I started my MaxisOne Go WiFi subscription this month and can confirm that the internet speed is being heavily throttled from 8PM to 12AM even though I’m nowhere near the 300GB unlimited quota limit. It’s 9PM+ right now and I can’t even maintain a voice call without latency issues (500ms-5s delay no joke). Websites (even Google!) also take forever (wait tens of seconds or go make a cup of coffee) to load even with AdBlock on. Outside of that time frame, I’m getting up to 2MB/s download which I personally wouldn’t call 5G-ready

but at least it’s not unbearably slow.
I’ve been a long-time Maxis customer but my perception of it has changed drastically since last year. Their service has been piss poor recently and they’ve been constantly nickel-and-diming their customers every chance they get. A couple of instances that I encountered:
1. The use of dark patterns in their mobile app by rearranging the order of purchasable internet passes every once in a while. After having developed the muscle memory for claiming the 1GB free daily internet pass (yes, unlike other telcos e.g. U-Mobile which just gives you the free 1GB automatically, Maxis users have to manually claim it), you will inevitably click on the incorrect button which leads you to purchase a non-refundable RM10 internet pass even if you try calling customer service to cancel it. I found out that it is possible despite the staff on the phone telling you otherwise. You just have to email customer care and jump through some extra hoops. Maxis actively makes it a painful experience for you to get your money back. Celcom is a delight when it comes to dealing with the same issue.
2. When I signed up for MaxisOne Go WiFi as an additional plan to my principal line, I was charged RM10 for itemised bill. I discovered this when looking through my credit card bill. I have explicitly opted out of this before, instead choosing to get all my receipts via email. When I confronted them on phone, they told me it was a mistake and they would undo the charge. I consider myself a tech-savvy and meticulous person but imagine the percentage of their customer base who fell for this and just never found out.
This turned into sort of a rant but my takeaway is if you need a reliable internet service between 8PM to 12AM, look elsewhere!
