Hey guys, desperately need help for opinions on SUV tires. I don't have any knowledge about tires prior to this.

So my tire size is 225/55R18. My current tires are Conti CrossContact lx which came with the purchase of my car.
I usually drive around the city and kampung area a lot due to my sales job. I travel to KL and Kedah occasionally (2 - 3 times max a month). My highway speed is usually 120~140km/h, 150~160 if really in a rush.
Budget wise if can get a good tire at RM400+/piece is the best but if RM500-ish with good mileage then I suppose it's ok for me.

So I've been researching tires a lot and asking prices around as of late but I just have no idea how to judge which is good or bad or worth the value.
The tires I've looked at are:
1) Toyo CR1 - RM430 (I think, my uncle asked for me)
2) Goodyear Assurance Maxguard - RM520~550 (generally, with one exception at RM480)
3) Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - RM545 (pretty rare find in my area)
4) Hankook ventus prime 4 - Haven't got the price yet but this is the one I'm interested in the most because it seems like the performance is as good as Efficientgrip 2 according to tyrereviews and cost less but with lesser mileage.
5) Conti CrossContact lx  - RM530 (this is quite a good tire but became noisy after idk maybe 30,000km? And going through speed bumps is really unpleasant which happened at the same time where it became noisy.)

My preference in tires regardless of price currently is
Hankook >_ Efficient grip performance > CR1 > Conti > Maxguard

Looking forward for any opinions provided and would greatly appreciate it. I'm planning to change 2 of my front tires next month as I believe it's almost 85-90% done with the tire tread.

Try to ask the prices for UC6 SUV. If it's cheaper than VP4, go for it. If VP4 is cheaper, go for VP4. If both are too expensive, then go for CR1 SUV.

Seems like you can get CR1 SUV at RM350/pc on mudah.

I read about Proton S70 review mentioned that the entry level uses a 205/55R16 tyre.

I had a old camry which I had just changed very recently for 4 * 205/65R15 tyre.

Using this tyre model I had done some checking, Toyo CR1, I found that the

205/55R16 - Price RM272 per pc
205/65R15 - Price 245 per pc.

Both shopee online competitive price from the same shop.

However it seems to me that 205/55R16 is a slightly smaller tyre as per the following :-

user posted image
The question I had in my mind is 205/55R16 tyre costlier to manufacture than a comparable 205/65R15 tyre ???
Isnt 205/65R15 more costly to manufacture cost wise since it had a slightly bigger lump or rubber & perhaps metal??? Same width, more sidewall and a slightly higher tyre overall than  205/55R16

Or the cost is mostly similar (or very small difference) but the marketing decided that  205/55R16 will price higher than 205/65R15 since as per your statement above, R16 must have better margin than R15 regardless???
*
This wont be an exact answer, but its more generic. In manufacturing the overall cost of an item depends on the volume of the item being produced. As the volume of a particular item being manufactured increases, the cost of it will reduce. This is call the economics of scale. The same applies for the various tire sizes.

A more common tire size like myvi's 175/65R14 would cost less per tire to produce compared to a more uncommon size. Depending also on the market segment, tire manufacturers can either pass on these savings to the customers by pricing their products competitively or pocket the savings as more profit for the company.

Well I got UC7 for RM560/piece and VP4 for RM460/piece. So, should I go for VP4 then?
Regarding to mudah, how do you claim that? Is it the same as lazada/shopee? Just go to any authorized shop?

In that case VP4 is the no-brainer choice here. VP4 is tested globally with proper results, while UC7 is more of a regional product.

You search the listing on mudah, and usually they will have their shop name or contact there. You can google their contact to verify and then ask again.

Thanks for the great thread OP.

I recently purchased a BMW F30 LCI that has 225/50R17 tires. Is this the original size? I was looking at some F30 brochures online (please see attachment), and it seems like it could potentially be 225/55R17s.

Secondly, aside from Primacy, can you recommend any other tires? Just wondering if there is a more wallet-friendly option if my priorities are handling>fuel economy>comfort. I don't drive this car outstation and seldom ferry more than 1 passenger.

Yes this is the original size. There are no F30s that came with 225/55 R17 stock in Malaysia.

If you want tyres with handling as the main priority, it's not going to be fuel-efficient. Since you mentioned Primacy, some good cheaper alternatives will be Continental MC6 and Hankook Ventus Prime4.

If performance is priority, then Bridgestone RE004.

Thank you!

Between MC6 v RE0003, I am leaning towards RE004. Is that a good choice?

Hi TS. Any recommendation for 4x4 AT tires. What will be the best bang for buck tire? Is there significant difference between those premium brands Vs china tires? As the price difference can be quite substantial from what I can see.

Maxxis I Pro for grip. But mileage will be low.

Vp4 for all rounder performance & comfort. But, overall grip not as good.

Depending on what you want.

RE004 is a entry level UHP tire. Definitely gives more grip in the dry.

VP4 is a touring tire. Should give you more comfort & mileage.

MC6 is more of a touring tyre, although marketed as UHP.

RE004 is more performance-oriented. Sacrifices comfort for more grip.

Both are good tyres. 1 is a slightly extreme performance tyre while the other is more of an all-rounder.

Downgrade in terms of performance. Upgrade in terms of comfort.
