Is it safe to say that Wechat Pay here is already scrapped?

im surprised too! anyway, do we really need a bank account and a number from China before activating wechat pay? one of my friends told me so and he did it during his trip to Beijing.

Else, just get someone from China to transfer angpau to you.

Finally got the prompt message for region change. Activated and loaded some money into the wallet. All went smooth with verification submitted for the 4999 limit.
I think most if not all should get already the wallet for malaysia right ?

Add on: Too bad BigPay no longer can be linked with WeChat Pay.

I added my BigPay card to my wechat wallet previously. I check again after reading your post and sure enough, it was gone. Thanks for the tip.

Added cimb debit card and tried to top up Rm20 but declined

Ask their customer service about it and they will tell u to wait for another "2 weeks", it's never ending.

My wechat previously no Wallet, now suddenly got wallet, when I click in, it it Malaysia wallet.. n it seem like I’ve no way to change region to China after this

Few Day Before my Regional wallet activate, I was able to add BigPay to the China Wallet and verified. And, the BigPay card still attached to the china wallet, but I did not try to top up as I duno where I going to spend this after top up.

Now, I got my Malaysia region wallet activate and was successfully added a BSN debit card.

So now I have both China and Malaysia wallet which previously none of them show in my wechat.

Just to share my experience.

FYI, I was charge 0.33 yuan when added BigPay to China Region Wallet (it is about RM0.20 for BigPay Rate....see BigPay exchange rate quite good as well) May be next time go China can try to use it as an option.

It seem like the China Wallet will only activate when you got money or card link to it. Therefore, I think if you really want to see the China wallet then you have to ask someone to sent you some RMB or Yuan to your wechat....I think it should work.

But, I not sure you can use China wallet here in Malaysia even though some of the merchant here do accept wechat through terminal...I saw on youtube someone had try and not successfully. You can use China wallet (for non China people) only as peer to peer transfer only.

Agree...don't even border to top up until they had open up at least peer to peer transfer. At this moment totally unable to do anything with the wallet.

But, I think it will not be long. When I first switch from China to Malaysia wallet...I had seen the wechat add section show "Hong Bao" and "Transfer" as a new feature but when I click the app just crash. So I think the feature is there already, just waiting them to choose a good time to activate it.

Too bad, I cant even activate china Wallet with my friend sending me angpow in RMB.. tried this b4 MY wallet launch 2 months back, but not workable..

I think this is a good move for them, because many countries has their own regulation to be fulfilled to avoid money laundering. And, there is no point if local wallet cannot even to be use at other country for the same type of e-wallet.

Therefore, I think if wechat pay allowed us to tie international debit/credit card to their china wallet (which they already done) and let whoever have China wallet to use at all over the world merchant that accept wechat pay would be better than only have Malaysia wallet to use only at Malaysia Only.

Thirdly, if they can integrate a Currency Exchange Calculator into their wallet (Just like what Alipay did it) for ease to pay in other currency.

And like Alipay and BigPay, try to provide the user best real time exchange rate without any hidden or surcharge.

I don't see why they cannot use the China Wallet to conquer the world with cashless RMB/yuan. Just like the US dollar bills.

Since they had already have allot of out of the box app or hardware that could be use immediately with RMB...can export out to all over the world.

I think they already saw Alipay move toward this direction therefore they also make the change accordingly.

May ask your friend try to transfer some RMB to you instead of ang pow. As I know if you not collect the ang pow within 24hrs it will be cancel.
If you can received the RMB transfer from your friend I sure the money need to be store on some where. I bet it cannot store on your MY wallet.

Got the message told me my ID verification successful. Now limit increased to 4999 for top up. Less than 12 hours for them to verify it.

when i click angpao, then wechat ask me to setup bank card and those stuff?

No issue for mine. I still have China wallet and I still can receive and give angpau.
