What are your inexpensive options when brown switches, even with O-rings, are still too loud for your liking?

Lubrication isn't cheap. Neither are specific silent/quiet switches. Especially so, when you are opting for a keyboard from the budget end of the scale like a Tecware Phantom or a Cooler Master CK350/CK550, and the value of doing so isn't there.

I know some people mention soft pads, but is that even available in Malaysia?

Unless your o rings are too thin, you are not looking at switch noise anymore IMO.

You might want to look into the acoustics of the case you are using. Maybe it is too hollow and would benefit to have some foam in it. And foam between PCB and plate is an awesome mod if you have the patience and dedication.

these days there is a grooming trend of switch films released by various vendors. here is the list that i know of:

1. tx, https://txkeyboard.com/
2. kebo, https://kebo.store/products/switch-films
3. deskey, https://deskeys.io/
4. thicc, https://maartenwut.com/product/thicc-films/
5. kelowna, https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=620073366941

these switch films are with different thickness, and some are with different materials. tx will also release a thinner edition of their switch gap films, mainly for nk/kailh cream switches. (the original ones are too thick for them)

Where would you suggest I go look for thicker o-rings, preferably ones that are more translucent as well since the ones I have seem to somewhat mute the LED emanating from the keycaps as well? And also the foam. I know what they look like from Youtube, etc, but I don't see them on Lazada/Shopee.

Thanks.

I've bought o-rings that were not advertised for MKBs before that were too thin and did almost nothing for the feel/sound. If you bought something like this you should be fine.

Don't know about the transparency, I've never used them with any keyboard that had LEDs.

You can check the previous thread, pages 107-109, for my adventures in foaming.

Yes, my batch of O-rings weren't specifically for keyboards. They were from an AV equipment shop in Jalan Pasar in Pudu. I guess I should measure the dimensions and see if that was the problem.

Looks like you MacGyver-ed yours. I was looking for something like a China-brand of EliteKeyboard's Landing Pads.

Thanks again.

if possible get phantom elite tkl. afaik, phantom 2020 tkl uses outemu sockets, which can only support outemu switches.
iinm there are models from coolermaster that uses gateron brown.

however i think it's better to get phantom elite if you are interested in experiencing different switches later. with tweaks, tecware phantom elite is a good option imo.

Cant find phantom elite in lowyat....
But they got sell spectre pro....
Is it better than elite?

for phantom elite, including tkl, you can try pm quovadis123.

no, spectre pro is an outemu-switch only board.

Razer has a new membrane keyboard in the market in the form of the Cynosa V2. This succeeds its first generation model, and is for those who are looking for a gaming keyboard but without the premium of mechanical switches.  confused.gif

RM299

i strongly recommend going mkb. Aren't those around 400-500? or maybe it's cheaper these days? confused.gif

Trust me it's worth the price even if it cost a bit more nod.gif

Heck i spent a bit more on dye sublimated and double shot keycaps. And the contrast is as clear as since day 1 when i bought them. And the mechanical switches still fine up till now. Yes you do pay a bit more but you still get a better product, something you use probably often.

I use to have painful palms typing, but not since i switched mx brown switches from membrane keyboard biggrin.gif

sure there is still a place for membrane keyboards. but i wouldn't purchase a so called gaming keyboard at that price. you can get a plain keyboard for far cheaper (the only point is, you want a cheap keyboard, that's it). if you need an actual gaming keyboard, or just a much better keyboard, just increase your budget and go for mkb thumbup.gif

No problem. I had to Google what landing pads are. They replace O rings IMO and not case/PCB foam.

And MacGyvering IS the inexpensive option. Otherwise you'd get it from people like MKUltra.click

in reality, you can get tecware phantom elite below that price. with switch hot-swapping feature, basic tuning will make it way better than stock.

it's a weird move from razer haha

Been using this RM90 (bought during taobao sales) Royal Kludge RK987 for abit more than a week now... It's surprisingly very good. Metal switch mounting plate and all the stabilizers came lubed out of the box.

so wondering if if anyone heard of this one ->
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a21wu....id=606987773773

Their cheaper model that im using comes with fake cherry mx switches which are re-cased kailhs but they also come with actual cherry MXs. The only downside is the bluetooth seems to be a little weak. So im using the USB-C wired mode and not been able to test if there's any bluetooth input lag while gaming.

Hi,

I need a mechanical keyboard with numpad but don't want it to be full size as it will be heavy and difficult to move it around.

I found the Leopold FC980M seem to be a good form factor for me but was wondering where can I try them out.
Any shops selling them?
And do other brands carry such form / size?

Bcos Leopold is really expensive.
Wonder if they comes in 2nd hand.

Those things don't have a sensor in them (open loop) so take the numbers with a pinch of salt. I'd try 300 and go higher only if it takes too long to melt the solder or too much time to recover between pins.

The form factor you are looking at is called 1800. You can also have a look at 96% form factor. So maybe Google those two terms and see what catches your eye. Or maybe an external numpad?

generally on PCB i set to 300C but i have never done on keyboards before. However, i'll assume they're the same. You dont want temps to be too high but also dont want it taking too long to melt the solder.

Guys, is it worth to upgrade from razer blackwidow to huntsman?
I have been using blackwidow for 4 years now and thought of changing to huntsman elite. Looks cool.
