LOL..I do agree unless you are filthy rich, there is no point to upgrade from 320MB 8800GTS right now. Good card which is best bang for buck..

Anyway, anyone knows the core/memory speed for stock 8800GTS 320MB and the MSI 8800GTS 320MB OC?

Is the MSI OC comparable to the eVGA superclock series?

below/with 1280 resolution, 86GT/GTs just run pretty well, somehow beyond 1280 resolution, 88 series would be best choice smile.gif

graphic card, depending on your desire gaming resolution before making any purchase and yet monitor > 60Hertz refresh rate would bring different gaps performance compare to just only 60Hertz smile.gif

go and check www.nvidia.com.
They'll have with them the most stable driver.
But if you would like to use beta drivers, then need to do some googling..

I'm currently using 158.27 (downloaded from Guru3D) as opposed to nvidia's official ones which is 158.22 and so far so good. Havent encountered any problem.

i get this from the Guru3D website, regarding the driver Sprinta using

ForceWare 158.27 for Windows 2000/XP/MCE just popped up everywhere on the internet. WHQL or not, this is to be considered a beta driver, we always recommend using the latest official NVIDIA driver.

The best is to use the latest official Driver.

So, downloading the driver from nvidia's site would surely be the latest stable one?

thats too low on that lost planet demo doh.gif shocking.gif

almost same as using my 8600gt, I can get the same reading at everything default... lets hope it is due to their poor coding...

i just have everything on max but no AA as my card crashes on AA for some reason

Really hope the problem is due to poor coding of the game. If not, even the 8800GTS series looked doomed on DX10 games..LOL..

no u guys should read up

aa/as still driver problem on vista.
heck on sli even worse.
cant enable both of them.. cause it will cause ramdom crashes.

i not sure who is giving u the idea that vista is stable.

this are vista driver problems

1. no AS/AF
2. Video Overlay random crashes
3. SLI very buggy
4. OpenAL /OpenGL performance is really bad.

so its BOTH of them enabled causing random crashes? so its not my graphic card then? thats the confirmation i needed. anyways thanks for the reply man.

but from what i read on the vista beta drivers release notes, AA/AF issues are fixed, but i guess nvidia lies tongue.gif

=edit=
just to clarify ive never had the impression or said anything that vista is stable, and i do know of their various issues, just not this one. overall, this issue doesnt affect me much except the annoyance that i couldnt pump out more detail seeing as i have a GTX.

just a question.. how do you output to HDMI using 8 serie scard... i am thinking of hooking up my pc to a HDMI enable TV..

the new ATI seems to have them built in

do i need to buy an adaptor... currently the TV is hooked on component..
*
i was thinking about this too, and I don't think it's possible unless there's a DVI to HDMI dongle for the card. I wonder if the 2900XT's dongle will work on the 8800 series. hmm.gif

Vista issues ? Hmmm. single 8800gtx experience:

Buggy yes (IE has crashed a few times) performance wise ? maybe slower than XP, but still plenty fast. AA and AF ? Works fine on some titles with no problems. OpenGL ? Haven't installed my copy of D3 and Q4 yet. Game crashes ? None so far. (cnc3, stalker, call of juarez, far cry, RE4, colin mcrae dirt demo).

My user experience = it's ok. wouldn't change back to XP.

tried both AA/AF? my graphic card just dies (windows still functioning rofl... got background sound/music during game, just graphic dies out. but if i go alt+ctrl+del can see the screen lol... and have to restart from there)

other than that, no issues at all.

but since its mentioned BOTH aa/af causing crash, i havent tried JUST AA without AF. have to try it out to confirm, cuz all the games i run i have AF maxed, no issues, just when i turn on AA, after a period of time randomly it'll crash (ONLY the graphics)

akachester: You can stick with the WHQL ones or get the latest beta from www.nzone.com.

cheer EOMA. but is the ATI dongle availble for sale? i tot that small little dongle can only be bought with an ATI card...

another question.. if and IF i get the HDMI output dongle does that mean i can discard the audio cable as well since HDMI is both for AUDIO and VIDEO also right?

on a side note has anyone with a GTX and ULTRA tried the Doug Jones Human Head demo.......that demo is sick. i know its supposed to be an ULTRA demo but the whole thing still ran butter smooth on my GTX.. its damn unreal

for those who are interested here is the linky!!

i think u have to go the NVIDIA SETTING. from there u can access the display setting for each display

some tvs are stuck to 800x600 so u cant change them anyways..

what tv is this card hooked on anyways?

If I remember correctly, the tv out adjustments are just not working (yet) in Vista. Blame Nvidia.

haven't heard of it being sold seperately, maybe buy it off someone with a 2900XT ?
Erm, if you're not using a 2900XT then an audio cable would still be neccesary since in the case of the 2900XT, it's the card itself which is generating the audio signals, hence only 1 HDMI connection for both video and audio. Don't think you can pass audio through the GTX and out the HDMI link.

OT:

To play HD-DVD and Blu-ray titles on the PC at native high res, a HDCP supporting display and HDCP enabled display adapter@GPU is required. The content is encrypted, so the HDCP support is required both at the monitor@LCD and GPU level to play back the encrypted content. If either one is not HDCP compliant, the video and audio will be "forced" to play back at a lower quality scale or not at all.

thx for the clarification on HDCP supporting specs...
i wouldnt expect it require both LCD + gc to be HDCP compliant...
guess i miss out HDCP feature for taking the 1st batch 8600gt...
