I saw some products online that doesn’t require tile hacking on bathroom floor... they pour some liquid onto the floor, then it will go into the cracks n harden... therefore preventing water leakage thru cracks. Not sure if those products really work as advertised.... previously the developer hacked the tiles n redo several times too, but prob still not solved... I really dunno wat is wrong...

Got also. The Pye one is pink color if I remembered it right. It is liquid form and fill the crack before hardened but remain flexible like silicone, but in this case where to pour?

The contractor did not do good job. The water proofing substance is mixed with cement. Nowadays there are ready made mixture. I think the main problem with your is at the corner where the floor and bathroom wall met. Usually the contractor did not do water proofing on the wall side. It need water proffing like at least 6" from floor. Normally this is the place where leak took place.

Well of course you can try any product that you think will give you longer term solution.
we are also still learning and just suggesting some alternatives to think about.

Personally i have used these elastometric product on cracks and with 2 coats (applied criss cross on the cracks) + 2 coats of paint (my choice nippon weatherbond) can easily lasts 5-8 years unless the wall has other structural problems.

That one I apply to outdoor cracks only before painting.
indoor walls as no water factor if there is cracks can just use putty to fill and repaint.

I am having some issues with my master bathroom (as pictured below). Is this an issue with the piping?

Would appreciate it if anyone could forward their previous contractors that helped waterproof their bathroom(s). I'm located at Ara Damansara.

Hmm... is this the edge of a wall for the balcony? Based on your knowledge, do you think there is pipe running through that wall? Usually pipe is not laid at so low but it may be possible that water only drips out from there.

Best is to get more information, like this particular wall in from which area, the toilet, balcony, outside? Possible to get the developer to let you know how the water piping is run as it is usually run directly from main to the bathroom. how bad is the leak, constantly or only during rainy days.

Hi Daang,

got few questions hope you can assist. for construction of a new house from scratch. below waterproofing sufficient? im not a construction guy so i might get all the terms mixed up

1) foundation & ground slab
a) 1 layer of polyethylene membrane sheet (as vapor barrier)
b) 1-2 layer cementitious waterproofing (before apply floor tiles)

2) toilet & balcony
1-2 layer of cementitious waterproofing (before apply floor tiles)

welcome other suggestions/recommendation..tq

Hi sifus, while waiting to get the keys of this 3 storey house, noticed a patch as below. Middle floor.

The patch was not there when we went for viewing few months ago.

Behind the wall is neighbouring unit. Is it something leaking from neighbour's house? Or need to hack the wall to check the leak.

That looks like your outside wall is sipping water into your inside wall.
No need to hack the wall, just check the outside wall for any cracks or not then patch it.

By default, your design and neighbour should be the same.

Is rainy season now and any leaking should appear... best to hire someone to check the entire house.

Hi,

I got a leak into my bathroom from the RC slab above, for a linked house. May I know roughly how much is the market price if I want to do a proper waterproofing from the top?

p/s - the slab area is about 6' x 10'

Attached Image

Thanks

You need to fix the leak from above before changing the plaster ceiling.
If not, the problem will come back again.

The cost is depends on how severe and how big the area that needs to fix. So cannot really tell the price from the pic.

But prepare around RM5K.

My bathroom floors don't seem to have a waterproof layer before the tiles were laid on. I think the house was built in the 80s and don't know if that was the normal way of doing things. So when the tile grout is worn away which is happening too frequently under the shower area, water will seep through the concrete/cement and the water will drip from the ceiling on the floor below.

Instead of re-applying grout (using water resistant grout from pye). Should I apply some sort of penetrating sealer and some sort of waterproof top coat to seal the grout lines?

Or does grout sealer help to protect the grout so that it doesn't get worn away too quickly?

Check what is above, in my case it was the bathroom and all that is needed is to reapply the grout lines which is very cheap.
