This is merely a guide i compiled from all the info i found across the web. I'm not the original author for any of the intellectual work. Give credits to the author whenever you could. In fact, you should always do so. But those who still want to thank me for making this guide, you're welcome tongue.gif

Please read & re-read any instructions included in any tutorials (the README file is there for a reason) before posting any unnecessary questions. Please play & re-play any video tutorial before asking. I've made this to be as simple as possible.

And most importantly, do this AT YOUR OWN RISK and enjoy!

1. Jailbreak

- Jailbreak 1.1.1
> Head to jailbreakme.com on your Safari browser
> Tap on Install AppSnap
> If successful, your iPod would now have a InstallerApp on the home screen
> Here's a video tutorial for it

- Jailbreak 1.1.2
> Prerequisite: A jailbroken 1.1.1
> To downgrade a 1.1.2 refer here
> To jailbreak a 1.1.2 refer here

- Jailbreak 1.1.3 & 1.1.4
> Get the latest ZiPhone
> Tutorial? Go here
> Another tutorial can be found here ** Contributed by Mike3300 **

2. Applications

- To install an application:
> Tap on the Installer app icon on your home screen
> At the bottom of your screen, tap on the Install tab. All the applications are listed here.
> Simply browse to desired application, tap on the Install button located on the top right corner of your screen

- To update an application:
> Should there is an update for an application that is already installed in your iPod, it will appear under the Update tab
> Tap on an update, and simply hit the Update button, also located on the top right of your screen

- To delete an installed application:
> Tap the Uninstall tab at the bottom of your Installer app screen
> Applications that are installed in your iPod is listed here
> Tap on any of application you want to get rid of your iPod, and tap on the Uninstall button at your-know-where-already

- To add/delete a source:
> Tap on the Edit button located at the top right corner
> Notice that the Refresh button at the top left corner has now changed to the Add button
> Yes, obviously, tap on the Add button
> Type in the repository address and tap OK
> Similarly, to delete a source, after tapping the Edit button, a red icon beside each source name would appear
> Tap on that lil red icon, and a Delete button would appear. Tap on the Delete button.

- Enabling the Wiggly icons & Web Clip (a.k.a January Update) features:
> Prerequisite: A jailbroken 1.1.3 or higher
> Go to your Installer app, add this source http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml
> Under the category iPhone 1.1.3 Apps, install the package

NOTE: I've taken out several sections that were previously here. I'll make a new guide for Summerboard and Customize if there is a request (or when i have time) for it.

Mac users can now follow the guide above. All the jaibreakers are now either automated, designed for cross-platform or OTA.

Two thumbs up for your efforts! Definitely interested to mod my Touch when I get it and I'll jump to this thread.

On a side note have you done all this jailbreaking under Windows XP? I am on Windows Vista and my music collection is on this system. Was wondering if:

1. Jailbreaking success on Vista? So far I have read its quite iffy
2. Whether I can jailbreak on XP then jump back to Vista for normal things e.g updating songs.

Thanks in advance.

1. Forget Vista. I still use XP to flash my phone , etc. Dont trust that crappy Vista. The next thing might do on you is give you a dialogue box saying that 'ey , YOU ARE CRACKING SOMETHING...Please beware that we will call PDRM for you. Thank you'

2. Yes ...Do it on XP...then use Vista for normal things

Yep yep! Quickly mod it and post up ur Springboard! LOL i might be a bit biased but the whole reason i got mine jailbroken is for the Springboard!

Anyway to answer your question, i jailbroke mine in Vista with touchFree and it didn't give me any trouble. If you are still worried, do the things you said on #2. That's still fine. Good luck!

Hey guys,

I found a one-click Automatic iPod Touch JailBreaker but I don't know where to post so I'm gonna add in here. Sorry if I jacked your thread. notworthy.gif Well its not exactly one click but follow just this one program's instruction and you'll be able to jailbreak and get that Installer into the Springboard.

Step 1
The usual crashing of Safari browser via TIF exploit.
Point your browser to http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com

Step 2
Go to this website http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1954
Download the Automatic iPod Touch Jailbreaker. Unzip it and execute the Jailbreak.bat batch file and follow the on-screen instructions.

I suggest you register yourself with that Forum and check out the comments and issues encountered. Also there's a YouTube video instruction here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuVUmmNG_HA

If it works for you, please thank the original author and put this into the 'main instructions'. Thank you once again and good luck!

Hey there, no worries. Not a problem posting your findings here. Glad that you did, actually. But i've actually already posted that up. It's the same as the Basher's iPod fix.

Anyway, i updated post #1 item #5 and i realized that the site don't handle .png images quite well. It gave black background to the images i uploaded. So i couldn't share more Custom carrier icons with you guys because their text is in black. And giving them a black background meaning you'll see nothing at all because these icons have a transparent background. Anyone knows how we could overcome this, eh?

So sorry about that. Should have verified it first. I was streaming videos from YouTube and I found this method which I was comfortable and I thought I should share. Looks like its a duplicate.

By the way, I have done all the mods and have installed some iPhone softwares then I realized my iTunes isn't detecting my iPod Touch anymore. Did I do something wrong and should I start from scratch? Thanks

Yeah its functioning great. I've got some applications on it already. But occasionally these applications would crash and exit to the springboard. Wonder why... I've set all the permissions properly on each files and subfolders. Anyway I'll restore again and try again. See if my iTunes is detecting it properly.

I've bumped into a few threads at the jailbreaking scene that a few people are encountering lost of iTunes sync after jailbreak. Some mentioned renaming of files and folders are necessary before using iTunes but did not specify what to rename.

I'll repost once I get this fixed. If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Thanks!

Problem solved. Its due to the iTunesHelper.exe which I permanently disabled on startup. Below services must be enabled for full iTunes application functionality:

1. Apple Mobile Device
2. iPod service
3. iTunesHelper

Cause I have a habit of disabling services manually when I don't need them. So be sure to re-enable iTunesHelper.exe after finishing jailbreaking sessions.

No lar. Mine took 2-3 hours (jailbreaking and installing programs) provided everything goes without any problems and you understood the instructions. Otherwise its restore again and again.

Actual jailbreaking process wont is not long. It only took me about 10 minutes or so. Summerboard is a bit tricky. I restored a few times cuz i screwed up tongue.gif restoring should takes about 5 minutes only.

Basically whateva files u copy into the touch need to be set to 755.

I'm afraid that you'll need to have a wi-fi connection to be able to do that. Even installing an application would require a wi-fi connection.

It should by right saved to Photos and would appear the next time u sync your iPod. But i didn't get that. So what i do is i FTP into the iPod, go to Media -> DCIM -> APPLE 100. All your screenshots go here. Right click on the file, and click Open. WinSCP should be giving you a warning now but just click OK to dismiss it. When your screenshot open up, right click on it and click copy. Paste it anywhere you want to. So there you go, your screenshot. There is a way to do this using SSH but i thought this is even easier for me LOL.

I hope u get what i mean. i wanted to include some screenie for you but my ipod cable is in the room and my grandparents are sleeping so i didn't want to bother. LOLx.

Honestly, I still chicken out to jailbreak mine. Btw, from the installer we can find, download and install right away apps from the iPhone? You know, all those Maps/Stocks/Weather/Mail/Notes/etc.

Does it necessary to install Summerboard thing? All I want was just to add some of the iPhone apps, that's it.

After jailbreaking, the iPhone applications (if I'm not mistaken) aren't available from the Installer App. You're supposed to install them manually by copy and paste via FTP. You have to download the applications and then manually replace the folders into your iPod Touch and then setting the correct permissions. Stringsfellow made a clear instruction on another thread. I suggest you give it a try.

The other 3rd party applications are all available from the Installer App. I think this is a brilliant idea in converging all the programs into one place for easy installation without the need of a PC.

I think you can skipped the Summerboard if you're not interested in the themes. But you need Summerboard when you install a lot of applications and running out of place for icons. In fact a lot of jailbreaking routines out there has integrated Summerboard installations in it. Try touchfree.

create one for myself? shouldn't the dock have done so for me? anyway just want to confirm the octal code for it. is it 0755? my other folder in DCIM happens to be .MISC (0700). hmm.gif
*
yes it was supposed to but in the event that it didn't create one for you, you'll have make one yourself. If i'm not wrong, the .MISC folder is a hidden folder? I don't have with me my sync cable so i couldn't check. But i have left the folder without changing any of its properties. it shouldn't matter whether it is set to the right permission or not as far as the screenshot thingy is concern. In fact, there are plenty of default files in the touch are in 0644 and they don't give any trouble. The basic rule is to set the permission to 0755 for new files that you copy over to your iPod.

just tried creating a folder, still doesnt seem to do anything when i use the screenshot function from the dock. might try to reinstall the application to see how it goes. and yes, the .MISC folder is a hidden folder and as far as i can see the 0755 is a recognised code for the ipod touch. nod.gif

Btw, the only thing the iTouch has to use WiFi connection is just to the website and crash it right? The rest that requires internet connection is our PC?

Added on October 20, 2007, 7:16 pmIs there any storage affect after jailbreaking/installing apps gonna take some space right?

yes to your first question, and no to your second one.

jailbreaking/installing apps hardly takes up any space, you probably won't notice a difference. im also pretty sure you're using an 8gb touch since space seems to be an issue that's bothering you but all i can say is, im sure that you won't regret it after having to go through the hassle. brows.gif

bluechip, i just got home to sync my iPod and i apologize for my earlier mistake. the folder you should create is 100APPLE (exact spelling and case). The structure is MEDIA/DCIM/100APPLE
Hope it will work for you now.

Dont know about you guys, but my screenshots goes to this directory :-

/private/var/root/Media/DCIM/100APPLE

Creating /Media/DCIM/100APPLE does nothing in depositing the screenshot into the folder. Whenever WinSCP logs me into the iPod Touch, it loads me up to /private/var/root.

All screenshots from Dock would go to 100APPLE folder. If it is absent, it is necessary to create one, manually. All the iPod touches would start at /private/var/root because that's root of iPod touch's directory. It is as if the 'My Computer' in Windows.

Yeah, i know that. But your words " The structure is MEDIA/DCIM/100APPLE" would imply creating subfolder 100APPLE within folder DCIM within folder MEDIA, from a "/" directory to start from. Clearing this up would help understanding it better.

ever noticed the springboard.strings file is different in the itouch from the iphone - the file you posted on your first post is different by quite a bit...

I tried changing 'slide to unlock' and it worked just fine. Just worried the different string file will cause some problems unnoticed yet

You can change the Springboard strings within Customise. This beats editing the .strings file using a text editor.

There is a Customise fix i did , from one of the posts in iPodtouchfans.com, cant really recall which thread. The Fix basically batches the Customise.app, and made it to work with the Touch. You may wanna refer it there, because IMO , the .strings edit using Customise is a much more elegant solution, with text entry ala settings entry in your iPhone. Your call.

If you did it as per the link i provided, the entries to set up Mail.app should be in the Setting screen.

In the host name field, simply enter the IP address of your iPod touch. Can find it under settings on your Touch, in the wi-fi section. Click on the blue arrow next to your network SSID for the details.

I dont know about your installation, Gilthoniel, but on mine:-

I go to Settings --> Mail --> and here is what i have:-

Accounts
--GoogleMail >
--YahooMail >
--Add Account >

Message
--AutoCheck ====Manual>
--Show ====50 Recent Messages>
--Preview ====2 Lines>
--Minimum Font Size ====Medium>

and so on.....

To create another POP mail account, i'd go to Add Account-->Other, click the [POP] tab, and enter the details.

To edit an existing Gmail account info, tap the name of that account (mine's "GoogleMail") under the Accounts column, and edit away.

To add another Gmail account, tap "Add account" and follow the prompts onscreen.

Dont you have these?

oh man... this is odd. I find using this iPod harder than any of the mobile phones I've used so far. must be the lack of sleep from all the work with the album covers...

hahaha. sorry for the blurness bro but thanks a million for all the help.

i'm back in my room in KL where there;s no wifi so no safari-ing at home until i get to some starbucks or coffee bean.

No worries. I got into it quick because i've got the iPhone to mess with before the Touch, so jumping into Settings was instinctive. I'd reckon to new users that would take time adjusting.

Have a good rest. I know i needed that when i was housekeeping my audio collection. tongue.gif

I seldom use Apollo now, seeing that there are other web-based apps that can do better. They are Meebo and Beejive. Try them on at www.meebo.com and iphone.beejive.com respectively.

Holy cow, I didn't realize that restoring to factory settings still needs a 100MB+ download. So guys, do all your stuff properly and treat the Restore as your last resort. I've learn my lesson but I'm happy that a one touch solution to jailbreak is finally here. smile.gif

Yeah, if your PC have not downloaded the update 1.1.1 before, it will go through that lengthy process. Once the file is downloaded, it'll be on your PC so the next time you do a restore it will straight go for that file unless of course there's a newer update from Apple's servers.

if it doesnt appear, just do it again until it does what the website says...

i think it's because their servers are too loaded with everyone jailbreaking their touch and iphone...

lokgotz,

Did u update the installer.app after jailbreaking using the link?

Mike, how do you use WinSCP and ftp to your touch? how do you set it up?

Am I suppose to see something at the home screen once I install BSDSubsystem and OpenSSH?

I think I finally got it. I've installed the new SummerBoard version instead of the old one like zc had for the tutorial link. Im wondering whether I should do it manually again?

After you've connected to a WiFi router, go to Settings>WiFi>Choose your network and press the mini left button and get the IP address. Then from there, start a new session on WinSCP with the host name after your IP address. Username and password set to: root/alpine. Then login, you should see two separated columns, one is your Windows Explorer and the other is your iPod's system files. From there, drag and drop to the right place.

I think after installing apps from Installer, when you press home button it'll bring you to the Slide To Unlock screen.

Doesn't want to mod my iTouch's look, just wanna get iPhone apps/useful apps so can't help you with that sorry. Someone else? Good luck! I've failed twice, waste my 2 days. sad.gif

Note for you guys who want to avoid the hassle of installing SummerBoard...

Just click on the link that Mike3300 gave to jailbreak your ipod touch. To avoid the hassle of installing SummerBoard as mentioned in the first post, make sure you chose to install SummerBoard version 3.0a11. You can find that once you jailbreak your touch and have installer in your homescreen.

I just install that SummerBoard version 3 and I do not need to go through the hassle in the first post. I just restart my touch and install a new theme and wala....it's fantastic!!

I have got the fully-automated, web-based jailbreaker link posted up on the 1st post already. So does that jailbreaker pre-install summerboard for u or not? pspfan say it doesnt but charlton says it does. I don't use that so i don't know.

But anyway u could manually install summerboard. From the installer.app, it should be latest version by default. If not, just update it. We gotta update from time to time anyway when they release a new version.

SummerBoard is not pre-installed. Still got to install the package from the installer. It's just that the new version does not need to go through the hassle of FTP SummerBoard files into the touch anymore.

ok, to some mac user, i followed ths instruction i found online and it worked on my touch to install iphone app. simple, straight forward instruction. here u go:

"kay, here is a guide for those who wants to get iPhone apps on the iPod touch

first, download this file:

http://www.sharebig.com/share.php?id=s4bcbekqmkJEHKPB

OR

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GN9CKYJX

After unzip, there are eight files / folders in total, and place them on your iPod Touch as follow, replace if prompt.

**IMPORTANT, change file permission to 755 via ftp or ssh. REMEMBER, all files in folders and subfolders have to be in permission 755 for the apps to run properly**

Weather.app, MobileMail.app, Stock.app, Maps.app, MobileNotes to /Applications/

GMM.framework to /System/Library/Frameworks/
Framework for Maps.app, MobileMail.app (Not sure if MobileMail need this tho, but I have GMM installed before installing MobileMail)

N45AP.plist to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/
The file above is for enabling the add / edit calendar events

MobileMailSettings.bundle to /System/Library/PreferenceBundles/
The file above is for MobileMail's accounts setting

Best advice for transferring the folders and files to ipod touch:

Use some FTP client that supports SFTP, in this way, permissions could be applied easily without a fuss. For Os X, use CyberDuck, remember to check the box "Apply permission recursively". For windows, try WS_FTP, it should work like cyber duck

Reboot and enjoy

A method to resolve crash in windows (By mepman)
If your apps crash then login to putty(http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/.../x86/putty.exe)
with username: root & password: alpine and type the following.

/bin/csh

/bin/chmod -Rf a+x /Applications/*

Similarly, using terminal in OS X, ssh to your iPod Touch, and type the above"

i'm not sure if this was posted before. good luck

pointed my mobile safari on my ipod touch last nite to jailbreakme.com and hit 'install' but nothing happened. it just forwarded me to another page with something like conceitedsoftware.com which appears empty. my ipod touch just sits there and after a short while goes to sleep as per usual. when i switched it back on, its exactly the same as before. is there some secret keystroke that i am missing?

as far as i know, you have to use wifi to jailbreak.

go to any free hotspots (eg. starbucks)
u can use safari in ipod touch to jailbreak by going to www.jailbreakme.com and it will install an app call installer.app
this app is abt 6mb if i am not mistaken. but be sure that u have good connection.
my first few try at my gf's hse with weak signal, it didnt work.

good luck

Hehe, don't forget Ebook is pretty useful as well. We don't need the big bulky Sony Book Reader, just use your Touch cause it's pretty small and nice in your hand. Fit well in your pocket as well.

What you mean normal function, is it features? Yes. Jailbreaking is just opening up a locked door to install other 3rd party applications. You break a locked door inside your house but you can still live in there.

hey does jailbreak have some sort of application that will allow you to change your equalizer settings?(hopegully a decent gui 5 band?).I'm kinda sick of the lame default eq settings that are provided for me on my touch.

If there is one please post a link here...Thanks!

The only unresponsiveness i experience is the quick music control panel (hit the Home button, twice).

And I would like to take this opportunity to warn all of us here NOT to update to iTunes 7.5 and firmware 1.1.2 yet. You will stand a good chance ending up with a RM1.5k paper weight if you decided to go against this advice.

Apparently the new iTunes 7.5 would update your touch to 1.1.2. So if you've jailbroken your iPod, you are strongly urged not update. Any ill-effect of this update is not known yet but it is very likely that it will brick your iPod. As for stock (new) iPod touch, you may not wanna update if you have intention to jailbreak your iPod.

It seems that the new batch of iPod touches would come with 1.1.2 firmware pre-installed. So if you are planning to get your iPod now you may be out of luck with jailbreaking.

Jailbreaking is safe and by no means could brick your iPod, if you could follow the instructions properly.

I'm already running 1.1.2 after restoring my Touch yesterday. It's a 150MB update again and I noticed slight speed in performance, Calendar now can add event (which is Mr. Jobs said it was a bug and will be on the next update, it's true and thank you) and lastly some new languages.

If you couldnt' find your media_sym folder, it probably means that you sync-ed it using a PC .. and therefore, the file system isn't exactly as the same. Therefore, your "Media_sym" will be your "root" ..

just make sure you go to the root or first directory.

as far as i know, you have to use wifi to jailbreak.

go to any free hotspots (eg. starbucks)
u can use safari  in ipod touch to jailbreak by going to www.jailbreakme.com and it will install an app call installer.app
this app is abt 6mb if i am not mistaken. but be sure that u have good connection.
Meaning, having WiFi connection and go to www.jailbreakme.com, i can have jailbroken it with installer.app installed
into my iPod Touch without using PC/Mac at all ? All merely using iPod Touch + WiFi + No PC/Mac required ??

Pls clarify... I have PC, but no WiFi Router at home sad.gif

Added on November 17, 2007, 4:35 pmoh yaa... those who already jailbroken & installed 3rd-party Apps, care to post up how NOTES and MAIL looks like ?

I wish to JailBreak mine (v1.1.2), but still waiting for the availability of WiFi router... unless, can JailBreak without PC/Mac, then i'll straight away go ahead with it !

can't wait for that.....

Added on November 17, 2007, 5:48 pmI had updated my iPod Touch to v1.1.2, must i downgrade it to v1.1.1 before I can actually JailBreak it with "www.jailbreakme.com" ?

If need to downgrade, how suppose to go with it ? Or RESTORE will back to my original version v1.1 ?

Pls help.... I wanted to JailBreak mine long time back, but 1st need to figure it out and gather all the information needed.

for my case... so far so good, or should say even better... cos more extra features can be added into iPod Touch !
Added Apps from iPhone v1.1.2 (Mail, Weather, Maps, Notes)... even others like To-Do-List, games...
too many.... i'm sure u'll be happier than what you have currently (the default iPod Touch Menu !)

Happy JailBreaking... icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

hope it helps.

You just need to jailbreak and have Installer. If you're running 1.1.1 then just go to jailbreakme.com over WiFi and you're good to go.

What firmware you're running? Only 1.1.1 can run jailbreakme.com

Settings>General>About> then scroll below to see firmware version.

running 1.1.1 (3A110a) after downgrade. tried a few times already & it's always stuck at the page "Loading"...

i also tried going to jailbreak.toc2rta.com first before going to jailbreakme.com...Safari does crash as expected, but jailbreakme.com still gives the same result as above.

Sometimes that jailbreakme.com server downs, so depends on luck and WiFi strength does play a role in it. Good connection equals good progress. Try again a few times other days.

to me, i think it has nothing to do with which batch of production, most importantly
is the iPod Touch Firmware (v1.1.1), Internet connection....
all these make it works !

hope you will overcome this problems...

finally got it jailbroken via jailbreakme.com *phew*
but rather than going to the main page itself, i loaded the actual download's URL instead : jailbreakme.com/files/y.tiff (if i remembered it right)
worked on 1st (re)try

hit another couple of snags during the actual jailbreak tho...

1) windows.bat did not run
- Rather, the MS-DOS Command Prompt came up for a split second & closed in a split second
- Solution : i realised that it was cos i didn't have the latest Java (v6.3) installed in my computer...apparently installing it into Firefox doesn't count in Windows Land. gotta install on IE. pffft.

2) "Cannot connect to device.....................blahblahblah restart computer blahblahblah"
- I followed ipodtouchmaster's video step by step, closed iTunes & killed all the related processes (AppleMobileDevices, iTunesHelper, iPodService), even restarted the computer as advised by the error message...no dice
- Solution : everything went fine & jailbreak succeeded...when i did not check on "Install SSH", though in the video he said to check that option. hmm.gif

so now my question is...what's the "Install SSH" for? so far, all my 3rd party apps work fine as far as i can tell. though i can't figure out how TTR works. i tried the iPhone apps like Mail & Google Maps, both work too.

Install ssh, will install secure shell protocol in ur ipod, this is use when you want to transfer manually files (themes, apps) into your touch using cuteftp for example. Otherwise you will get error like "connection refused".Anyway you can install openssh from the installer.

what do you mean by internet access sharing, is it ICS (Internet Connection sharing)? If you using wireless broadband router just connect your adsl modem to you router WAN port. The modem should in bridge mode.Setup all your adsl password and username in the router.

hahahhaa.... i've also changed mine few days back only.
it's located at \System\Library\CoreServies\SpringBoards.apps\English.lproj\StringBoard.string if i'm not wrong....
it's kinda cool... change it to whatever we want !

May be this week.. i'll try to change the CHARGING image.... if only successful. I prefer to do it manual way rather
than using CUSTOMIZE to change it.

Still trying to figure it out first before actually change it....

If yours only Modem+Router, means you don't have the WiFi feature for your modem.
You may need to have an Wireless Access Point (AP), then configure it and then you will
be able to connect to Internet using your iPod Touch WiFi features.

Note : You need a WiFi modem router / Modem Router+AP if yours is NOT wireless modem router, hope this helps.

Yeah you can definitely change it. If you managed to change your Slide To Unlock text, it wouldn't be hard to change the battery indicator.

actually it does leh...but as long as you remember to reset the iPod before bringing it in to the service centre (if possible), i.e. revert to factory setting to get rid of the jailbreak stuff. then you'll be fine. if Apple finds out you've jailbroken the set, then they can choose to not fix the iPod. or they will fix it, but at a price.

They will release SDK tools for developers to develop new apps for iPhone & iPod touch on Feb 2008. There's still no news about free apps officially and legally by Apple, maybe we have to pay.

Added on December 14, 2007, 10:41 amThe more Apple release updates, the more that they're trying to cover the TIFF patches/exploit.

What are the do more in Mails that you think iPhone has much features? Haha, don't say KL cause even search for Malaysia it was listed as Unknown Location. While Singapore is a small country heck even Google Maps knows the country. You can try to pinch in and inner to get to the exact location. smile.gif

Hey Guys,

I have IphoneBrowser running and I still couldn't find the folder containing all my Photos. Is the software not usable to get my pictures or I wasn't looking at the right place. I've clicked every folder in there but it's still the same.

all they have is the template.

ermmm...not sure what is touchfree, but as far as i know, so far all the jailbreak techniques require downgrading the firmware from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 first & then use OktoPrep after jailbreaking, then upgrade back to 1.1.2 & then jailbreak one more time...in a nutshell.

Hmm..Touchfree is basically doesnt involve any pc when jailbreaking, juz after u downgrade to 1.1.1 u log on to jailbreakme.com on ur ipod touch, then iz done.
BTW, i've found the correct-still-working-source for 1.1.1, if any of u guys want a copy...let me know. And maybe i can post it up and then TS can UPDATE this thread...
(still haven't jailbreak yet...couldn't find a wifi hotspot dats working!!! ohmy.gif)

from the ipodtouchfans forum, it seems that if you plug in your touch to iTunes, and click check for updates, it will show that 1.1.3 official f/w is available. do note that this f/w pack DOES NOT INCLUDE the 5 apps.

Regarding the 1.1.3 firmware, unless you have USD20 to spare, i'd say don't bother to update at all. For those who just got their iPod touch shipped with 1.1.3, you can downgrade it to 1.1.1 and jailbreak it. Here's how. Note that i've never downgraded a 1.1.3 before so make damn sure that you know what you are doing. I only simply provided the link. Or, you could always wait for an easy jailbreaker for 1.1.3. I believe it should be out soon enough.

Hi echo, i connected thru UM's network too, strangely mine automatically direct me to the login homepage.
But lately i couldnt connect to the network, it says it cant find the host, r u facing the same problem too?

to install ipod apps, just add the source to the installer, then go to "install" and choose whtever apps u'd like to install (this is the way of installing apps WITHOUT using pc)

yup, that's your picture files. If you remember when you're syncing your pictures, the pictures are converted into .ithmb format, and it is saved in a folder which is called iPod Photo Cache, inside your pictures . Only these files are synced into your device, not the original JPEG ones.

btw if u re using OSX, here's your chance to convert the ithmb files:

http://www.cs.unm.edu/~kwiley/software/kei...hotoReader.html

it will convert into PICT file.

yup, that's weird. myb we better start with clean firmware installation.
1st u need to grab iPod Touch firmware 1.1.1 from:

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/co...0a_Restore.ipsw

and then u need the iPHUC (i got from http://rs201.rapidshare.com/files/84165505..._downgrade.zip)

The steps can be easily followed from the readme.txt text file in the downgrade kit. Or if u want more details, just hit YouTube and search for iPod firmware 1.1.3 downgrade. Or maybe this can help:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YakjwxB3nQU

after done downgrading, run again jailbreakme.com exploit. And be patient around a few seconds or maybe minutes as it downloads the appsnap. and yeah, after it restarts for the last time, it's already jailbroken.

mmm...in case u want to go to 1.1.2, make sure u've manually downloaded firmware 1.1.2. Install OktoPrep first on your phone, and then Shift + Update in iTunes. Select 1.1.2 firmware path. Enjoy!

Hi expert here,

Mine already jailbroken..but 1 thing b4 i "fully satisfy"
with my thouch is..how u guys make "two home screen"
without having to fill the 1st home screen to full of icon?

Mine can only go to 2nd home screen (by swipt to left) when 1st one full of icon..
Maybe after install summerboard i guess..

and is it possible for us to drag around the icon?

in Summerboard there's an option to clear the last line of icons, so it can limit icons to 4X3 instead of 4X4 icons. To rearrange icons u can use Customize.

But remember though that Summerboard is not compatible with firmware 1.1.3. But if you purchase the Apple USD20 January Software Update you can rearrange your icons as you like, even you don't need to fully fill the first homescreen to get next icons to next homescreen. It's total control. It's great!

Define convenient and easier? smile.gif I mean, how much easier could it get? It's pretty much a one-touch thing using iTunes, unless of course you don't have an iTunes account with credits? Perhaps they should consider selling the upgrade in box packaging at retail outlets, ehh? smile.gif

The 1.1.3 jailbreak is out. Here's the tutorial:

Part 1 and Part 2.

However, please be reminded that this jailbreak method is not absolutely perfect yet, but it is the best out there so far. Or you could always wait for DevTeam to release their jailbreaker. I'm sure they'll do a better job.

I just transferred few movies into my iPod, and then came the method for 1.1.3 jailbreak. How sad.

That Locate Me works in Google Maps?

the 1.1.3 jailbreak i used does not affect my content. all my songs, movies, tv shows, podcasts are still intact after the jailbreak.

locate me sure won't work in Malaysia as the wifi spots are not mapped to any database.

The easiest jailbreaker so far jailbreak you iPod plus installing all the new 1.1.3 features and apps. And this method is more recommended than the previous method i posted as this is based on the so-called 'official' jailbreaker by the renowned Dev Team. Here's the instructions:

1. You'll need a jailbroken 1.1.2 iPod touch.
2. You have had the latest Installer.app installed.
3. Open SSH installed on 1.1.2
4. BSD Subsystem 1.5 or greater. 2.0 being the current version.
5. Go to your Settings > General > Auto-Lock and set to "Never"
6. Make sure your iPod is plugged on to a power source during the jailbreaking process.

And finally...

7. Add this repo: http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml to your Installer.app

And as usual, do everything at your own risk.

yup, this is the method i used this afternoon. waited 1 hr, Installer looked "stuck". then ipodtouchhacker told me to do a manual restart and Voila, jailbroken to 1.1.3 with the APPS installed. rclxms.gif

ehm... i'm still on 1.1.1... any chance of upgrading to 1.1.3 without losing any of my stuff?

Added on January 29, 2008, 11:51 pmnvm... have to restore the ipod. sigh

tried removing summeboard and the iphone apps manually since i installed them earlier manually via sftp.

somehow the ipod got stuck at the apple startup screen and wouldn't turn off...

gonna restore and then jailbreak from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3

I believe the correct error code you're referring to should be (1604)? If so, reinstall iTunes and reboot your PC. It should work fine after that wink.gif

i don't exactly know the reason as well but i've kept my iTunes at 7.5 and will not upgrade till the 1.1.3 jailbreak is not buggy.

I succesfully upgradeded mine to jailbroken 1.1.3. the thing is, all
previously installed apps (such as psx4all, summerboard etc.) gone..

Is it normal guys? I can still see the apps listed in Uninstall section in installer btw.

yes it is normal. you should have uninstalled the apps before jailbreaking. i uninstalled some but not all so now my summerboard is stuck and cannot be uninstalled (anyways it is unsupported in 1.1.3). but i could uninstall Books, TTR and games and reinstall them back from installer. it should work again.

Yup..same as mine..
Summerboard is the only problem..
Without it we cant change the theme unless
using FTP client right?
Why should i miss the important step..haiyyaa..

Added on January 31, 2008, 1:31 pmFor anyone who have the same problem as me (Summerboard stuck after 1.1.3 upgrade) can try this
solution (using FTP Client):

1. First backup then edit the private/var/mobile/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist file to remove the summerboard program. just remove everything from the first <dict> to the last </dict> for summerboard only.
2. Backup then edit system>Libary>Core Services>systemversion.plist to change the version number from 1.1.3 to 1.1.2.
3. Restart phone then install summerboard again.

You should now be good to go!

I found it on Hackintosh.org Forum.Thanks to Sabad66!!
Please be aware that I never try this method n do at ur own risk smile.gif

Hi all..

Thanks to all of you, now i am a happy owner of an Ipod Touch 16G (OTB 1.1.2), jailbroken to 1.1.3 with all the extra apps. Have been experimenting with all the wonderful things that can be done with this ipod for the last 2 days.

All is working well, except for these few things that i hope the sifus here can help me out (or point me to the right direction).

1. The mail apps works fine on the first day, but on the second day i notice whenever i want to fetch my emails it just stuck to "Checking for emails.." and nothing happens. This happens to all email accounts that i have (pop, gmail). Have tried to delete the accounts, create a new one with different emails but still the same. Any clue why is this happening?

2. Installed today the latest summerboad for 1.1.3 (Ver 3.1-1) from the installer but i cant see any way to activate it. The status at the bottom keeps stating "inactive". How do i activate it?

3. I have notice that i have to reset the clock twice already because the clock is showing the wrong time.

4. How do i disable the auto suggest mode when using the keyboard to type something?

Others than that, i'm pretty much a very happy ipod touch owner, and would be glad to help any other new owners..

Thanks again.

stupid installer update killed my installer app. so i had to restore back to 1.1.1 and jailbreak again.

given the 'instability' of the jailbreak for 1.1.3 at the moment, i have decided to stay at 1.1.2 jailbreak for now.

Bout iTunes 7.6, i jailbroke my iPod touch (John Lennon 1.1.2v) using iTunes 7.6, i did read bout the "rumor" bout the 7.5 too, but i thought it was too troublesome so i did not downgrade it, the freeze (caused by iTune 7.6) was juz a rare cases of a few so, shouldnt worry bout that.

successfully jailbroken from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 using ijailbreak.com's method. easy as pie as everything is automated but the ipod froze a few times scaring me. However, seems like it's normal behaviour.

1. Never encounter such a problem. Tarak tau lah boss...

2. This apparently is a common issue with Summerboard on 1.1.3. Many suggested to completely reboot your iPod and it should work right after.

3. Mine kept resetting to Cupertino. I reckon it is a bug. It's gay. I hate it.

4. There isn't a default option to disable it but there's a fix for it. There's a package called 'KB Fix' or something available in Installer.app under 1.1.1 Tweaks.

Thanks zc_squash for the info. Appreciate it.

I guess Summarize can wait, the default is good enough for now. And the KB Fix thing works, except that you will lose the double tap space for the dot (period). Maybe a new version will fix this later.

I'm still annoyed by the mail apps problem. Well the gmail thru safari works great though..

for the summerboard problem. Just hold down on your power/sleep button and turn off the ipod. And then turn it on again and summerboard should be active now.

Why do you need to jailbreak anymore? The reason why people jailbreak is because of the apps. You already have it, officially and legally too.

Yeah that's exactly my thought also.

Was jailbroken to 1.1.3 using the ipodtouchmaster guide (video guide here) - Dev. team version + iphone apps.

Btw, mine is Ipod Touch 16G (1.1.2 OTB).

ok, then it was the same one i used too. i read forum postings that those who had summerboard problems seems to have used the iptm's method. using the Dev team's original jailbreak seem to work better with summerboard 1.1.3.

Ok.. i noticed that too. Most with IPTM jailbreak also seems to have the mail problem too, which is what i really want to use.

Well, i'm currently halfway thru jailbreaking using the official dev team 113 jailbreak.

Does this method includes the extra 1.1.3 apps (mail, map etc)? If not what is the best way to add the apps later on? IPTM has it in his repo, but i'm afraid i will still have the mail problem. Thnx.

i can't help you there. i was so frustrated with the bugs in 1.1.3 jailbreak that i restored back to 1.1.1 and jailbroke to 1.1.2 again only.

now happily using the 5 apps (ok la, my maps no hybrid mode) and other apps that work on 1.1.2. won't be trying 1.1.3 anymore until the SDK is released.

exactly..the best thing so far is stick with 1.1.2..
if still want to use 1.1.3 with "fancy" wiggling icon try not to use
ipodtouchmaster method (if summerboard is ur no 1 best friend) and using dev team official 1.1.3 upgrade is the best solution so far..which work fine with latest summerboard
(with some minor issue)..

me once using ipodouchmaster method but hv trouble wif summerboard.
Now im trying dev team method back from scratch..
jailbreaking itself is part of the fun rite? biggrin.gif

what firmware is your ipod Touch running? is it 1.1.3? does it have the 5 apps installed (mail, stocks, weather, notes, maps)?

jailbreaking is about "adding" the ability to install 3rd party applications to make your ipod touch even more fun to use.

I've jailbroken my iPod touch to 1.1.3 and now it's running great so far. Btw, after I've done that, my space is 7.27GB instead of 7.37GB which is the actual space I should have. I checked on iTunes it stated that 100MB+ is to others. I wanna clear the remaining files. Anyone know how to use Boss Tool?

anyway u need to connect first your iPod Touch with iTunes. only after that we can proceed to transferring songs, installing jailbreak etc. etc.

mmm...after connect the iPod Touch to computer via iTunes, it will show your firmware version on the iPod Touch page.

Create a folder and dump the photos you want to sync in it. In iTunes, select your iPod touch. Go to the Photos tab, choose 'Manage photos manually' (or something like that i can't remember). Choose the folder you've created earlier. Sync. Done.

For 3rd party application, you may browse Apple 3rd party web application. You need not to install anything. I don't jailbreak mine to avoid warranty issue. You may find entertainment, games, search tools, news, sport, travel, etc. softwares here. However, you need to connect to wi-fi to access these.

There would be more application softwares coming out early march, after Apple release SDK (software development kit) to its vendors. Hope most of the softwares will be free.

FYI, you may view problem/solution in apple discussion. Link is here

Cheers

When i say create a folder, i mean create a folder within Windows, not in iTunes. To have your movies in your iPod, do it as how you do it with your music. Your movies will appear under the label Movies, just like your songs in Music.

@Mike

Which jailbreak method did you use? I re-jailbreak my iPod using ZiPhone and my iTunes show 20+ Mb is already used. I've got no experience using BossTool

EDIT:

I just installed BossTool and moved the fonts to the other partition. Probably that would help you too.

The movies must be synced to your ipod touch via iTunes. also, make sure it is in ipod touch format too (m4v for purchased vids or mp4 for converted vids).

after successful jailbreaking, you can install apps via the Installer App on your springboard (ipod touch launcher) or downloading the apps from the internet and using an ftp client on your computer to copy the apps into your ipod touch. if you are not sure what you're doing, i suggest just installing via the Installer first.

the concept is :

from 1.1.1 > install jailbreak 1.1.1 > update 1.1.2 > install jailbreak 1.1.2 > install 1.1.3 via jailbreak.

unless u can run ZiPhone on your iPod Touch. some report it can be used, some not. so it's risky (not that risky, just it will be a mess)

Added on February 19, 2008, 3:22 amjust check the youtube video from TouchMaster and u'll get the idea.

- There's an even easier way to jailbreak now and it doesn't even require a computer.
- No user interaction is needed as well.

Helo forumers,

i'll get myself an ipod touch after my spm result release and hopefully it is good

but, i have a few quesiton regarding it

1) if i buy an ipod touch now, it is firmware 1.1.3 right?
2) i read most but not all post in this topic already, people saying 1.1.2 is better than 1.1.3, meaning i have to downgrade my new ipod touch?
3) will jail breaking void the warranty?
4) if anything goes wrong, all of them can restore to stock default setting right?

thanks biggrin.gif

1) Yes, look for John Lennon as the featured album cover. That's the latest and newest batch with the five apps preloaded.

8GB RM1339
16GB RM1739
32GB RM1999

2) Don't worry about it, you can run 1.1.3 with peace of mind. But so far you can't jailbreak 1.1.3, but soon you can.
3)Yes, but you can just restore your iPod's firmware if anything goes wrong.
4)As above.

No problem. smile.gif

What I mean is you can jailbreak to 1.1.3 from 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 firmware. Just that you can't jailbreak when you run 1.1.3 firmware right out of the box.

You actually can jailbreak 1.1.3 OTB. Use ZiPhone. Although some argues that it is optimized for iPhone, not the iPod. I personally used it and don't find any problems - yet.

Btw guys, is the fact that jailbreaking your iPod can make it loose the sensitivity of the touch screen. Restored mine to 1.1.2 and sent to service centre cause my iPod has touch screen problem.

The technician called me up and said it's doing good. sigh~

...but I don't think that jailbreaking can cause this problem, I'm sure we all know well about Apple's first batch products.

Check the first five figures at the serial number, for example:

ABC1267789987-12 is the week.

They were polite so no problem about that, now have to wait 7 working days for my new replacement unit. Good luck with your iPhone. smile.gif

I've had a friend jailbreak my 16GB iPod Touch which now has all the 5 apps working fine. May I know if anyone has been able to add KLCI (Kuala Lumpur Composite Index) into the Stock app? I've added Hang Seng and S'pore Straits Times Index but have been unable to find KLCI. What are the key words I should try? I've already tried KLCI, KL Composite Index, Kuala Lumpur Composite Index, Bursa Saham, Bursa Malaysia. Is there a specific keyword? Thanks

I've updated the 1st post. It is now focused solely on jailbreaking. I'd like to see more people sharing their icons, themes, mods, etc. Then probably we could have another thread (or just continue it from here) on customizing the iPod touch =) Cheers.

How long it takes for you to download 16XMB files by using WiFi ?
Does it hang up after 45 minutes by using iPodTouchMaster method as mentioned ?
Or it ran smoothly when you upgrade it from v1.1.2 to v1.1.4 ??

pls share... thanks

I've used that method too, just leave it for 3 hours max. My ADSL modem didn't blink, if blink means download. Then leave 30 minutes and manually hold power+home button to restart. After that, a jailbroken 1.1.4.

It's not hang, but it looks like it is. Just restart and you're in 1.1.4.

To be honest, for about 90% of the apps out there is not compatible with 1.1.4. Even 1.1.3 is about 70-80%.

Even with the latest one (2.6b)? I kinda heard of it but never tested it myself so i guess i've forgotten to mention about it. The newest version is the 1st OFFICIAL version that supports the iPod touch. So maybe any of us here could give it a go with the 16gb and 32gb versions and let us know?

i dont know about the newest, but from the itouchfans forum the success of jail breaking an itouch 16 and 32 is extremely variable. thus the somewhat incompatibility.

i hope the latest one works well

summerboard and customize works on my 1.1.4 8gb touch

I follow this guide by iclone (LINK):

01 Restore 1.1.4 and give your ipod a name
02 jailbreak with ziphone 2.6b (doesnt matter if itunez is runnin)
03 Installer
-BSD Subsystem 2.1
-BSD Subsystem 2.0 Termfix
-SUID Libfix
-Community Sources
-OpenSSH
-Term-VT100
-BoosPrefs
-BossTool

XX Relocate Ringtones, Applications and Fonts using BossTool in the same order

04 Customize
04.1 SSH into Your Ipod using WinSCP (password is "alpine", first login takes 30-45 sec = ignore 15sec msg)
04.2 go to /private/var/root/
04.3 create a new folder called "Media" (without "")
04.4 Open WinSCP Terminal and run the following commands, hitting enter after each line

CODE
cp -R /private/var/root/Media /private/var/mobile/
rm -r /private/var/root/Media
ln -s /private/var/mobile/Media /private/var/root/Media
cp -R /private/var/root/Library /private/var/mobile/
rm -r /private/var/root/Library
ln -s /private/var/mobile/Library /private/var/root/Library

04.5 Add Source To Installer:
dan.ecct2.com/testrepo.xml
danimator.techdocrx.com/testrepo.xml
04.6 Install Customize 5.3 (Custom Edition) from Danimator's Repo
04.7 Install Customize 5.3 Theme Pack
04.8 Leave Installer

05 Summberboard
05.1 Add Source to Installer:
ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml
05.2 Install Summerboard
05.3 Install SummerBoard Fix (from SummerBoard Fix)
05.4 Reboot iPod

06 Install 1.1.4 Applications
07 Enjoy

It won't brick, I was thinking the same back then. But now, jailbreaking rocks and if you got problems with your iPod just restore it to original state. It'll be fine then.

I don't think I have any luck with iPod Touch.
This is my history:
Feb 27th - Got the iTouch 8GB from my company as a prize.
Feb 27th - Found 13 stuck pixels
Feb 28th - Send to Apple Service Centre for DOA claim.
Mar 3rd - I called Apple Service Centre and only then I found out that they did not find any stuck pixels, claimed it was the screen protector
Mar 3rd - Went to Apple Service Centre, point and show all the dead pixels and got a reply of "Eh, how come all my engineers never saw any earlier? ok, will send in for DOA warranty.
Mar 10th - Call to check on warranty status. No good news.
Mar 12th - Call to check on warranty status. Unit at kastam.
Mar 14th - Call to check on warranty status. Unit is already with DHL.
Today - Unit sent to my office. Happy but did not bring the Sync cable. Reach home, plug to PC, check for stuck pixels, DARN!! 3 very obvious even at 50% brightness. Here we go again.

I tested the stuck pixels using a Black picture @ 100% brightness.
Any of you guys having the same problem?

Sorry to hear that but iPod Touch should not have ANY dead pixel at all and most of the iPod Touch I've seen has no dead pixel. Guess you have to go through another round of that.

Hope that you're be getting one cause what you've paid is very much though. I mean over a thousand ringgit device with a crappy customer service is just plain lousy and dumb.

My first time sending my iPod, they claimed it was fine. After using for 1-2 months plus, problem still arise and sent for warranty service again. Luckily got a new unit, some said that most replacement units for the iPods and iPhones are refurbished units... but no choice, at least we get a brand new and most importantly for me, it works!

just wondering..
so many iTouch owners here, none of you had stuck pixels?

This is how i detect stuck pixels.
Create a black, navy blue, blue, yellow, red, green jpeg file, and sync it into the iTouch.
Then turn on the brightness to maximum and scroll thru the color jpegs..
Doing this in total darkness will help.

Oops.. should I be even talking about this in this thread?
TS: Sorry if its not allowed.

If for the same album, you can select all and copy only an artwork. iTunes then assign to all songs.

Replied using iPod touch.

Jailbreak=means hack in iPod touch/iPhone community.

In iTunes at your iPod menu, for example: Revamperz iPod, click the arrow at the name and it'll show you the music/videos/podcast/audiobook menu.

Except for the marware wallet that might cost a lil more in retail stores, the other both free gifts are bloody cheap stuff.
I worked in one of gadget stores before, so yes i know.

1.1.1 is the starting point of firmware, it's buggy and crap but if you wanna restore to fresh state and this is the firmware to downgrade too. 1.1.2 is just some bugs update while 1.1.3 has slightly additional features and 1.1.4 is the latest and the additional features are wiggle and webclips. It's also the best firmware up-to-date.

You can install lots of stuff after jailbreaking like games, instant messaging client, VOIP (requires alot of work btw), and many more apps to enhance your iPod touch.

Alot of you guys PMed me regarding on how to jailbreak your iPod touch on 1.1.4, I'll list out the method for your reference. By the way, it's a hard jailbreak and proven stable by alot of iPod touch users including me in iPod touch community forums.

~Jailbreaking 1.1.4 with iPhone apps!~

QUOTE
Warning: You will loose all of your medias and third party apps so make sure you backup your files before proceeding!

1: Restore your iPod touch to a fresh state of 1.1.4,  for this just click Shift and hit the Restore. If you don't have 1.1.4 firmware, you can download it here (right click>save as): 1.1.4. Firmware Save at your desired folder and remember where you save them cause when you hit Shift+Restore, you're locating your firmware.

2: After you see the mini window that your iPod has been restored to factory settings and this message window will shutdown in 15 seconds, just click OK and don't proceed anything on iTunes infact just close iTunes after that.

3: Now run this modded ZiPhone by David (iPodtouchMaster05), you can download it here (RapidShare link): Modded ZiPhone After unzipping the .rar folder, click a file called jailbreak. Let it do it's thing, it should be done in less than five minutes and it's normal for your iPod touch screen to flicker/scroll thru some weird white messages.

4: After it's done jailbreaking & patching, your iPod will reboot and after that you'll have Installer on your home screen but you won't see any of the five applications yet. Now, you gotta need WiFi connection. Go to Installer, install:

-Community Sources
-BSD Subsystem
-Open SSH

Now, it's time to install iPhone apps by David's (iPodtouchMaster05). Go to Sources tab in Installer, then tap Edit and Add: http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml Click Done and after it refresh the sources go to Install tab and find  iPhone 1.1.4 Applications then click Install. After it's done installing, it'll restart SpringBoard and you will see Slide To Unlock screen, proceed and there you go. All five of the iPhone apps plus wiggle/webclips/lyrics/chapter support. Enjoy your jailbroken 1.1.4 iPod touch!~  smile.gif

Thanks to David for his wonderful contribution and credits for making this a success!

What To Do If Your Wi-Fi Doesn't Work.

QUOTE
Many people complain that they get an error saying: "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server," although they have full signal. This is a common problem, caused by the way iPod handles the Domain Name System (DNS).

To test if this is your problem, enter this into the address bar: 72.14.207.99

It should load Google. The reason that this works is because DNS is what converts the URL (what you enter into the address bar) into the correct IP address. By directly entering the IP address, you eliminate the need for the DNS.

Here is how you fix this:
1) On the Springboard, go to Settings> WiFi
2) Tap the blue arrow to the right of the network's signal strength meter
3) Delete everything in the DNS field
4) Copy everything in the Router field to the DNS field so it looks like this:

user posted image

Now go into Safari, and try to load a page. It should work by now.

If that doesn't work, and you are at somewhere other than a home or personal network, there is a good chance that there is MAC address filtering. A MAC address identifies the device to the network and if there is a filter, only specific devices will be allowed to connect.

what will happen if i restore it using 1.1.2 firmware instead of 1.1.4?
will it brick the ipod touch?
cuz i wanna try a software that is compatible with 1.12.

Nope, you gotta need a 1.1.4 fresh restore and you don't need to downgrade anymore. So start from 1.1.4.

It won't brick but you gotta enter your iPod into DFU mode in order to downgrade it. If you wanna try installing 1.1.2 3rd party apps, then stay at 1.1.2.

I just got my iTouch 8GB with no Dead Pixels.. smile.gif
Jailbreak it straightaway using ZiPhone with success.. thumbup.gif
installed some apps but sometimes it says memory getting low, please delete some photos to free up space.. I've not even put in any music/movies/photos...
Any idea why is this happening?

If you open your iTunes and check on the space status, your Others highlighted in orange means all the jailbreaking stuff and iPod touch only limits apps till 80MB so you probably over limit it. Just go to Installer and find Boss Tool. Then relocate your fonts and restart, you should be able to install lots more apps.

Glad to help although there's a little glitch, ahaks~! Add http://twenty08.com/installer into your repository Sources in Installer, after refresh go to Install tab and find twenty 08, then download Mobile Chat. It has GUI just like iPhone's SMS and it works really well.

i downloaded & tested too many converters program already,
i cant recall the name, will update when i go home biggrin.gif

one of the best converter, i'd say
it is a freeware & no restrictions
(tired of those 5 minutes converting restriction, or 50% restriction, some even 30% only)

Most people recommend Videoera that needs to be on9. But I want those that can do the job even when off9, if it's free then even better.

I am using Allok too but different version. Nice.
Can cut movie into parts. But once cut, audio and video do not sync sometimes.

So I am trying other alternative......
Anyone tried WinAVI? wonder which one is better.....

to yawhong : never encountered that problem before.

to everyone:

i found one website that is quite interesting.
we can share music + picture / stream music n picture from our pc on the ipod touch.

to download the software n install in the pc
access the page from ipod touch

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

voip calling n receiving on ipod touch.
sorry for my english.. sorry for the audio quality, sorry for the sideways camera, sorry for everything.. haha
just wanna share something nice

-making calls using voipstunt.com ( topup 10 euro, n you will get to call any landlines in Malaysia for free for 120 days.. n some other locations too.. US, canada, newzealand, Japan big2 country.. hehe.. malaysia also consider big .. haha)
-receive call using ipkall
-bought the mic for 50usd ( quite expensive.. )
-for the time being, dun really recommend people to use, cuz
1. my voice sampai to the person i called on time, but their voice sampai at me like .7 seconds later.
2. i dunno why, but their voice can only be heard on the left side of my earphone.. ( not earphone defects )

so maybe just wait for a month or so, they will figure out how to solve the problem.

Thanks to David for his wonderful contribution and credits for making this a success!

yo mike, thanks for the guide.

today i messed-up with my ipod touch, a slight panic as this was my first time tongue.gif

i did the DFU mode, manage to restore back everything, next i follow the jailbreaking guidelines posted by mike, easy step, and i successfully jailbroken my ipod touch biggrin.gif

one thing is, i have to re-install back all my favourite apps. oh well, i treat that as a leisure la~!

That's not an app. It's a feature that comes built in with 1.1.4 firmware.

After restoring fresh from 1.1.4. it doesn't give you the features yet, you have to install the January Software Upgrade first. After the 5 new apps are on your homescreen, try and touch any icons again. Either jailbreak it and install of Installer or buy the apps, just jailbreak it.

book lets you read ebooks, you can dl them off the installer

customize does what the name says, it lets your further configure your pod then SMB

another few

tap tap revolution - its a game something like a really simplified guitar hero

emulators and roms, gpsphone for example

openssh - lets u use winscp

bds subsystem - a must for app compatibility

services - imp app if u got open ssh it lets you off and on it

winscp- install this on your computer it lets you transfer files to your pod

all the above are imp in making some apps run (emulators) for example and dling themes and stuff to the pod. thing is YOU MUST NEED A WIFI CONNECTION TO DO IT. cept for bsd which you need it anyway

no, it has scratch resistant screen the difference? it can take a little amount of bashing but not a lot, keeping tons of keys and your ipod together in a loving embrace in your pocket would obviously scratch it.
