Save space. You think about it, the middle of the status bar normally also nothing there. I don't know why apple decided to fill content into the "Ears". Maybe they scared burn in oled. You check the photos with notch turned off, look nice like s8/9.

Huawei even manage to squeeze a front fingerprint sensor in there.

From Google it didn't turn off it just move lower and fit the top with black. If turn off on notch the edge is higher.

too bad i though it was buttonless for the bottom side of main screen

People who hates apple will hate the notch, but I like the notch cause it has a bit more futuristic design and everyone is trying to fill as much space as possible.
Huawei did a better job cause the notch is only small portion, unlike iphone X.

To me Huawei is still a pretender in flagship arena, at least till Mate 10 Pro. P20 series does not 2K display, hi-res audiophile grade audio (like V30 U11 series, even S8/S9 is a lot better than Huawei), and great mic quality (try recording in loud scene).

Yes that's true. Samsung skin is too heavy but at least you pay for top end hardware. The heart rate sensor is useful to me. Bixby not so.

Not really also. Sony's camera algorithm is a piece of shit. Audio (via jack) quality is decent but definitely not in the same league as LG V series and HTC U series.

I know it's hard to get everything right and there is no perfect phone. But to me, audio (and screen quality) is a very important aspect which separates the really top end and the pretender (meaning top end price but....). OnePlus is almost there too, but at least it's not as expensive as top end phones and we get less because we pay less.

Lets wait and see P20 Pro could change that. But I'm not hoping for much.

while XZP have what you need, tech spec wise 4k HDR with triluminus (this depends, not sure sony or samsung have wider gamut) which can throw others miles away

Photo Rendering Algo i think due to business strategy dont want competite with RX100 series (you see rx100 photo quality you will know), quality wise i have nothing to say however white balance is top among competitors which make it still stay in the flagship list.

performance wise, check out youtube how performance for s835 in XZP compare to S9 series.

as you say there is no perfect phone, so how can you ignore Huawei that have its own selling point and ignore that they are also presenting flagship in the market.

Not really also. Samsung has its weaknesses. I have been using Samsung, Huawei, HTC, etc. I try a lot of models and brands. I had a P10 but it's what it's worth. Although camera was it's strength but it's not the pinnacle and the rest of the features are average at best (the audio was meh). Huawei asked for RM2499 for the P10. But to jack up the price to over RM3k, that is getting into a different territory. Meaning, there is not much room to be sub-par in some area.

Ah yes. Each phone maker has its own market and niche. But when a manufacturer is asking for a top end price, you can't give sub-par hardware anymore. Remember P10's non-oleophobic screen? How about the inaccurate digitizer? I had no such issues with other phone makers unless the low end ones.

The only major brand I haven't try is LG and I'm eager to try out soon.

5.8" for P20. Cmon huawei why its getting bigger and bigger. I hand small small only 5.5 xiaomi also felt so big. The phone size really turn off. Glad I bought P10 and not going to upgrade P20
