I will be in Hong Kong from 11th April to 15th April. Touch down in Macau via Air Asia and turbojet to HK. Staying at Shatin area.  blush.gif

Thanks northasian for opening this thread and keeping it alive. Now my research is up to page 25..  sweat.gif and taking notes the relevant bits. Will be my 2nd time to HK, last time I worked a month there for a project.  nod.gif
Err.. just 1 question, Do you know what time and days does the Miu Kai temple opens daily? Also, are there flower shops nearby where I can get flowers to offer to that temple? Thanks.
*
Thanks for your compliments~

Temple Street's flea market opens every day from about 6-7pm, mostly after dark. I am not sure if there is flower shop around and I don't even know where the temple exactly located, haha.. If you wanna worship in temple, suggest you to go "Che Kung Temple" in Shatin or "Wong Tai Sin Temple" at Wong Tai Sin MTR station, or "Man Mo Temple" in Central instead, 'coz these are more popular temples in HK. Also temples here mostly not offer flowers but incenses, you can buy from the kiosks just outside the temples.

hehe.. well I make promise at that 1 Miu Kai temple lor, that's why. It's the temple near the area that has many 'fortune tellers'. I saw 1 sign on the fortune teller booth "Speaks english" , "Accepts credit cards" walaue.. sweat.gif

I will never forget the HK nai char, very 'kau' thumbup.gif . My M'sian colleague asked for another cup to split the nai char and add plain hot water before he can drink it.

Right now i'm worried about the excess baggage. Limit is 15kg check in baggage and Air Asia charges macau $38 per KG!! I'm sure my group will be shopping alot.

Maybe find a 3rd party company in HK that can send our excess back to Malaysia which is cheaper than air asia per kg charges.

You don't need to bring a lot of stuff to HK je?? The most is only a few KG je ma.. It's warm here now don't need to bring thick coat, so you can spare more weight for your shopping goods from HK. Use a less heavy suitcase lor.. also it's not sale season in HK, everything is not cheap so I bet you wouldn't shop too much gwa?!

ic.. you wanna buy miniature models & toys.. yep those stuff can be quite heavy if you bring a lot. Sorry I don't have info on shipping/courier company with cheap rate, maybe you can try contact the local post office to check the price for postage of international parcel.

You're most welcome! biggrin.gif The hostel website do have the picture of the "family room", you can find it in the link provided by me wink.gif

Like I said is not really a family size room... if a person stand in the middle of the room, he/she pretty much block the entire "walk way" of the room... haha....

What kinda buffet you like? As RegentCid said, it depends on your budget. If you're asking real good buffet without a budget, of coz Grand Hyatt Hotel's buffet... about HKD499 per head + 10% service charge. Conrad Hotel's dinner buffet is not bad too, about HKD3xx-4xx per head... Anyway, just pop in any ***** branded hotels, their buffets will not disappoint you for sure, like JW Marriot, Island Shangri-la, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental...etc.

I thought of viewing from the REAL picture instead from the website cos most of time it's very different and may not get what you see from website..

anyway thanks for your reply smile.gif

I have uploaded mine...HKD300/night. As you can see..it's about 2-3steps from the entrance door - too confined for me it's scary.
I dont wish to go back there..

Hi Northasia,

Firstly thanks for maintaining this thread. I will be going for a holiday in HK in mid August 2008. Can i ask a few questions plz?

1. Usually when is the sales of HK? I was told that to go at mid of the yr during HK summer time to buy some Msian friendly clothing..

2. My biggest motif to go HK is to eat!!!.. lots of dimsum, lots of roasted meat stuff, lots of hawker stuff, lots of sweet stuff like HLS. Which district do you recommend us to stay that easy to access to all fine food.. while not too inconvenient and too far from tourist attraction and shoping center? Mongkok area is good? or Kowloon?

3. I heard of the Lap Mei (roasted meat) street where the whole stretch of street is full of roasted meat stall. where exactly the location?

4. Any particular dim sum restaurant i mustn't miss or simply any one of them can kill msia dimsum? the one u linked in the first page seem to be rather "expensive" type.. smile.gif

5. Any must try wanton mee stall?

Thanks again.

Hi exshige,

1. Summer sale usually starts from end of Aug (or early Sept) till mid/end of Oct.

2. Good food is at different places around HK, as I have already mentioned in previous posts, if you've read thru the thread you must have found out that I said only if you stay in downtown, you can access to everywhere with convenient transporation of HK. Mongkok is good. I always recommend people to stay in Mongkok/Tsim Sha Tsui area.

3. Lap Mei = 臘味 = 臘腸, 臘鴨, 臘肉 which is not = Roasted meat. Roasted meat (e.g. cha siu, siu yuk) is 燒味 not 臘味, which one did you refer to? and sorry that I haven't heard of Lap Mei street in HK... maybe you can ask the person who told you about that.

4. The dim sum restaurant you mustn't miss are those I posted on #1 post.. if not I also don't need to post it out, right? Dim sum is around that price in HK, around HKD10-12 for 小點 (e.g cha siu pao), HKD12-15 for 中點 (e.g chicken feet), HKD15-18 for 大點 (e.g 雞扎), HKD20-25 for 特點/頂點 (e.g ha gao). Those cheaper one always located in far away residential area that tourists won't go, if you go there need to spend more cost on transportation & time, I think it's quite waste of time for tourist.

5. If you said must try then it will be the famous and rather expensive one... like 黃枝記 in Central. Actually those ordinary one you found in everywhere in HK are already much much better than those in m'sia.

2. any reason why mongkok is best? we almost book a hotel in yaumatei.

3. sorry sorry.. is not lap mei i mix up... yeah is roasted meat. is there a street will all the roasted meat stall?

4. coz u only link 1 in the first page which is the taoheong dimsum.. i went to the website and look at the picture of restaurant.. it looks like some 5 star hotel restaurant... very different from those found in Ipoh dimsum.. biggrin.gif

the price u qouted is the pricing for taoheong avg price? pricing seems ok not too expensive but ha gao at HKD20-25... is that normal price for all the dimsum shop in HK?
