Talking about smells, reminded me of my experience.
During my previous job, I used to travel a lot with my ex boss. He is a very strong buddhist and hinduism follower, dont miss his daily prayers, body full of sakyant and use Thai amulets. Once we were in Penang for work and had to leave late due to our clients there held us back for dinner.
I was driving all the way back from Penang and since I am bad in geography and roads, he was directing me to go through this road which had subang golf club in order to reach federal highway. It was past midnight, once we were one golf side road, he rolled down the windows for a smoke.
The moment windows were down, I could smell strong flowery smell. Even though I have never experienced such things prior to that, I remembered some of my friends in National Service used to teach me survival skills when we go into jungle. Hence, i just kept quiet and drove. But not my ex boss, he HAD to say "What is this nice smell". My heart was beating fast, I refused the cigarette he offered and kept my focus on the road in front of me until reached federal highway where there was cars around. Luckily nothing happened.

Now there is a reason why i mentioned about the sakyant and amulets. I used to follow him every year end to go for rituals in Thailand where he visits some monks hidden in deep places (jungles) which usually are not frequented by tourists. Once done with the prayers, at each temple he would donate rice to the surrounding villagers.
One such trip, as usual, I would be doing the driving even though he would say he will take over half way, but never did. Since I am much younger than him, i don't mind driving all the way, plus I am more confident of my safety when i drive myself. We left KL at 1 AM, this is our normal timing for such trips, in order to reach Padang Besar border in time for breakfast and getting all the docs done. He was sleeping all the way, and I dont usually make any stops since it is middle of the night unless necessary for the loo.
As I mentioned earlier, I am bad in roads and maps, so was around the Ipoh or Tapah area where the road is very curvy. Suddenly my boss woke up and with his eyes wide open staring at the opposite side of the road. I didnt ask him why since i prefer to keep my eyes on the road, as it was dark and better to avoid hitting any trash or tires. He looked at me and asked if I saw it. I asked him saw what? He said there was a lady at the opposite side of the road, and she facing us. Told him I didnt even look that way, so no way i would have seen. The thing is, not even a minute, he went back to sleep. I was cursing silently, this guy scare me and leave me driving alone, at least should stay up in case really something happens ..... DUSH!!!!
A loud noise in the car, and a lot of tiger eye beads bouncing in the car. My exboss woke up shocked, I was beyond shocked, but still tried to keep the car in control while trying to figure out what the hell is happening. Opened the lights in the car and noticed that the Thai amulet he hanged on the rear mirror of his car was missing. It had been there since he bought that car 6 years prior to that incident. I slowed down the car and told him to pick up the beads and amulet, we saw the amulet which was in a glass casing is broken and some monk cloth which was given to him to keep with the amulet has also dropped out from the casing. After gathering all the items and storing it properly, we restarted the journey.
I dont know why whatever happened did happen. But one thing thought, throughout the rest of the journey, me and my exboss was fresh and focused on the driving.
