to be honest hotels in city centre can merely squeeze up 4 ppl inside
some of them are oni design to sleep oni 2 person/2 single beds
the bed is so small and the corrider is so narrow as well tongue.gif
so i think u should get rooms at outskirts or further from city center but u will need to spend more on transport unless u get the tourist unlimited pass

northasian, thanks for the reply

If so, i think best is take Airport Express to Mongkok, as it is quite late already. Most probably will be staying in dragon hotel.

At the same time i looking for budget accomodation at Hong Kong island, though of staying there 1-2 night. Please advise.

Go to Temple street, its like petaling street. need to speak in cantonese to bargain. i dunno if you think its cheap or expensive, but i think its expensive because things there are 2 to 3 times the price here excpet fast food. Normal 3 star hotels are already 100+ USD, street hawker food is already at least 10 ringgit(cheapest). Taxi fares start at 9 ringgit... etc.
Even housing there is expesnive. but the people there have high wages. But the MTR there is top class. no confusing fare changing, train track confusion like here. just press the place and get the fare. and the announcment on the trian is very clear not like here... cannot hear one.
Remember to get a 25 HKD all day pass for MTR. basically with MTR you can go everywhere... not like here

Yes, 1 day = 3 meals
a wantanmee will settle u around $18-$26 add $3-5 for drinks
or Set A/Set B normally around $40-$60 depends on location or type

The pass can be obtain at any MTR station i guess
i am not sure as i am using octopus card

if not mistaken, there's 2 YMCA in HK
so u need to check which YMCA is that

this is the ordinary room size in hk city center
user posted image
so i doubt it's big enuf to accomodate 4 ppl
or u need to get family suite from Hotel Bridal Tea House link
their price is consider okay for their location and condition

HK is a small place with very convenient and not too expensive public transportaton, I don't suggest you to stay in different places unless you really enjoy re-pack, unpack, and carrying your lugguage to walk in the crowded city.

In HK if you're looking for spacious room with low price, that's almost impossible. Also HK "formal" hotels normally not allow 4 adults in 1 room... Maybe you can try looking for guesthouse/lodge but space will be limited in the room.

YMCA on Salisbury Road in TST even can't be booked at this rate...

Food not really expensive if you know the place. Accomodation depends la.. guesthouses/hostels/lodges would be cheaper.

Depends on what you eat and how much you eat. It varies amongst individual's taste and "size of stomach".

Wanton noodle can be cheaper, didn't you read the blog of Stalkie on #801? He's able to find somewhere to eat $11 a bowl of Wanton noodle with 2 whole shrimp in each Wanton!

There is more than 2 YMCA in HK, it should be 4 in total, if I am not wrong.

Agree with you. Frankly HKD100/day not really enough to "experience" HK's food. Most of the time I have dinner with friends outside cost over HKD100 per person already la.. Of coz not ask you to eat very expensive food everyday during the trip, but sometimes I do think you spend money to go out for trip, you should be prepared to spend and try variety of local food...

If eat those stuff can be cheaper for sure...

Morning - bread, the cheapest polo bao, "gai mei bao", "cha siu bao" is around HKD3.5-5 each.

Lunch & Dinner - Cha Siu Rice at Cafe de Coral or Fairwood, about HKD22-25 each big plate; Wanton noodle in Cha Charn Teng is about HKD16-20 per bowl.

600ML distilled water, cheaper brands cost HKD3-6 per bottle only if buying from supermarkets.

Hi I saw this thread only after I came back from HK. But thanks northasian for sharing the information & tips - very informative indeed.
I think I've covered most of it but just the food part I went mostly street hawker food. I'll know where and what to devour next time tongue.gif

Also thanks Stalkie for sharing your trip blog with us btw, do you have your "family room" picture to share ?

I stayed in USA Hotel for HK300 per night. I don't find those "blackie" scary. I took care myself and no eye contact with them.
I just find the staircase a bit scary at night because it old, slightly dark and spooky I find. Also, the lift doesn't arrive at the floor you want it's either two floor up or down. Anyway, the room is decent and clean but it's tiny- like in a prison LOL. I find it hard to adjust myself. Thank God it was just 8hours per day for sleeping & showering.

Thanks northasian for opening this thread and keeping it alive. Now my research is up to page 25.. sweat.gif and taking notes the relevant bits. Will be my 2nd time to HK, last time I worked a month there for a project. nod.gif

Err.. just 1 question, Do you know what time and days does the Miu Kai temple opens daily? Also, are there flower shops nearby where I can get flowers to offer to that temple? Thanks.
