That is just a bit of rubber, did you see any metal or other material color in it? If no, means it is not deep enough. Last time 1 of my tires also encouter similar issue, i go to 1 honest tire shop he gave me 1 superglue and tell me glue own self.. laugh.gif Used until low treads and change also no issue.

ok thanks for the honest opinion as well. i don dare open the flap more worry will tear deeper haha, so far see like is whitish most likely is due to the cement from kerb/rock. I asked my regular tyre shop boss, he said similar thing that it is normal scrapping and as long as no bulging then tire wont suddenly burst. Order rubber glue from shopee, probably just to make it look less flappy lol. heard somewhere said superglue not good for rubber maybe will harden or wat haha.

Hi, its seems there is damage on your protection rib. Do you still see rubber after the cut? If so its ok, but would advise to monitor the tire closely and just take more care for this tire. No need to change for the moment.

Regarding your 2nd question. you can change whatever brand of tires as long they fit the size & load index but don't forget you will also get the average performance of all your 4 tires. So you will definitely compromise your braking performances.

Ya so far i see is all rubber. Probably just keep monitor everytime i plan for long trip back to my hometown which is 1hour drive. But i normally drive 90-100 only and road is not highway so ok la.

Cos i dont think i can afford PS5, those are selling rm1060 here and no stock πŸ˜‚ probably get toyo cr1 around rm460.

Hi sifu sekalian, please advise. Subaru XV (second hand AWD 2016 manufacture) tyres, these are the front tyre (Michelin)
user posted image

And these are the rear tyre (Continental)
user posted image

The rear looks like has reached the marker already, does it need changing urgently or relatively soon?

The front still can use? Or better to change 4 same time? Or perhaps swap front to rear and then change out the Continentals?

My regular drive is roughly 70-85km per day, mostly highway in Klang valley. Thank you for your time.

On rear tyres, if the markers (technically called tyre wear indicators) has not been rubbed/touched then they are legal (and hence safe) for continuing use.

If the markers has been rubbed or touched (and exceeding a certain percentage of tread area or a centain number of said markers) , then it is ILLEGAL for continuing use in most (or all) countries around the world and subject to penalty action from enforcement authourites (aka PDRM for passenger cars or JPJ for commercial vehicles). In this case, whether urgent or not is up to you to decide (in legal aspect) which may not necessarily mean 'dangerous in driving' in technical sense if you know what I mean.

The fronts are definitely fit for continuing use.

In a way I find your current practice of differing tyre brands/models between front and rear axles as being practical and helpful to the wallet. Suggesting all four tyres must be of similar brand models (with aftermarket tyres) is a MYTH out of fear-mongering related, to me.

Hi Sifus, I'm currently using a Atlas Batman (china car, china tyre) size 215/55R18. Thinking of changing the tyre to Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 size 235/60R18.

That seems to be the 'almost similar' size to the original size I feel.
Can this fit well? Is it a good choice? Any better alternatives?

Use this site to find out if the size are similar or not.

Generally speaking if you are going wider, you need to use a lower profile tire

Should be 235/50R18. Easy to find size since sharing same size as Alphard & Vellfire.

you must either be orang kaya or noob about cars.. people dont change tires at 16K, instead people do tire rotation and alignment/balancing..

unless you every weekend go sepang burn rubber..

I did change my stock tires on the 2nd day after receiving car. I had bad experience with that particular tire before (Silverstone Kruizer).

Don't wan't to take the risk.

I wrote an article about this here sometime ago.

Basically higher inch the higher profit margin it is. This is also a way to support the cheap low inch prices 😜. Same analogy like business class tickets supporting cheap economy ticket price.

I read about Proton S70 review mentioned that the entry level uses a 205/55R16 tyre.

I had a old camry which I had just changed very recently for 4 * 205/65R15 tyre.

Using this tyre model I had done some checking, Toyo CR1, I found that the

205/55R16 - Price RM272 per pc
205/65R15 - Price 245 per pc.

Both shopee online competitive price from the same shop.

However it seems to me that 205/55R16 is a slightly smaller tyre as per the following :-

user posted image

The question I had in my mind is 205/55R16 tyre costlier to manufacture than a comparable 205/65R15 tyre ???
Isnt 205/65R15 more costly to manufacture cost wise since it had a slightly bigger lump or rubber & perhaps metal??? Same width, more sidewall and a slightly higher tyre overall than 205/55R16

Or the cost is mostly similar (or very small difference) but the marketing decided that 205/55R16 will price higher than 205/65R15 since as per your statement above, R16 must have better margin than R15 regardless???

Hey guys, desperately need help for opinions on SUV tires. I don't have any knowledge about tires prior to this.

So my tire size is 225/55R18. My current tires are Conti CrossContact lx which came with the purchase of my car.
I usually drive around the city and kampung area a lot due to my sales job. I travel to KL and Kedah occasionally (2 - 3 times max a month). My highway speed is usually 120~140km/h, 150~160 if really in a rush.
Budget wise if can get a good tire at RM400+/piece is the best but if RM500-ish with good mileage then I suppose it's ok for me.

So I've been researching tires a lot and asking prices around as of late but I just have no idea how to judge which is good or bad or worth the value.
The tires I've looked at are:
1) Toyo CR1 - RM430 (I think, my uncle asked for me)
2) Goodyear Assurance Maxguard - RM520~550 (generally, with one exception at RM480)
3) Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - RM545 (pretty rare find in my area)
4) Hankook ventus prime 4 - Haven't got the price yet but this is the one I'm interested in the most because it seems like the performance is as good as Efficientgrip 2 according to tyrereviews and cost less but with lesser mileage.
5) Conti CrossContact lx - RM530 (this is quite a good tire but became noisy after idk maybe 30,000km? And going through speed bumps is really unpleasant which happened at the same time where it became noisy.)

My preference in tires regardless of price currently is
Hankook >_ Efficient grip performance > CR1 > Conti > Maxguard

Looking forward for any opinions provided and would greatly appreciate it. I'm planning to change 2 of my front tires next month as I believe it's almost 85-90% done with the tire tread.
