background. the ts-209 are running seagate hdd and are noisier, but still ok la.

Is it possible playback Blueray movie direct from Synology NAS? I m having DS107+ synology NAS now but only using for BT and file keeping. Never think it will fast enough stream to Dvico.
*
yes. you can.

1st , you need to latest firmware Version: DSM 2.1-0832; Build Date: 2009/03/07,
http://www.synology.com/support/download.p...=enu&m=DS107%2B

2nd :

To enable the NFS service ( at synology->file sharing=> NFS), tick Enable NFS and click OK.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

To assign NFS privileges

2.1. Select the shared folder you want to edit from the shared folder list.
2.2. Click NFS Privileges Setup.
2.3. Click Create to add an NFS rule.
2.4. Enter Hostname or IP (this is refer to your DVICO TVIX player IP address) . You may specify a host in three ways:
* Single Host: The fully qualified domain name, or an IP address.
* Wildcards: *, ?, or *.synology.com.
* IP networks: /255.255.252.0 or /22.
2.5. Assign Privilege ( => set to Read only).
2.6. Assign Root Squash ( =>map to guest)
2.7. Click OK to finish.
2.8. Click OK to apply the NFS privileges.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Tip:

To easily find and access an existing shared folder, first enable the access privileges for account "guest",

3rd, at the DVICO DVIX player,

3.1=> go to setting
3.2 => select one of the network drive => select NFS
3.3=> key in the ur Synology NAS IP address, and the Mount path is /volume1/video ( video is refer to the folder which u had store the movie, u can select any folder u like, I just use video as example)

4. happy enjoy ur video/blueray movie.

Note:
if you select SAMBA protocol, you will facing jacking issue when u playback HD/Blueray movie direct from NAS.

User of synology and qnap here. just to share my observations.

(1) d/loading using these NAS as a BT client is painfully slow compared to say a pc-based client e.g. uTorrent. even if u port-fwd, assign fixed ip, open up upnp etc etc, also slow. i reckon the reason is that the client operates under linux (the NAS's operating system).

respond: u may not set the BT protocol encription and also need to set the DHT [also need to set this port at your router] (this will increase about 25% of your current speed) . my house using airzed broadband ( 1m down and 256K up), I can get about 82~97 Kb/s.

(3) the next generation of qnap will have built-in lcd and operating system, meaning u can operate and manage the nas without going thru a pc/notebook. this is useful but will also increase the cost/price. so if anyone wants to pick up a qnap, better get them now (existing models) before they are phased out and become more expensive.

respond : this will depends on the model, 1,2 and 4 bays still not LCD, for 1 and 2 bay, next model will be TS-119 /TS-210 ( Marvell 6281 1.2 GHz and 512MB DDRII memory ) BTW... be consider this : NMP-1000 Network Multimedia Player ( with build-in BT)

(4) my fav is the TS-409. very compact (small footprint) and "to the point". the new qnap AJAX interface, although now still in beta, shows lots of promise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjXUfovhamI

Respond: YES... will be release soon... (now still in BETA 3)

Mind sharing your tweaks. I'm not on streamyx, but I am on a 18mbps line. When I run both QNAP's QGet and Windows-based uTorrent, downloading the same file, the QNAP is about 1/10th of the speed on the uTorrent.

I believe is your setting at the DHT and the encryption

at your download station:

1st ) BitTorrent port range: 6881 :6999

2nd) tick the protocol encryption

3rd) tick using the public DHT network and also set Sharing time after download task completes: 4 hours ( other number also can)

here is the picture for Qnap smile.gif

another one u can try is the port u use... for the BT. in synology or qnap, u can change to difference port.

ISP is getting smart.... so we need to try... but they can't block all the port....

QUOTE(Traveler @ Mar 25 2009, 04:21 PM)
I don't know if this is the best way, but what I did to my 320GB HD (and am currently doing to my 1.5TB HD) was hook it up to my PC via USB (I have one of those Vantec USB/eSATA ports that let you just plug in the HD) and then copied over the files (making sure the HD was formatted in NTFS) using Explorer. It took a long time. A really long time smile.gif

Another way would be to hook up the DVico player to your LAN (wired with Gb Ethernet preferably) and then copy it over (haven't done this yet, so I haven't learned the exact steps yet).

I think you can also hook up the DVico box directly to your PC via USB (not 100% sure, as I didn't really read the entire manual).

Perhaps someone with more experience than me can contribute their experiences about which method is fastest? I am inclined to think that the eSATA method is fastest (I don't have eSATA port on my main rig, so I used the USB connection) and doesn't tie down your network if you are copying large amounts of data (I copied over about 300GB to my 320GB, and for my 1.5TB, I have copied over about 500GB already, with another 300-400GB to go). But if you don't have many files to transfer then maybe doing it over the network without taking the HD out of the DVico box would be less hassle.
*
Hi, traveler,

as you have synology NAS, you can update to the latest firmware (at least version DSM2.0 and above), you can use File station 2, upload the file from your local PC / external HDD to Synology NAS, this will more faster than through LAN ( FYI, one of our customer told about 2 days to transfer 500GB data through local LAN) ( gigabit will be faster but still take time)

after that, you can enable NFS for this folder (your video) and you can start to watch video (event BlueRay movie) direct from NAS to DVICO TVIX.

Thanks! I will try that tonight. Since I restrict access to the Synology NAS (user/password required), can I still access it from the DVico box? Do I need to make any changes in my DVico  settings (they're generally at default)? I would normally try first and post a question later if needed, but I am at work now and can't try it out until later tonight.
*
actually in your Dvico, u just need to set the network drive , one of the Network driver => select SAMBA ( this is ok for normal video but will jeckking when play Blueray Movie as this protocol cannot hannled) or NFS ( this format is faster and can support blueray movie) and put the path to : /volumn1/Tvix ( Tvix is the example folder name for the folder which u store your video)

and u need to trun on the NFS at your synology NAS... without turn on, u only can use SAMBA... and if u try to connect by NFS, the dvico will not showing any video list ( blank list)
