QUOTE(horns @ Jun 18 2020, 11:38 AM) there is a multi-part crowdsourcing done at mymkb gb page recently, https://www.facebook.com/groups/MalaysiaMec...75307712705452/ I'm a Facebook noob. Don't know how to vote.you should check it out. Just scrolled down to the TX films group buy. Some people have received theirs! And my order was placed a few days before the post. Took only 10 days for it to get from TX in Cali, to LA, to Taiwan, and then to KL. Then yesterday only cleared Kastam. Took Kastam 7 days to clear it!!! |

Took only 10 days for it to get from TX in Cali, to LA, to Taiwan, and then to KL. Then yesterday only cleared Kastam. Took Kastam 7 days to clear it!!! A box of connectors. Tested them and the 5 pin is the correct size for my IKBC. Stay tuned for a custom coiled cable for my non-removable-cable prebuilt sometime in the near future. It's this one btw: #Aliexpress MYR 7.50 10%OFF | 230pcs PH2.0 2p 3p 4p 5 pin 2.0mm Pitch Terminal Kit / Housing / Pin Header JST Connector Wire Connectors Adaptor PH Kits https://a.aliexpress.com/_dURxoda Ordered 5 May already arrived. Switch stickers ordered 19 April still MIA. Sigh.... |

QUOTE(horns @ Jun 18 2020, 01:12 PM) ok Yeah...I'm stubborn. lolthat's not the voting post. you can look the actual vote page with group search. keywords should be 'crowdsourcing vote' i think. i guess it's better to just get stuff from local gbs or whatever shops that are at aliexpress/taobao/tmall possible. quovadis123 might have extras also for tx switch films and springs. oh you're doing a detachable cable mod? this is very nice! I don't know if it's going to be detachable. But definitely coiled. Maybe aviator or lemo connector in between to make it detachable. Aviator is big and chunky to me, but lemo is expensive. horns liked this post

If I had a choice between stainless steel and brass plates, which one would give me more thock? I'm assuming brass as it is the softer material?

Some of the good stuff has arrived. Pretty underwhelming to look at. How do you guys think I should consume this? Pop some in my mouth? Snort it?
Anyway....I screwed up again. Killed a switch while filming it. I thought I'd learnt my lesson to be patient, but I guess waiting for films to arrive since April really triggered me... So I got my TX films. Tried it on 3 switches. Nice. Very snug. Totally no housing wobble. Then I noticed that 2 out of 3 were not even clipped in properly. Huh. OK. So I noted that and proceeded to film all my switches. To compensate I started closing the housings harder, just jamming them down. I was thinking I can do all least half the switches tonight. Then I accidentally jammed down on a housing that was on backwards...and effed up the leaf. Spent almost an hour trying to salvage it. I just couldn't reshape it properly. I could get it to feel right, but the circuit was not closing. Now I'm 1 switch short... I do have a bunch of testers. And a bunch of non RGB browns harvested from my previous dead board. Though I kinda like the idea of getting a few box navies to use as Caps/Num/Scroll lock. Yet more waiting if I go down that route and order them....sigh |

QUOTE(horns @ Jun 22 2020, 12:22 AM) we all had such experience on effing our switches one way or another If I had bought the switches, I probably would have gotten extras, but these were desoldered from a prebuilt. Yeah, another lesson learned.now i always make sure the orientations of slider and switch top are correct first, then press all 4 corners to ensure they are all secured properly. for now you can use the non-rgb brown for like space bar. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Kailh Box Navies for my 3 'locks'. Have an obvious and loud noise so I know if I have accidentally pressed any. Scroll lock is particularly annoying in Excel. I know you're probably thinking, oh that's a >65% problem. Lol. I do have in my testers a single cherry blue, green and white. They'd all be clicky and I probably wouldn't "feel" anything off despite them being all different switches. But the fact that I "know" they are different will still bug me. Lol Another alternative would be using Zealios for the locks. Since I have 4 Zealios in different weights in my tester, spring swap 3 of them to the china 67g springs, and use them for the locks. No clicks, but there will be the super obvious bump of the famously tactile Zealios to tell me I'm hitting/have hit a lock key. horns liked this post

QUOTE(paiseh91 @ Jun 21 2020, 07:59 PM) 2: Any tips for modding currently owned keyboards? I was inspired from this razer blackwidow mod post on reddit, which spark my interest to mod it. I currently have Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 ver. & Blackwidow X Chroma TE. So, let's see what you can do with your board ya.Thanks in advance. 1. Desolder and lube all switches. 2. While desoldered, you can replace your stabs with some genuine Cherry plate mount stabs if you can find them. So far I only see them in stock form Zeal. 3. Lube stabs. Band aid mod on the plate if loose in plate. Clip if not clipped. Band aid mod on the PCB. 4. Spring swap if you want a heavier/lighter switch. 5. While desoldered, make a foam layer for between the plate and PCB. Very time consuming but highly recommended. 6. Foam layer underneath your PCB. To fill in the void that might be creating some resonance. Did not do much difference for my case but YMMV. Also worth trying coz it's usually easy to do. 7. Change all switches! Might cost a bomb though if you go for the currently "in" switches like Holy Pandas or NK Creams, or anything from Zeal. Lol. 8. Paint or sticker bomb your case. 9. Buy a custom kit. Harvest and move your old switches and keycaps to save cost (assuming you still like them). Oh wait, some Razer models have non standard bottom row so you might have to be wary of that. 10. Change keycaps. This can be super cheap or super expensive. Same warning as no 9 about non standard bottom row. paiseh91 liked this post

QUOTE(Currylaksa @ Jun 22 2020, 10:15 AM) What are your personal favorite switches so far? Long term on a daily driver, I've only ever used Cherry brown and Aliaz. Love the browns. Aliaz is nothing special. Felt good on tester only. The switches I enjoyed using: Cherry MX Silent Red Kailh Box Brown Zealios V2 65g Gateron Yellow Others on my testers that feel good to me, though I will reserve judgement until I actually get to use them on a full board for a few weeks: Zealios Hako True (not to be confused with Halo True) Cherry Blue Cherry Green Razer Green Yes I actually like clickies. I'm just too chicken to use them because of what my coworkers might think. Lol. |

QUOTE(zorbyss. @ Jun 22 2020, 10:54 AM) Rub it with isopropyl alcohol, and you should be able to get the rubberized coating off. If you plan to repaint, might as well sandpaper it no? Since it's recommended to do that before priming anyway.I did that for all 3 of my rapid-i. Planning a repaint in the future when I have the time. |

QUOTE(paiseh91 @ Jun 22 2020, 01:09 PM) Thanks for the tips, I'll keep that in mind. A clarification on 5,6,7: You can check the previous thread, pages 107-109, for my adventures in foaming.5 & 6 - Any idea which type of foam layer that suits or I could get any foam layer that's available? 7 - What's the suitable Tactile switches for it? https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4538548/+2120 3.5mm EVA would be the holy grail if you could find it. I managed to compress a 4mm to 3.7mm and it worked for me. Almost any tactile switch will do. As long as it is mechanical and has MX or box style stems. Buy a switch tester if you want to start exploring. There are some pretty huge kits available nowadays. For an extreme example, check out this 130 switch testers: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32894898620...earchweb201603_ paiseh91 liked this post

On pause while I consider whether or not this will bug me too much. Time to check my stab wires. |

QUOTE(horns @ Jun 26 2020, 10:42 AM) oh ok. you prefer the layout of kbd19x. it's a relatively rare layout, so i think the price is ok. ymdk has a melody96, but not with that layout. Actually I prefer full size. But since there are no custom full size in the market atm, this is a relatively affordable compromise. Austin > 500 USD RIP wallet. |
