Since this lappie is more powerful than the previous s73g,
then will the battery time also lower?
or is compensated by the santa rosa proc?

Wow. Sounds like a good deal. But I'm just worried about the heating issues..... Notice anything out of the ordinary about heating?

And sorry to ask also, but how's the Service for BenQ? I'm worried if it's another famous Acer service.

the speaker got improve liaw ma??coz S73G's mmg a bit S**K lo..haha..very metal metal kinda look o..cool..but the headphone jack still infront..not tat gud lo..but who cares..asalkan specs strong..haha..price oso cheap o..RM3999 is worth at tat spec lo.. :-P

John.. are u sure the RM 3999 for s41 is with 8600GS graphic processor??
Cause i heard other ppl said it could be only INtel build in graphic.. which is a lower end spec. the real spec will cost more..

Well most people think that it is just another c2d but in reality it is more than that. Althought current model of santa rosa is not equipt with Turbo Memory but they wireless draft-N the later model (another generation of santa rosa) will be equipt with 3.5G or wimax. ya la everything u can dream of is at this laptop.. 16ms LCD, HDMI, GF8600, core 2 duo, webcam, and i think it sound performance should be a lot better than s73g.. since it emphasise about it SRS true surround technology......
and even won an design award!!!!

since is a 1gb max turbo cache ...

RM 150 to 2GB .. RM 399 vista home premium .. with install ..

this 1 come with 1 year international parts n labour warranty ^ ^

i dun think john is trying to sell anything here .. although it seems that he is the only notebook retailer that is giving fast feedbacks to forumers ... all the questions asked on the price..how the CC works, John tried to answer it. As none of us would know how to deal with it. So in the end, it depends on the user or forumer itself if wanna buy from John or other shops...

well i prefer cheap what os you use i don't really care. Nowadays it is kinda expensive for laptop. Let look at sony, fujitsu, acer travelmate, toshiba and lenovo. At the price that they are selling it is quite premium with nothing special to offer.

ha kind of confusing here. so the RM 3999 is without os one?? or the coming batch will preloaded with vista and user will not have choice to choose? i.e price will higher than RM 3999??

Btw, the ram included is DDR2 533 or 667 cause i think i got a spare 533 in my drawer... using by the dust... haha

and two statements here:

honestly if you guys browse thru the thread on first few pages ..we had already advised John to change the topic to a Fans Club because he created the topic on taking preorder and he took our advise and changed the topic coz he knew it was wrong..the ONLY MISTAKE he did is forgot to edit his previous posts about preordering rendering him to be banned for 3 days.(i had gotten feedback from Administrator)

Questions are asked by forummers, so he just answer based on what he deals on his shop. You can't expect us to give u every tiny winnie details on how to buy or anything like tat coz we are not prefessionals. Then it is better off all the forummers just go to the shops and get one.

This is how malaysians responded ..what is the price? what is the price? how to buy? where to buy? BenQ good? when can buy? I am sorry if he just so happen to be a seller and tried to answer such questions. About the begging to buy? lol ..he just said can come and buy from me. He never begged anyone specifically to 'PLZ MUST come to me and buy okay?'

i would like to apologize, you are not wrong, nobody is wrong at all ..i am impliying that this particular thread started off as a Sales Thread where John_jay2 took preorders plus information and details on S41. I pmed him told him tat was wrong so he changed the topic back to Fans CLub ...it IS a sales thread to begin with but changed course after he realized his mistakes .. Admin banned him coz of his first post ... he listed the preorder list .. If he is encouraging ppl to buy, we can always ignore that, i had never brought anything from him too ... no hard feelings bro, he made mistakes and realize it ... so let give and forgive lol.. laugh.gif

Ha pal, Benq's LCD tv and monitor in UK here are comparable with samsung, toshiba.. and so on.. the latest series of LCD tv even sell a lot more expensive than those u think "branded" products.. but a lot of users still give them very positive review...

and the most expensive part in notebook i think is its LCD... Think like this... u can get a so cheap lappy with a "branded" LCD screen.. You SHOULD Laugh.... Loudly...

Sure, I know he's a seller, there are a few sellers around here as well. It's perfectly fine for him to post stuff regarding how the thing works, where to buy, and stuff like that, perfectly fine, nobody is going to refute that.

It's the part of encouraging people to buy that is wrong IMHO. You said we can all regard it as being spamming, but that is stepping into the line of starting the sales thread. By promoting himself, he can be regarded as trying to sell stuff. Piece of advise, tell this to John, stop promoting himself, stop encouraging people to buy etc. etc, anything other than that, I doubt he's going to get into trouble.

And that's my say about this topic, I rest my case.

To avoid OT, there are benchmarks of the Zepto with a 8600M GT outhere, but yeah, the BenQ is using a 8600M GS so the performance, as I read from various sources, says it's going to be a little bit better than the x1700/7700.

As to the BenQ CS, I don't know how far as they progressed. Back in the end of 2006 2005, my friend bought a BenQ laptop, had a problem with it, bring the thing all over Lowyat Plaza asking for someone to fix it, and everyone refused. Hopefully this kind of thing can be avoided with that service center in LYP.

what's the diff between GT and GS in 8600M? if it is really better than x1700/7700 then it sure is a powerful gpu for lappy lol ..

Refused ur fren;s lappy? Service center would always take the laptop if it is under warranty ..they would go thru tests first to determine what problem has occured... i think better is ur fren log a complaint or report...

GT is the stronger version higher clock/mem rate compare to GS. GS is slightly above G7700 while GT is between Go7600GT and Go7700.
For example G7700 score around 2500 and 8600Gs can score around 2600 while 8600Gt score around 3300. something like this. Not exact value but more or less to the real thing.

vPro and VIIV is a technology like Centrino ..it is used with duo core and duo 2 core proc too ..but it is aimed on business customers .. and larger computers ..for server use or super computer use ..

lol what it means is, if dun belive in BenQ notebook at least BenQ is reputable in making lcd monitors ..so if other BenQ parts are not good at least u get a good lcd from BenQ lol ..

What do you mean by "normal" LCD screen? Do you mean a matte screen. If that is the case, get it replaced with the glossy one, Toshiba is short changing your friend if your friend gets a matte screen.

Ya the matte one. because the service centre is in London. so he need to keep go and back again in order to get replaced.. but the point is.. who pay the train ticket?? shocking.gif and now he is very angry as they seems like cannot track his case properly... and every time email them. he has to re-describe all the problem again hmm.gif

Other stuff may be Acer gemstone can win s41 but i think they can never beat benq in terms of the pricing.... and s41 got 16ms lcd screen and HDMI also.....

one stupid question is.. can ps3 HDMI plug into s41 to play or not? i.e use s41 screen to play ps3.. dont scold me if both of the connector are "pinned or hole" type cause i neither own a ps3 nor s41, haha. .of course, unless they are "gay"..

Hmm.. ya if look at the spec seriously. the Acer gemstone is not bad too. good consideration. but if can make it a bit smaller size i.e 14 inch that will be even better... for me.. hehe

I wonder why acer products become cheaper.. usually they stack up their price quite high compare to the other brand. so i dont even bother to "google" this brand.. anyway, interesting model.

now i prefer the benq's design over the gemstone..somemore i prefer the size 14 inch, but acer gemstone got options to upgrade the processor and up to 4gb ram..

haha, before this i wanted to get Dell XPS 1210
12.1 inch screen with great customizable specs,
but now got all these delicious lappies coming out,

looks like the acer gemstone got better specs,
8ms screen, geForce 8600M GT and upgradable processor and up to 4gb ram,
apart from the design and size,
which i prefer in BenQ's s41 rclxms.gif

so now is the decision between weight, and design if price is not ur concern.

i feel a bit heavy when i carry 14.1 inch notebook to travel around... so 15 inch i think even worst.

Yes, sales/promotion of sales is only allowed in the tradezone.

This area is for discussion among end-users, not for promotion of products/sales promotions by sellers.

We do not want sellers pimping/disturbing discussion threads for their own interest. Mr John (and his many other duplicate accounts) have been caught promoting sales of items from his own shop many times. We issued him a suspension for 3 days last week, however, he continued to disobey the rules - hence the 14 days suspension.

but the HP 6910's specs are customizable..with 14.1 inches screen

the acer gemstone only available in 15.4 inches..which is too bulky for me

too bad the benQ s41 doesn't have options for the processor,
i really want a T7300 2.0ghz processor with 4mb cache
rather than the s41's T7100 1.8ghz processor with 2mb cache

mind i chip in a bit of caution when using s73g.
If anyone is xperiencing kickin out to desktop
on playing heavy 3d games, running at unusually hot temp,
or any weird behaviour related to the x1600 chip please
try these driver instead.

It solved my temp problems and locking on "stalker".
Now my lappy runs so much cooler too.

cant wait for 13th june! im so tempted to buy this laptop. been looking around but not many laptop has 8600. futhermore its 14,1" can fit in my bag easily. the downside is that the screen resolution on WXGA. i prefer atleast WXGA+ since already used to that.

Yeap it is a huge Laptop, this is what they mean by desktop replacement. So it can't be called as desktop, conclusion still laptop.

Ps : Toshiba Qosmio G40 is a 17" desktop replacement, can be found on yesterday in tech which cost at RM10999.

Nope, the replacement for the dv9000t is the dv9500t with a 8600GS.

But that Dragon laptop looks really nice, should be in the class of the XPS M2010

Dedicated until 256 if not mistaken, only GT series is until 512mb. But it is depend on the manufacturer to put 256 or 512. The rest is shared.

It is not a must but you also say only dell. I do believe HP doing the same on selected model only. If BenQ do the same thing also won't be bad.

I dont think it will happen in our life time. Reasons:
1. Small laptop not much airflow, greater than 8600GS will producted too much heat.
2. Resolution too small for GT version on 14", unable to utilize fully the 8600GT.

Well it is true if there is a powerful graphic is always an attractive on any size of laptop. Let do hope that technology improve faster than we can imagine.
Nowadays mostly the powerful one is on 17" or greater.

Haha long way to go. Never seen any x26ooXT in the market. What else about x26ooHD, that will be even longer. Hopefully AMD don't bankrupt first.
Yeah X2600HD is medium range, i would make it the performance is between 8600GS and 8600GT. Still is a speculation only based on x2600XT. Hopefully it is over 8600GT. hmm.gif

btw if wait like a month will there be a significant diff in price or same about 4k?...if local stocks sold out u can order more from the supplier arh?...was considering dell cz can customize but then have lousy graphic card and yesterday saw the go 7300 jump from rm360 to 699 zzzz...and today just offer gma950 which is a joke

Hmmm. ya now if they change to xp they faced a lot of driver issue... seems like vista is perfect for s41... hope by the time we get it, more driver for xp can come out.

other great things are they said real picture is better looking than those on web one. no heating issue, sound quality is a lot improved from s73 and quality is really nice. the 3d mark i'm not clear about it. some say can reach to 9k sth.. but some say at least got 5k5... hmmm..

ets say i buy the s41 , then decide to install winXP.. are the drivers supplied in the package? or i must download it myself from any web.. cos no driver download yet from benq website lar..

benq also come with some software rite.. such as QMedia Bar, BenQ QShot, BenQ Surround, Power DVD, Nero Express, Adobe Reader, Anti-Virus, WebCam Companion, Magic-I.. are these softwares are still usable if i change to winXP.. i mean , r there any software cd supplied in the bundle? n are those software that shud be supplied compatible with winXP..

the app .. is in a cd ..

S there are Vista drivers for the S41... but if say...i need to reformat the laptop? I do a lot of my own computer maintenance DIY. I don't want to have to hand it back to BenQ just for some simple reformatting.

Or are you going to give me a Vista CD as well? laugh.gif

2 months without a working pc and having to share one laptop among four people has made me high strung. laugh.gif laugh.gif

When you finally get something of your own that you can stop sharing with other people... that's like having your first girlfriend or your first car. Not much the same but similar. laugh.gif

Besides, this is th first PC where i am paying part of the share of the money for.

I can live without anything like tv,electricity,computer or house (I am from estate where hutan is the next best thing in spiv's world). sigh....... I got the quote from that IT place in the old wing of 1 Utama, the one near Pizza Hut.

So will have to wait until 2 weeks time and see how the market is.....

I just need a 8600GT laptop that's at the RM5000 price point.....

Delayed as well, but I guess that I will hang on with John for now. Please don't delay it over 23th IF possible...else I really have to run and get Asus (lower specs , higher price)..Sigh, my bro will fly off by 25th, really can't afford to wait any later than that. rclxub.gif

OOT: Gemstone delayed till? A guy (from the current Acer promotion) in LY ground floor guarantee me that it will reach KL by 20th. Still, after chatting with John and that guy, I'd rather go back to John (much friendlier and easy to chat, the other fella seems too keen to get some deposit from me...).

Oh no... Hopefully nobody gonna whack me, I bought the low-end Compaq Presario V3514 (Not from John tongue.gif). I couldn't wait for Benq Joybook S41. Coz I need a notebook so badly to rush my work which is due this week.

Perhaps if I have enough cash soon or ur company offer more types of different credit card for instalment plan, then I might consider grabbing S41 too. More the merrier. biggrin.gif

If you purchase the vista surely will have CD ma. no CD given maybe pirated. tongue.gif
Anyway nothing much can be upgrade beside OS and RAM. Not sure for HDD though, but most probably not.

i would love too but so far the only laptop that i know can overclock is M1710 from DELL. Other than that nope no over clocking on the bios and the processor itself is locked. Unless Intel comes out a new overclockable processor,but then that would overkill the laptop. Maybe the rate of changing laptop is like one in 6 months or even shorter.

but in malaysia there is many no.1 brand , such as , acer , HP
thn NEC , u can hardly see ppl selling it ...
another things is , the service centre is kinda hard to find in malaysia
isn't it ?
even in the website , they also nv display the service centre ..
another things is , this model oni use the wireless abg , not N
well maybe some 1 dont need it. .. perhaps ...
n for the windows , nowadays .. many ppl know how to do the software lar ^ ^
some 1 not really need the genuine 1 ...

Nec Spec almost the same as Asus G1s oh. Except for Graphic and screen size. hahaa i also doubt about the price but who knows until it official release. But if it is really true wow, Option to choose like gemstone, because of graphic, Nec because of higher processor/mem raw power is unbelievable, BenQ cheap for students.

It is good for consumer i would say.

very nice model ... very solid ...
n the color metal laminated casing , very nice ^ ^
cool ....
n play the demo HALO ^ ^ cool man ...
use hdmi transfer the image to the 24" LCD .... more cun ....
thn after tht .. join the fantastic 4 movie ... which is a bit spin off lar ..
not tht good movie ... not as good as i expected ^ ^

after 3 months the price surely drop. Intel already announce to lower the santa rosa processor. It seem in July there will be quad processor for laptop.

sweat.gif sweat.gif typical mind. U think those engineers and designers sitting there doing nothing aa? whistling.gif if intel were to mass produce C2Q for lappies, im sure they have figure out how to solve heat problem... now C2D already using 45nm... its way cooler than ur current C2D thumbup.gif

I guess you never do some reading. Santa Rosa processor, the current processor is very smart. We have two processor but when running on single tread it occupied one core. The second core will be temporary idle. Hence, you are running the heat of single core instead of previous gen on two core double heat. The single core will auto clock to higher speed until the task is complete (idea taken from ATI overdrive) but the temp will still be lower than a 2 core running simultaneously. Hence it will reduce the total wattage usage as well as heat. Currently only available in laptop, desktop version will be introduce in the later stage.

hahaa i guess you need pressure pump all the dust inside the laptop, apply arctic silver 5 to the processor as well as the graphic. I think that will helped a lot on heat dissipation.
