hi joce, I'm not sure about Aug sale now 'coz economy this year is good, so shops might delay and shorten the sale period. But there are still opportunities for some sale due to Beijing Olympic.

Yep, hotel rate is expected to be very high and rooms are critical also due to Beijing Olympic. Please book your accomodation asap..

HK-Shenzhen about 1hr by MTR East Rail Line.
Sorry x-zen I have no idea..
Please don't spread incorrect info and create unnecessary worry for those who have planned and booked their trip to HK.

Yep it's flu season now in South China areas including HK & Macau, but if you've done preparation then it'd be ok. My advices are, wash your hands with soap more often, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth before you wash your hands with soap, drink more water & have enough sleep to strength your immunity, stay away from coughing people if possible especially in crowded places. If you still scared, have flu vaccine 1 week before your trip.

Those kids died from flu related illness were infected with H1 virus, not H3 nor H5, as per local news. Also, the virus seems to attack young kids rather than healthy adults in this season.
It's NOT SARS. Please read HK news online for more detailed info.

Sep is still very long time from now, and flu mainly happens in Spring, ie. March - April. If HK have flu season throughout the whole year I think 7millions HK ppl will soon be extinct..
I wonder how well do you know about this news?
"Flights and Fuel surcharges are subject to regulatory approval" may means their HK direct flights have not got fully approval from gov't. Also the fuel surcharges may not be approved at the moment and might be adjusted even after your booking is confirmed.

You can ask AirAsia which transfer company they use for your airport transfer. If it's operated by Vigor, they have counters in both arrival hall A & B, it's just located right in front when you walk out to the arrival hall.
AirAsia advertise their direct flights to KL in HK too. The fare is HKD99 per head but I heard the taxes & surcharges added up to HKD7xx already.
Yes it's still very hot & humid in Sep. This year may have more typhoon then usual 'coz of the special climate this year. Watch out for typhoon news before your departure.
Jul not yet started crazy sale. Even if there is any sale, the discount rate will not be very high.

Don't worry, it'll be super hot during Aug, the hottest month of summer!
yep, sale would starts in Sep.

hmm...i guess the flu season will goes off very soon...don't worry guys... blush.gif

Yes, this is usual, especially under current fluctuate oil price, airlines have the right to request for an increase or decrease in fuel surcharge subject to gov't approval. After the approval, the airlines will set a date to differentiate if your ticket have to pay the extra surcharge or not (e.g. ticket issued after xxx date have to pay the surcharge difference)

I can't say the crazy sale will definitely starts in Sep, but in my experience, the later the crazier, i.e. Oct will be further sale, also due to Oct 1 China National Day, the sale will usually be crazier.

About the fact that HK is in flu outbreak season, it is true. However, newspaper and TV news didn't advise even healthy people to wear masks when going out. So, if you tell people here bring along mask when visiting HK, this will only make those didn't read the news panic and worry if the situation is that worse like SARS period in the past.

We are happy that forumers who have been to HK can share anything they know, they experienced, they saw, they heard and they read, but please keep your info be objective. It would be more helpful if website links about the info & news shared to be posted as well. Thank you.

If for fashion, shop in no-brand shops lor... this kind of shop don't have big sale even during season end..

I can't tell if it's good idea or not, it depends on what you want from the trip...

Weather is fine, not very hot even it's hot already.

Sale, I don't think so 'coz it's just the start of summer...

Yep, it's not such a big deal indeed... HK is not that sick, it's just a normal flu seasonal outbreak in a year.

Yups, booked on the 12th March but the hotel is very expensive leh.
One night is RM406 for a 3-star hotel. So, all in my package is RM1050 per person for 3 nights inc flight tickets.

Now, I'm thinking whether it's worth to purchase the Octopus Tourist Card or just the normal Octopus.

I'll be staying in Stanford hotel, Mongkok. I took the Air Asia package.
I was in quite hurry to book that time without doing much research.
After I've booked, only I saw your list of budget hotels on the first page.
A bit regret but can't do anything about it now. sad.gif

Thanks for your help in providing lots of info abt HK in this thread. It's really really helpful esp to ppl going to HK for the first time. I only read till page 20 as of now.

As for the Tourist Octopus card, I can only know whether to buy it or not after I plan my itinerary and list down what are the fare for each destination. Moreover, I'll be taking the airport express in Tsing Yi, so it might not worth it if I take the Tourist Octopus cause that's the nearest station to airport.

I do not know what are the alternatives to go to the airport other than airport express.
Perhaps I have to check with the hotel on how much they charge for the airport transfer. The hotel only provide one-way free transfer.

If the difference is not much, then I dun wan to take the hassle to take the airport express esp carrying a few luggages.
Cause based on the MTR map, I have to interchange quite a number of stations,
May I know from Mongkok, the only route to connect to the airport express is as follow?

Mong Kok -> Tsing Yi (interchange at Lai King) (19 mins) - Fare: HKD 6.60

Tsing Yi -> take Airport Express to Airport - Fare: HKD 45

I'm planning to drop by Tsing Yi station on the way to Tung Chung, to check out how to take airport express and also shop at the Maritime Square. Can you pls. tell me whether I can take pictures of the Tsing Ma bridge at the Maritime Square?

Also, may I know whether the shopping centres in Central, Causeway Bay and Admiralty are within walking distance? Or I have to take MRT every stop?

And, any recommendations for delicious and "not too expensive" food in Mongkok?

Don't feel regret la, hotel is better than budget hotel ma... you pay for what you get..

Your hotel transfer is for Airport -> Hotel or Hotel -> Airport? I suggest you don't need to buy the Tourist Octopus Card, this can free you from the pressure to use MTR as many as possible and thus ruin your mood to enjoy your time in each spot. Other than Airport Express, you can take E21 from Airport, and get off at Argyle Street in Mongkok. There will be quite a walking distance from there to Stanford Hotel, about 15mins+ walk with lugguage. Again, from your hotel to Airport, can take E21 as well, but it will be even farther away.. Bus fare of each way is HKD14. You can refer to www.citybus.com.hk for bus details, and www.centamap.com for walking direction. But I can tell you it would be quite tough to walk with lugguage in Mongkok 'coz it's DAMN TOO CROWDED!! Even I live here I would avoid going out to these places too often...

If the difference is not much, then I dun wan to take the hassle to take the airport express esp carrying a few luggages.

Yes, this is the fastest and most direct route.. Interchange is not a problem in HK, we got escalators between platforms in different floor, not like Japan... Somehow it would be better than you walking with lugguage on ground.

I'm planning to  drop by Tsing Yi station on the way to Tung Chung, to check out how to take airport express and also shop at the Maritime Square. Can you pls. tell me whether I can take pictures of the Tsing Ma bridge at the Maritime Square?

No, from Maritime Square you cannot see Tsing Ma Bridge.

Also, may I know whether the shopping centres in Central, Causeway Bay and Admiralty are within walking distance? Or I have to take MRT every stop?

You can walk between these places but it takes time. So for you as a tourist, I would suggest you take MTR or Tram. Tram costs HKD2.20 each ride. Also, if you are not a luxury brands lover, I can tell you just to skip Admiralty if not enough time. Shopping malls in Admiralty are for the branded stuff only, Central also.. But if you wanna visit the Hong Kong Park (in Admiralty), Lan Kwai Fong (in Central), then can go ahead.

And, any recommendations for delicious and "not too expensive" food in Mongkok?

Most food in Mongkok are "not too expensive" already... There are a lot of "Cha Charn Teng" in Mongkok, Yau Ma Tei, Jordan, Tsim Sha Tsui, just pop in anyone of them to try out local taste la~ Not too expensive, about HKD30-40 per dish, but always very big portion, and you gotta read Chinese menu. Also there are lots of hawker food stall near Ladies Street in Mongkok, try them out la~

No budget accomodation there. There are only Regal Airport Hotel (at airport) and Novotel Citygate in Tung Chung, but both are 4 stars hotel not budget one. There are 2 hotels in Disneyland, both are over HKD1K rate per night.
