the latest addition to my 64-key 60% reference build collection is a 64-key plateless tray mount build with gateron black.

the motivation behind this build is that i would like to know if it has the ctrlx/c/v bugs for via, https://www.caniusevia.com/

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

this is a build with flexes, and i like it. with touch typing, tuned gateron black works fine.

.. and the answer to the bugs described above: well, this pcb is also working fine, without those bugs.

Nice one horns. I thought with dedicated arrow keys is 65%?

So I ended up ordering this:
https://shopee.com.my/product/178155106/290...4759?smtt=0.0.9

4mm EVA foam. Medium soft. Hopefully will be able to compress it enough. I tested an item of 3.6mm thickness and it can slide through the gap with a bit of difficulty. So I only need it to compress .3mm or so. Oh god, writing this I just realised that's almost 10%. tongue.gif We'll see. Maybe I can iron it or something.

So I had some 2mm EVA craft foam lying around and did some experiments.

I think this is very much do-able. Worst case I have to order the 3mm and wasted a bit of cash on the 4mm.

thanks haha

60% pcbs like dz60 and yd60mq support multiple layouts, including split backspace, split left 2u-shift, and dedicated arrow keys.

to use 4mm, it's better to leave rooms for them to 'spread', and you will need to press on pcb during the soldering process also. not sure if ironing can help hehe

Interesting. Do you know any that are Bluetooth as well? After this project I'm thinking of getting a nice small MKB for the TV and it would be useful if it had arrow keys. I was only looking at 65% boards because I thought they were the smallest that had them.

yes, yd60mq can do minila layout, but without bluetooth hehe

edit:

my key concern about wireless builds is unstable connection. maybe things are relatively better these days, but i really don't need them for now.

I don't type much with my TV, so I got those plastic logitech keyboard + trackpad device for it. They comes with a USB receiver instead of using BT, so it doesn't drop word while typing.

As for small BT mechanical keyboard for iPad, I got the DareU EK820 68-keys from Taobao. They aren't great, but they are low profile keys and small, perfect for me to bring around. Also cheap too! Too bad DareU didn't make more of them...

I also came from a Filco Minila, which I've sold off. The backspace and right shift key irk the heck out of me!

Let me fix that for you...
in regards to "Cooler Master SK630" keyboard.

Low profile done right will be the cheapo Techware Phantom L RGB got which got good review.

Come to think of it - it's a pretty sneaky way if you consider this:

Manufacturers can advertise that their hardware uses standard connectivity, but you only found out that none of the USB cables you have doesn't fit when you need to replace the cables, and the only way is to buy it from the manufacturer (often at a significant premium) devil.gif

Thanks guys. The Filco Minila Air looks ideal. Either that or I'll try to get one of those replacement controllers that have Bluetooth and DIY convert a custom kit into Bluetooth.

it's a bad approach from manufacturers in general. it never work well. all they do is just pissing us consumers off.

Bought gk64 from shopee but the stabs are crap as in there's a slight seesaw effect when lightly tapping the space bar.

Any shop recommendation from taobao for plate mounted stab?

the seesaw effect might be caused by a slightly warped key cap. it's better to verify this first or you might fix something that is working fine. also, try tune stock space bar stabilizer first.

there is an active group-buy going on at mymkb fb page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/16306614171...636904176545806 (last day: 6th of may 2020)

good luck, because the update said the coiled cable slots are full.
