Ok sorry about that.
I am 86kgs (167cm) right now, with almost 50% of it is fats (pretty sad).
My long term goal is to get a good body shape, with nicely build muscle.
Short term goal is to reduce 10kgs soon (maybe in 3 months or less, i am not sure about this).
My plan now is to reduce 5kgs 1st.
Currently forcing myself to get up, and go to gym, trying my level best to achieve 6 days per week of cardio (hope i can make it).
Maybe any of you can help me, with the calories calculations, and how it is related with the fats in my body. Is the amount that im burning now (considering i do cardio everyday) can i lose 5kgs soon?
My diet, i cut down a lot on my rice, very less portions. Can say 1/4 of what i use to eat, more vege and still got meat at times.

don't worry... by opting to exercise and control ur diet, you will lose that extra weight soon.
But only until certain extent, you will reach a plateau, then you gotta adjust ur diet again if you wanna lose somemore.

losing weight = calories in vs calories out.

You burn calories even if you sleep the whole day.
How much calories u burn is dependant on a lot of factors (ur metabolism, age, gender, mass, daily activity etc etc)
So if you're eating less than what your body requires a day, you'd still lose weight even without exercising.

Losing weight is like 70% diet & 30% exercise.

Exercising helps to burn more calories, so of cos the more you do it, the easier it is for you to meet the calories out > calories in requirement.

But if you're thinking of exercising like a madman and at the same time eat like a pig, it won't work.
Putting on calories is way easier than burning them off.

You didn't put on the weight in few weeks' time, so don't expect to lose it in a few weeks too.

Jones is right... your body will always try to find ways to save more energy so that you can survive longer.
It's just how we're created. You will burn less calories after getting used to a certain pace, so it is advisable to increase intensity to shock ur body. Your body is smart but you gotta outsmart it man laugh.gif

Well, i do weights little after my running and steps(more for my chest). At times i do cycle. Yeah, my prime is running.
I plan to alternate cycle, steps and running, so that my body wont just get use the same routine.

Went to gym in the morning today, did weights before i do my cardio. I was feeling tired still, maybe due to yesterdays game. I had to vary my speed a lot today, to cope my target of 310kcal. I feel like i cheated a bit, as i at times reduced the speed to walking speed. Cant help it though, it was tough day today. Hope i can do better tomoro.

Bro, if u had an intense Game the day before, dont do weight, do it the next day. if not u gonna suffer putting too much stress on the CNS. schedule your weightlifting days nicely to avoid over trainng and to maximize efforct and result

compound exercise = multi joint exercise = squats, deadlift, bench press, bent over row, dips, pull up.

do these rather than doing your tricep pushdown on the machine. if u dont wana do squats do leg press. work your legs man.

Dead Lift, squat
cycling 200kcal, running 200kcal.
Pretty tired after the muscle training, but i pushed on with my cardio.
On the dead lift....do i have to carry heavy? I did with a weight i felt comfortable, but still can feel the pain in my legs. Feels good after that. :-)

My thigh, i did not measure it. Its big as not in all as muscles, im sure there is fat there stored as well.
There is a cable machine to do deadlift, i am using it. I believe im doing it correctly, as i have seen people doing it. Seen them doing using free weight to do deadlift and not the cable.

Ok.
I have seen before people do deadlift in competition. Usually they use a bar, with weights, thats the common way of people doing deadlift. You can of coz do it with cables as well, its the same, in fact you have more control when your are using the cable.
this is almost how i do it.

Last time, me too, but you gotta do what you gotta do, yanno.

Breakfast is an important meal. If you're too lazy to cook or prepare in the morning, just do it the night before. A simple pre-prepared chilled tuna sandwich or chilled cooked oats with almonds & raisins in the morning will help jumpstart your metabolism and help you burn more calories throughout the day.

Maybe you can start with a glass of milk?

Measurement type: Previous reading | Current reading

I am happy with the progress. Motivates me more.

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is the pain or discomfort often felt 24 to 72 hours after exercising and subsides generally within 2 to 3 days

according to researches, light weight training can relieve soreness faster as more blood flow into the muscle (and bring in more nutrients) for recovery. anyway, it is ur body and u know it better biggrin.gif

i will try RPM tomorrow thumbup.gif

Measurement type: First Reading before workout | Previous reading | Current reading
Weight: 86.1 | 83.5 | 81.1 (Exactly 5kgs!)
Fat %: 54.++% | 47.2% | 44%

I am proud of what i achieve now. I have to still go on.

Well my biceps are pretty weak, cannot carry much. So started with low weight.
And was in RPM class today.

Yup you are right, i am actually keeping my eyes on my fat %. I am happy to see the % drop, than weight drop.
I am still doing weights, but not intense yet.
I will try to increase the intense of my weight training slowly. But definitely, i still need long long cardio work to do.

why weight training > cardio in burning fat.

QUOTE
Not Lifting Things Off the Floor

I'm not going to go into a diatribe on EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption) and its role on fat loss. Okay I lied. I am going to go into a diatribe. It's my article so deal with it.

If you haven't learned by now that "intense" resistance training is FAR superior compared to long duration aerobics or steady-state cardiovascular exercise in terms of TOTAL caloric expenditure in a 24-48 hour period, than you shouldn't be surprised that you still have the "skinny-fat" look.

It's quite the paradox, because if we compared a 45-minute cardio session to a 45 minute resistance training session, you're apt to burn more calories minute-to-minute doing cardio than you are lifting weights. That's why most people are under the assumption that cardio burns more calories overall and is the most efficient approach to fat loss (along with restricting calories drastically too low). However, what many trainees don't take into consideration is EPOC, which are the calories you burn AFTER you train.

What is often neglected is the fact that you have to look at total caloric expenditure in a 24 hour period, NOT just what you do while at the gym. How many calories you burn during a training session plays a small role compared to the total number of calories you burn in the 24-48 hours afterwards.

In one study, a group of people did a sample full-body workout consisting of four sets of ten repetitions and another group did nothing but steady-state cardio. Both group's energy expenditure was monitored during the workout and over the next 48 hours.

The steady-state group did expend slightly more calories in the 45-minute span compared to the resistance-training group. However, over the next 48 hours the resistance training group burned an ADDITIONAL 700 calories above baseline in addition to what they burned in the workout (compared to roughly 50 calories for the steady-state group). How do you like dem apples?

start doing your intese weight lifting with your cardio. preferrably on alternate days

I took a measurement today. The frequency of my work out is reduced to like 4 days. But i can still can see some results.

Measurement type: First Reading before workout | Previous reading | Current reading
Weight: 86.1 | 81.1 | 78.5 (Lost 7.6kgs)
Fat %: 54.++% | 44% | 42.5%

I am happy with the measurement, though the Fat% seems dropping rather slowly.

20Nov2007
Weights for chest, bench press.
400kcal of running, ~4.7km
100kcal another cardio machine (dunno the name though)

Eat banana. Easiest. Or other things that give energy. Will give you a big boost of energy.

Keep doing those RPM's man. It works really well as not only you burn about 500plus calories in the class, it will increase your metabolism for hours after (like lifting weights) because it is a form of interval training.

Keep it going mate.

Anyway, try to ingest more protein.

For e.g consuming more milk, eggs as a source of protein for muscle recovery and growth.

With that, you might be able to reduce more body fat instead of losing your precious muscle(fat burner).

Anyway, you are doing great so far.

Just keep on progressing.

Learn more new compound exercises if you got the chance.

For e.g Squat. It's simple and beneficial for your fitness goal.

Good luck mate!

erm...lol i dont know how to increase the intensity....maybe you can try increasing the number of repetition in your set of push ups...

lol....resistance wise...i really dont know how to increase the resistance of your push ups...maybe wear a back pack with some books in it when doing push ups...gives you some resistance...but thats just my 2 cents only...

no lar...i long time also didnt do push ups already...my chest routine is just bench press saje...dude..why not join the gym...can do banyak types of chest exercises thumbup.gif

Hi guys... happy day for me...as i achieve my short term goal of losing 10kgs.
Credit goes to my hard work and definitely you guys who motivated me and also teach me to do, what i suppose to do.
notworthy.gif

My statistic

Measurement type: First Reading before workout (7 Oct 2007) | Previous reading (20 Nov 2007) | Current reading (6 Dec 2007)
Weight (kgs) : 86.1 | 78.5 | 75.9 (lost 10.2kgs)
Fat % : 54.++% | 42.5 % | 38.4 %

My next goal, would be getting muscles, and still focusing on cutting down my fat%. I want to have a leaner (not too skinny) but well toned muscles.

Ok, lets see what i did today.
Today i was doing weights for my shoulder
Military press, Arnold dumbbell press, bentover dumbbell rear delt raise, front and side dumbbell raise.
15mins of running, ~2.4km.

Cheers guys! Comments are welcome. wink.gif
(would prefer if any of u guys got some advise about diet, as i am still in strict diet)

You might wanna state in your journal on what are your meals like. I see other people posts like that.
Easier for people to comment on your diet.

Anyway.....Congratulations on your great progress. rclxms.gif

Today did weight for triceps.

Well, not a happy day for me. Did the measurement today (latest in my 1st post), seems like body fat remains the same and my muscle mass+water contain in my body dropped. That makes my BF% to be increase a little. Sighhh....
I need to do more weights i guess and reduce my futsal session.

Dont worry. There are a lot of variables involved when measuring your bodyfat with the machine. Mainly hydration level.

BF machine reading fluctuates 2% a day. Dont sweat about it too much.

And he was like...you body weight....bla bla....explaining (i did not even want him to explain to me anything...)

Fitness Concept and Isetan sell them. Old model, way overpriced.

It only helps for a couple of months. After all the novelty disappear, you'd only want to weigh urself once a month.

10kgs...u can lose it in approx. 9 weeks.

Dont you want to see fast results?

Supplements? nope...when i was cutting on my fats. I just cut on my meal, into half of what i use to consume.
You can take vit E, carbo block if you want, but your cardio is very important.

Protein shakes with casein can make you feel full for a long long long time. Look for micellar casein instead of calcium caseinate and try to find Milk Protein Isolate (cheaper than pure mic casein) if possible.

If not just take whey + milk. Kenyang biggrin.gif

Its been a very long time since i updated my log in here.
Actually I had been working out as usual, just that i did not update in here. Here is the summary of my work out for past month.
I head to gym almost 5 days a week, and 1 day of full cardio. Sometimes due to work commitment i reduce the 5 days of workout to 4.
I had been focusing on some of my body parts, especially my chest and my shoulders. So, i do most days of workouts for my chest. End result, i can really see some results on my chest. Feels satisfied to see in changes in your body when you invest your time and effort.
I had been neglecting some other parts like my back and legs. So, i plan to focus more on my back and my biceps(looks small) too!! About my leg, i have to master some my squat (which i try to avoid), yeah its not easy for me. But i hope to try to do it slowly and get the technique right.
I also had not measured my body fats, i hope to measure it and hope it had gone down. Finally, i will try to update more info in here.
For those who are trying to shape up, keep on going and make it a habit to workout...definitely result will appear!
