I've been lurking in this thread long enough to know that some budget 3k for their dashcams (mostly the Korean brands). Totally out of my own budget, but also you do get what you pay for.

DDPAI Z50 GPS with rear cam set or the more expensive but latest model 70Mai A800S will do as well with your budget with lots of balance left.

Looking for a budget front + rear dashcam with WiFi. Best of the WiFi app doesn't have built in ads.
Anyone use brands like Azdome, Dosen, Roadcam or Safecam? Azdome is less than rm200 and also sold internationally. From YouTube reviews seems not bad. But unsure of battery is capacitor or not.
Meanwhile, Dosen is a noname brand and Roadcam and Safecam are local companies. The latter three brands price range is below rm150.
The usual brands like Dppai and 70mai are easily above rm200 range. So I'm leaning towards the Azdome M17. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

QUOTE(SportyHandling @ Jan 26 2024, 01:24 PM) Good to know. I don't have high requirement for a dashcam so a basic one will do. After talking to the sales person I've changed my mind and will go with a single dash cam plugged directly to the cigarette lighter. If hardwired to some parts of the car such as battery, will void the warranty for battery with new cars. Initially thought of fixing both front and rear dash cam but reverted to just front to avoid the hassle and also the fact that the rear windscreen would have very dark tint so the rear dashcam will not be able to capture a clear video if the tint is very dark. I heard it won't void car warranty, may I know which car brand

Not all warranties, meaning chassis warranty, engine warranty, etc all still working. If you can removed traces of hardwire before sending to SC for any electrical warranty claim, can lar...just don't get caught. One of way is to installed an OBD hardwire instead of fuse hardwire, plug and play.

Just plug and play. If you can reach your OBD port, you can just pull it out yourself and plug in when necessary. The difference with Cig port plug in? Z50 OBD port have a switch at the plug, can switch it to 24 hours or ACCs mode, ACC mode means when switch of engine, it will cut off power like cigarette lighter port. 24 hours will act like fuse kit hardware, 24 hours, can use for parking mode. The only problem with OBD port for long term is if SC or mechanic want to diagnose the car system by computer, they will use this port but then you just have to pull it out (plug and play) and after done, plug back in. Mind you, by SC term, it still consider Hardwire, so warranty can be void but at least you can pull/plug back in yourself unlike fuse kit hardwire.

Just go for either of this 2, anything else might as well don't install la.

Ya, if I buy new car, I will likely get the car manufacturer expensive and subpar dashcam if I must have dashcam. Really don't like external cabling to USB or cig port. For after warranty car, I would advise going for OBD port plug is available. Easy to unplug unless fusekit hardwire. But then again only got 1 OBD port per car when technician uses for computer diagnostic but then again how long only we need such diagnostic...but obd dashcam plug can just pull out and plug back without repercussion when doing computer diagnostic.
