if i say 42T will you have a try?

see, you think you feel more comfortable if you have 14T, means 11,12,13 are heavy for your comfortness.

you prefer to have 14T to 17T close ratio because the gear inches is around 65 to 80, that's most people comfort gear inches too on cruising.

in order to ride in the 11,12,13 close ratio range, you really need downsize chainring to 42T.

not sure if you could get 42T easily or not but most 42T is from 52T/42T dual chainrings.

i do have a 41T single chainring, because i can't get 42T so i bought this.

to be honest most of my ride im on 13t with current 50t. depending on ride style sometimes is 12t and 13t switch a lot between this too. 13t and 15t also switch a lot. thats why i say if i have a 14t will be nice to use. 11t seldom use. sometime doing power sprint i use 11t and ride to the max. with my current cog 15t then towards 18t i think that having something in between will be a bit better which is a 16/17t. thats what i feel la. hehehe...
so far i have not tot of 42t chainring. sounds like a lilttle too small? if i compromise too much on the high then the low gear will be super low? hmm.gif

I am using Kinetix Pro X wheelset but just 406 with shimano 11sp cassette

better to confirm with LBS as well or just bring along the rear wheel / whole bike for test fit

if u scare too small then 45t or 46t lo…
fyi…number of teeth of cassette makes more difference lo…
chainring u need 4 teeth only can feel the difference
44t also harder to get, mostly from brompton

i feel that most ppl very hesitate in downsize chainring.

downsize = weak ?

i have been this scenario…downsize chainring to get faster average speed.

right combo of gear ratio is so comfort to ride and tackle your usual route even has to sacrifice some top speed.

alamak.. got some formula. im not good at math laugh.gif

anyway, its all depends on setup. i wont debate more on single chainring vs double chainring. its about personal preference.

for me closed ratio are good when on flat route. there not much different + or - 1 cog

its much better setup with double chainring.both u can get flat and climb. oh ya, my tern setup is 11-23 with 53/39

where else,
single chainring setup may had used wide ratio casette. why? extra gearing they said and simple minimalist

but,
when comparing 11s vs 16s (in my case 2x8) i got extra gearing too. cost wise, my setup are cheaper then running 1x11.

besides,
i hate crossed chain issue & chain drop on single chainring. try that before. also not suite with my style of riding.

so for conclusion
if got money, why not?but i will wait for 12s to get cheaper laugh.gif

back to TS question
to make sure the wheeset are 11s ready, just look and the rear freehub body. if there a spacer means the wheelset is 11s ready.

user posted image
u will see clearly got spacer like this

some bike manufacturer wont pay for the cost. i mean if the bike are not meant for 11s, why they need to pay for 11s freehub? 11s freehub cost more.

but if not,
just stick with with current setup and add on another chainring. without fd also can, but it would get messy with oil if u know what i mean.

dont start a war about what is right or wrong. just enjoy ur ride and worry less about bike setup. try 1st worry after laugh.gif . anyway, ur bike is only 30% factor in terms of riding perfomance, another 70% is the person pedalling the bike laugh.gif i think most of us had saw harith salleh riding java fit among with rb's with 50km/h++ speed.

happy cranking guyz!!!

I've followed your replies on pikes bike and got me very interested.

may i know what model is this? and roughly how much do I need to budget?

Noted on the 6-speed being the 2nd gen, and this 6-speed is the one to go for...will try to find it 2nd hand

I'm new to this. smile.gif

i see.

advice noted with thanks. well, since i am riding 20" and 16", so i know the wheel size difference in passing by those bumps. even some bumps my 20" can go thru but my 16" can't, don't say that your friend comparing roadbike with 14"  sweat.gif

but i really like the folding size and weight of 14" but 1 thing i don't like 14" is the rear derailleur too low.

other than that, i still prefer 16".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
so if someone is lurking around this thread, and wanna get a balanced folding bike, follow our otai2 here...get a fnhon zephyr (a.k.a ka1618) modded with 349 wheelset. (taobao got ready built)

thanks for sharing infor on the fnhon zephyr, saves the trouble to google and hunt

its called pikes element under champ brand. some country named as champ pikes, paikesi, backer..
its indonesian design brompton and made in china. its 85% copy brompton with some different. but most of aftermarket for brompton can fit this bike

used, depends. sometimes its very very new and the price nearly new.
price range around rm2.3k - 3.2k. it does come with front carbon trispoke wheels and its price rm2.9k above depends on seller.
