QUOTE(KenC @ Mar 10 2018, 09:37 PM) Moulton are meant for 40kmh. Seriously, why would anyone expect a foldie to do everything a RB cando (and better) but nobody expect to fold a RB? Not sure who gave you the impression that Moultons are meant for 40kmh. That speed is an effort even for RBs. We all know it, so let's cut the BS. Sure, 40kmh no problems, but in reality how long can you sustain that for? Sure, there'll be some who can do it, but for most? Moultons are generally heavy and with the smaller wheels, I'd take my RB anytime. I did not enjoy mine, hence sold it.

Why are we talking about folding and speed???
Each bike has its own advantage... no one is dumb enough to say a RB can go mountain biking... good luck getting fall off....
Each bike has their own advantage.... and we choose the bike based on our needs... A folding is versatile to bring into public transport anytime... good luck getting a RB into MRT/LRT during peak hrs....
I bought a folding cause I live in apartment... space is a premium and I fold up the foldie to put into my car boot... try that with a mountain without a rack...
for Foldie people did endurance in it... it will be around 25-30kp/h sustain... which is OK for a bike...
if you want competition go buy a RM100K road bike

don't get me wrong, a folding bike can go the same distance at same speed like road bike just that you will have to pedal harder. same cadence same power output always a roadbike will be faster. I go with roadbike due to the speed. i really do not have the time and power to go distance on a folding bike. with same effort i can go further or i can go same distance like folding bike with less effort. QUOTE(jimmyyap03 @ Mar 10 2018, 08:39 PM) Any reason to Road bike? I feel like to acquire Roadbike for slightly long distance speed cruise as well

still on last count i got 4 folding bikes, 2 roadbikes and 1mtb. i still find folding bike unique. and with improving tech, i am really impressed with the direction where it is going. on RB especially governed by UCI rules, it could be a bit boring for me.

You may be right for a stock foldie vs stock RB/MTB but if you wan to go as fast as RB for a foldie there are some mod can be made... I have seen friends mod with higher gearing which made the folding as fast as a RB and according to him it is as good as a RB.... just need to mod the gear system to have it ride further and easier....

that part i will never dispute, some folding rider is faster than road rider. but at equal wattage equal cadence, equal gears, road bike 700c will be faster. so what i did was taking advantage of this as i am not a powerful rider, road give me easier ride easier effort. Just curious, anyone here wrap his new bike with protection film? Any shops are giving this wrapping service?
I read some shops in Thailand are providing wrapping service.
By the way, I just completed wrapping film for my new bike.

I have the same thought in my mind, I wouldn't let go for folding as it too convenient for me to bring around. Will train up and maintain above 30kmh on fb before decide to grab rb

Haha, getting old and I don't think will go for competition for expensive bike, my financial minister wouldn't allow me too...

Change to a bigger chainring, eg 60t sure can keep up with rb. It's about whether your legs and lungs can keep up with it. I test rode a velo with a 60-53t before. Sure it's fast. But it drains out your energy just as fast.. This post has been edited by fatani: Mar 11 2018, 08:28 PM

Why don't we ask why RB cannot fold... 40kmh realm with Foldies is doable, my 14 and 16 year old nieces can do that speed for 30km or so on small wheel. Would be a waste of effort for me to attempt > 22kmh average speed.
