You gotta beware of the rear triangle spacing of your B, what I understand is you need to replace the rear triangle to pun in an 8 speed… 4 digit to buy the new rear triangle…
*
I got a quote for £394 and another nearly US$594 for the rear triangle, in titanium or stainless steel. If the B is going to be my only bike, I would do it.......but it is not. Still, nice to have 8 or 11 speeds.

OK, my tips for you is do it patiently.
Repainting is not Rockey science, it only require perseverance. Redo when you are not satisfy.
Other then getting zinc based primer, it's just like any other quality paint job. Sanding, wash, paint, sanding, wash, paint, sanding, wash paint 5 coats minimum. 9 coats is about right.

Oh ya, strip every component including the headset...
4 weeks tops…

What paint do you intend to use? Are you going to paint brush? Air spray? Spray can? Powder coat?

When it comes to painting, I only believe in surface preparation. And correct paint and primer selection. Brand don't really matters…
*
Ken, what do you mean by "wash"? As it water? I was thinking spray can, but if that is not the best, then maybe powder coating? Spray can finish may not be durable?

Sifu Etigge and Azam had painted before and from memory used spray can with clear coat.

The spray can that I used are 2Ks which must be used within a week after purchase. It is filled into aerosol cans only after you choose your color by the shop here that specializes in auto paints. I did ask about polyurethane clear lacquer but the shop said it hardens too fast and not encouraged. But the clear lacquer they sell me are quite good, super high glossy finish but needs at least 3 coats. Also, although the aerosol can is the normal size, I only use about 60 percent (guess work) because I don't want to risk big droplets spraying out as the pressure is soft by this time. They sell the paints at 22 bucks per can and clear coat is 19 bucks. I usually use 1 can color paint and 2 cans clear coat.

How I wish I have a compressor or I would use epoxy paint and clear coat. It's even harder than powder coating after adequately dried. Just like fibre glass resin, the epoxy paints also use a catalyst for hardening (timing is crucial) and there's a time frame to spray and clean the nozzle.

The regular anchor brand is good but they scratch very easily as they are not really hard.

Ok, so this is automotive paint. Just as well, I was going to use hardware shop spray can. Ok ok, I'll look into it.
I'm waiting for the frame to arrive then strip the paint and see what is left. Will post some pics when I'm done.
Thanks!!

Automotive paint is what I would recommend too. 2k clear coat is bullet proof.
If you use chemical stripping, conceal the frame in the biggest garbage bag you can find after you apply the paint stripping liquid. Leave it overnight or as per instruction. It also make housekeeping easier, just leave the scraped paint in the bag.
If you get orange peal or tear drops, don't worry, sand it with 200# wet sand paper when the paint dried hard enough. Re-coat after washing and degreasing.
It's always better to under-spray than over-spray.

Thanks Ken, good tips!

Should I get the Xiaomi Qicycle Electric bicycle or a Brompton bike? Which bike is faster in speed?
Also, If I get the Brompton bike, where can I get it serviced if there are problems?
*
Not sure if you are serious......

You are comparing two different things here and depending on who is pedaling. A Brompton world champion rider is probably faster than most riders on any bike. The electric bike would be much slower if the battery is about to expire. Depending on what is want the bike for. Neither may be suitable.

Nothing much can go wrong with a Brompton. If you can't lubricate a chain, then there's the problem laugh.gif There's no motor, what is there to service?

Some 7 speed does have cassettes and you can go up to 9 speed. The Dahon Vitesse D7 or the Speed D7 has such hub, unless they are specific to certain regions only? If in doubt, pull off the rear wheel and have a look before buying the bike.

Hi guys
I have this Birdy frame collected some time ago. I had wanted to respray and install a fix front fork and create a lightweight folder.
No time to do this, so I’m offering this to anyone interested before I advertise elsewhere.
Price? Swap you for a couple of set of Kojaks?
PM me!

Thank you very much for your interest guys. Sifu Etigge will be performing miracles and making this into some sort of bike.

I will have new go fast tyres and a very nice leather handlebar bag which I will show off when I have it.

Happy riding.

Now, I have lots of these tubes to give away...before you get all excited, note the size. 26 inch, presta valve and the valve is very short, like 25mm.

If you can use them, let me know.

You can use valve extenders of course, but lots of 26 inch wheels uses Schrader type. Not sure if suitable for wider mtb tyres?? I'll bring some for you. Coffee is my favorite drink, how did you know?

I have now got the Birdy frame from Desastar, I can't concentrate on my present project, cost factor  rclxub.gif  Pictures below.  smile.gif  Anyone interested in the project. I ordered the Dahon's handlepost which folds inside rather than outside for more compact folding, a Biologic seatpost with pump and the Dahon's aluminum fork which I can paint the same color. OR if you are riding one of the cheaper folding bikes like Trinx or XDS or even the Moongoose, I can transfer all the components over. Usually branded bikes, the frame is about 70% to 80% of the whole cost of the bike anyway.

If you can spend a day in Taiping , I can do all the assembling for you FREE !  biggrin.gif  Maybe I can give a few lessons to you on assembling and maintenance too  rclxms.gif PM me if you are interested.
Haha, I know how you feel. I've also got another project needing my attention. Hopefully I have time during the Christmas break.

I have too many bikes but not enough time to ride them all.
Thinking of selling this 9 speed Birdy, in excellent condition. Interested, let me know. How much? RM3000.
Has the Expedition rack included.
