The mesh router that ALLO provides (Aztech RX180) is honestly just crap. It doesn’t even support two basic things:

1. No Smart Connect – It doesn’t support combining 2.4GHz and 5GHz under a single SSID.
2. No Ethernet Backhaul – You’re stuck with wireless-only links between nodes.

I’ve got two of them sitting in their boxes now — completely useless.
Or did I miss something in the router configuration? Spent hours digging through the settings but couldn’t find any way to enable those two features.

Now I’m back to using the old and reliable Deco M4R — no nonsense, and it just works.

When I received a speed upgrade from 100Mb/s to 300Mb/s in January 2025, Allo provided a new router. After that, my Deco M4R stopped working.

The same thing happened again when I terminated the old account and registered a new one. Curious, I checked the settings on Allo’s router and found it was configured to use PPPoE.

That’s when I realized why the M4R wasn’t working. I called their support line to request the PPPoE credentials, entered them into the M4R settings—and just like that, it was up and running again.

But hey, since the internet is solely for my in-laws—who only use it for watching TV and WhatsApp video calls—no harm done.

Not sure why they switched from IPoE to PPPoE—it seems like a questionable move.

Those who revised/renewed/registered after City broadband rebranded (or maybe earlier, im not very sure) to Allo Fibre, your account will changed Allo Fibre and using PPPOE.
This Jan, i was allowed to free "upgrade" 300m to 500m, but i feel very weird Allo technician must to come over my house to "setting" my modem/router. I rejected this and filed MCMC report and finally Allo upgraded my plan "remotely" and maintained my plan as "IPOE" 500m.

Good catch. Noticed my bill still says City Broadband which explains why I'm still on IPOE. Will take note of this if they offer any free upgrade once my contract is up later this month.

Also noticed the old City Broadband, they offered symmetric 1Gbps plan. Now after the Allo rebrand, their 1Gbps plan is not longer symmetric with just 500Mbps upload.

My free upgrade happened during contract. You may try your luck.
And they misunderstood my request, they cancelled my contract too. Now I have free upgrade without contract + waived my existing contract.

Allo customer service is really bad. I guess that's where they perform cost cutting to provide cheap rates.

So Allo sent this technician, who said that he wasn't able to get laser signal at MDF after he spent 2 hours. He suggested to replace some fibre cable and he said he could do it for RM100-RM150. This didn't seem believable to me because Unifi works fine on the same fibre cable. The PON light is solid green on the modem, when it's connected. If the signal had an issue, it should have been red.

I pushed back a bit. And the technician simply replied that I should ask the building management to look at it. The building management said that the technician needs to be present so that they can see the issue. The technician kept dodging me and missing appointments after I told him that. Then when he finally came again after missing 3 appointments, when I told him that I am going to get the building technician to help, he just told me that there's no need. And miraculously, this time the signal has no issues and he was able to get it installed in less than 30 minutes.

So what do you think? It seems like this technician was trying to scam me to get that money. While Allo believed the technician and kept telling me I need to ask the building management to fix the issue first before they send a technician, even though I had already told them that the management told me the technician has to come first before they "fix" the supposed "issue".

its common as most of them are vendor. luckily it happen to you and the technician unable to earn something hehe.

Are you switching ISP? normally the installer need to do some adjustment to the mdf room on G level and also the same level ( afaik room name is ELV room). Mine also kena during CD installation, riding on allo. 1st the tech adjust fiber on mdf room, then 2nd time they adjust something on room nearby lift which label elv room

Moved to new place. Previous tenant had Unifi. But previous tenant left his router and modem at place. I turned on the modem and was getting green PON light, which from what I read, means it can get signal on the fibre which should at least mean fibre cable is fine. But technician said he can't get signal from my room at MDF, and fibre cable have issue.

It's installed finally now. 10 days after I applied. Speed is also good. Although I am confused. Speedtest show close to 200Mbps. But I signed up for 100Mbps. Is Allo trying increasing speed cap when it detects that I am doing speed test? Because download speed when actually downloading files seem to be 100Mbps.

Hi Allo users, some feedback would be really helpful
TM has been having congestion issues for the past few days/weeks whatever
Any of you facing the same thing on Allo as well? Eg slow website loading from evening onwards (Twitter, Youtube, Netflix, Disnet+), high ping?
If not, hows the overall experience when using allo?

No issue for me. I'm using public IP via IPOE.

The worst experiences to Allo are their CS and random disconnect for few ten mins every month or so.
The error message from my router was unable to solve their DHCP and usually will back online after 20-30mins. I put a Hotlink 365 + RM10 5GB as backup internet.
