I was thinking of getting the 5100SH for one simple reason : QUOTE In the network function, you can enjoy a movie with no TViX HDD TViX HD can be networked with a PC system using its built-in LAN port. You are able to navigate to a file in a PC on TVIX Boxs network and play the file from its original destination without having to first copy it onto the TVIX Box HD. No need to get HDD..seems pretty useful.

Are these RTM DTV broadcast in HD? If yes, I don't mind buying a UHF antennae for my TV.

A question if you guys don't mind.
Is there a difference betwen 6500 and 6500A or there's just 6500A only? The reason I'm asking is because C-Zone at Low Yat is selling the 6500 and the Dvico website has a 6500A.
I was really close to getting one today but I was afraid of getting an "old" 6500 instead of 6500A..
Thanks in advance!

^ Nevermind..so you buying the 6500A since u'r old one konk already? I guess the only appealing thing about the 6500 is the ability to play Blu-ray rips.. ^htkaki : they quoted me RM1530 (credit card price) yesterday. Still thinking if I should buy it...is it worth spending RM 1530 just to see the words "Dolby True-HD" appear on the receiver? This post has been edited by welwitchia: Apr 23 2009, 02:05 PM

Andy, Sorry if this sounds dumb but how do u upgrade the firmware? The URL on your blog links to a zip file.. do I unzip the file and place it in a thumbdrive or the 6500A accepts the zip file as it is?
Many thanks in advance!

^ Thx.. but should have no problems right? I mean, do I need to update to the "official" betas before upgrading to the "prebetas"? The one that came with the unit is extremely old.. Thinking of updating tonight.

The first thing I notice about the 6500A is the built quality. Its so solid compared to the WD TV (yes, yes.. I know the WD is about 4 times cheaper) and the fact that it can access my downloaded files on the PC is so convenient. No need to copy them into a portable HDD and bring it over to the WD TV.
Gonna sell my WD TV tonight. :-)

The 6500A doesn't support HD-DVD iso. I downloaded a 28Gb concert only to realize its just a complete waste of time.. Arghhh..

^ If u don't have an AVR that decodes DTS, stay away from the WDTV as it doesn't do DTS decoding.
I actually have both. PQ wise, I don't think I can tell a difference between the 2. (I might be wrong though, I think the Dvico PQ is a tad sharper) WDTV interface is sluggish while the Dvico is very fast.
However the best feature about the Dvico is its ability to map shared network folders on your PC. That way, u do not have to keep copying files that you've downloaded into a thumbdrive / portable HDD to play at the WDTV.
Also, the Dvico plays Blu-ray ISOs. Oh.. and u can install a HDD into the Dvico too. Hope this helps.

rx330, u'r URL doesn't work. Is this the one you're referring to : http://www.jcmatthew.com/products/dhe/mp1100.htmlThey seriously need some designers. I don't know how the products fare technically but they seriously need to improve on the aesthetics.

Interface wise, they're about the same. However, I do prefer the fonts in Dvico. and yes, the Dvico is able to bitstream HD audio (Dolby True-HD & DTS-HD MA) to the AVR. The Dvico deal is from C-Zone @ Low Yat. Basically u purchase the 6500a at RM 1599 and pay RM 100 for the 1TB HDD QUOTE(bose00 @ Jun 15 2009, 12:51 PM) Thank you for the info. btw in terms of interace which is more user friendly, dvico or wd ? does the dvico able to decode HDsound format ? 6500A+1TB HD (WD Caviar Green) ? may i know where i able to get this deal ? i am advice to wait if there is a better deal during the AV Fair which is on E/July.

Managed to download "HOME" 21Gb. Played flawlessly on the 6500a although I find the color tone to be too reddish. Don't know if its due to the 6500 or the source. So I had to switch the TV to "Cool" and everything looks good after that. Is there a way to reset the 100 count besides reflashing the firmware? Andyz : Can u provide a link on your blog to v1.3.132 or is there a place I can check regularly for firmware updates? Thanks! Nevermind..Google found the URL : http://demod.dvico.com/PreRelease/tvix_M-6x00_1.3.132.zip This post has been edited by welwitchia: Jun 17 2009, 12:07 PM

New "prerelease" firmware out. 1.3.137 Err..this one doesn't support BD playback. http://demod.dvico.com/PreRelease/tvix_M-6x00_1.3.137.zipQUOTE Changes from 1.3.129 1. Fixed NTP server option is disabled when IP is get properly through DHCP server. 2. Now TV connection type is set to HDMI even if the EDID is not get from HDMI. 3. Imporved Enhanced AC3 stream on recorded streams through a tuner. 4. Network stream performance is optimized. 5. For DTV, fixed the recorded file name is not correctly set for the som Czech stations.
Known issues and limitations for Video related - Some TP/TS information may not correct. - When HD Audio pass-through is on, S/PDIF does not output. - When HD Audio pass-through is off with HD audio stream, the playback is not smooth. ¡Û When DTS audio setting is digital, HDMI audio is ON and HD audio pass-through is set to ON, then audio is not heard on the SPDIF output. ¡Û For the same setting, if HDMI audio is set to OFF, then it sounds through the SPDIF output. - Some TP/TS files may cause the system rebooting. - Some WMV may not play correctly. - The digital output for AAC/WMA is disabled. - Does not support PCM audio track on MP4 now. - TVIX may not get IP from DHCP server after change between DTV and Player modes and this can be solved by retrying DHCP on the setup.
Known issues for Audio and pictures playing - For MP3 files with low sampling frequency, the TVIX might crash while playing or trick play like FF or RW. - M4A files are not supported now and AAC may not play correctly.
Known issues for PVR - After channel changed, you may not here audio in short time. . To work around it, you can press DTV key or Audio key on the remote.
Known issues for general issues - If you play files without refreshing the file list after delete files through FTP or SAMBA server, the system will reboot.
*** If you play files with HD audio tracks like Dolby TrueHD, , Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD MA or LPCM, you better turn on HD Audio pass through on the setup even though you don¡¯t have a receiver that supports decoding of these formats. Otherwise, you will hear strange noise with some repetitive popping noise. Currently, we don¡¯t support core decoding, if you don¡¯t have a HD audio decoder receiver, you need to select other then these HD audio tracks audio track for now.
