Uber and Grab need to give promos to maintain their brand. Otherwise it's no difference than other apps such as zepp on, Mula, ezycab etc etc. It's how they selectively choose those who deserves the promos.

It is the competition between Uber VS Grab only. Other apps like no match.
Uber started the week with promo code but not for Grab. I think they must have notice the drop in request therefore decide to hit back. Last week promo is RM5 off. This week is RM6 off. Competition driving each other to kill slash the pricing.

Something like what the telcos did some years back. DiGi slash prices to gain market share, then others fight back.

I just signed up on Uber. I am a GC driver and I am wondering what limitations Uber have on the drivers like acceptance %, cancellation %, driver's minimum rating, what incentives are there, det cetera. Where can I get such info?

The "tempang" culture is already hard wired into our society, Uber did it first, and now Grab is continuing the good work, and the "tempang" crowd will happily go where the promotion are
But who can blame them? Our streets are not design for walking, or safe from snatch thieves. Considering 500m walk = 6-8minutes (sweaty smelly colleagues in meeting room is not nice at all)
I'm a Grab driver(ex Uber), running on incentive mode, picking up RM3-6 most of the time (Grab is certainly losing money on me, as the incentive is more than  Grab Commission)
How long can Grab continue paying incentives?
If Grab stop the incentives...  who will service these RM3-6 rides?
*
The majority of GC drivers are Flexi drivers. They gun for big fares only like cabbies. So, in retrospect, they are paying us incentive drivers. IMO Grab and Uber have yet to realise this but they need both types of drivers; drivers like long rides and drivers who like short rides. With the money we are making, it does not make sense to accpet all rides, however both companies are expecting that as drivers, we must serve irrelevant. What they need to do is drive themselves for 2 weeks. Believe me, they will see the light.

These are not organic income.

As a full time driver, I rather no promo code and I get normal riders everyday. No surge also it's ok.

Promo codes create a very false market. You are very busy, but getting all the short trips. Yes it creates a surge, but again, short trips so not very apparent.

What it causes is this high surge will deter the normal Uber users. So what you get is a very luck based once in a while rider who will take a high surge long trip.

This makes it very luck based, not organic .
*
I know it is not organic, but this would increase the revenue and the figure will be appealing for investor, saying we manage to increase revenue bla bla %.

In the end it is still about figure for the management and investor.

QUOTE(ieian81 @ Sep 27 2017, 07:14 PM)
I picked up their Marketing guys before from their office at Bukit Pantai and I told them the same.

Your marketing sucks.

I asked them about their conversion of users who only uses promo code to become regular users and they told me it's very low.

I would think a more proper promotion (being a Marketing guy myself) is every trip you take and pay more than RM5 we will give you a free trip worth RM5 up to a limit of say 10 in a week during promotion period.
*
True, their marketing sucks, just look at the billboard photo

Birdshit on car
Car drive fast and water splash on woman

I can't relate all this photo with Uber advertisement at all doh.gif

Don't know about any incentive, only available to newbie or non-KV drivers ? Can anyone confirm this ?
The number of trip for quest bonus is available on your driver app, you can check it there.
In fact, 99% of the time you can check from your driver app.

I am a lazy Flexi for Grab now, making ~10 trips per week LOL...
I only pick ppl who is on the same destination/way.
Extra money while going to my client's place, why not ?

some inactive drivers get two tier quest.
$$ per trip on first tier is usually higher...ublur think these drivers won't drive much to hit the second tier target anyway.

Seriously, as a driver, we have the right to know the destination of the passenger and we have the right to decide either to take the job or not.

somehow ublur need to find out root cause why their driver act certain ways. die 2 ask their driver to follow their rules such as maintaining high acceptance rate won't work....

want to ban their drivers also need to consider the no of driver in the street.

One of the reason Uber started was because taxi drivers were rejecting customers due to the destinations.

I haven't driven in a year but when I was driving, I wasn't too fussy about destinations. Got Genting and KLIA a few times though but that time, there's a high chance you would get a returning trip.

Today morning 7.30am click online at PJ Bandar Utama area.

First Ping showed funny details on the phone.

It says 1 min only and rider's rating only.

No distance showed.

Since it says only 1 min, I accepted it.

Then only it shows go to Sungai Buloh and about 25 minutes away.

I was STUNNED !!! But no choice already accepted it and have to go.

Then suddenly rider cancelled the trip !!! Happily thanks the rider for his cancellation. Maybe too long for him to wait for me to reach there.

Then second Ping came and only 3 minutes to go there.

If like that, almost cheated by UBlurr Driver app !!!

Yeap, I agree...when I started, I also accept all the trips come in, and I would say the apps and riders was way much better, they won't simply assign you riders who is far away, max also 2-3km away, and no all those stupid promo that encourage tempang riders, resulted you drive longer to pick the riders than total ride destination (my records was drive 4km to pick up a ride for 200m, reason it's raining, and the tempang rider don't want get wet), and only accepted card payment. In other way, the rider is more well behave, Uber had all their records, unlike now, I can just buy multiple prepaid card, create multiple email and create multiple Uber rider account, u banned me, u give me low rating, never mind, I still can use another account. Plus, the fare was much better that time......

That was good old time....and good things doesn't last long....now to compete with Grab, and to get more riders, to explain to gomen, to get more income, they market it as taxi replacement for riders......instead of "ride-sharing" but still use "ride-sharing to attract new drivers......

And, the one that stop me from driving altogether, they introduce fixed fare, and also they remove the waiting time from the fare.....

So, I stopped altogether.....it just ain't worth it......and after deducting all expenses, barely breakeven....only advantage, is just flexible
