Nope, i means I test the new modem, and compared old grey modem and I realize latest modem startup speed is faster. Just few second AUTH and LINK and VOIP light up just less than 1 minutes second.

Uh... how often do you actually restart/turn off your modem? Mine is running 24 hours...

This is latest FTTH modem provided from TM.

I don't know the spec.

Just want to confirm is this better than Alcatel Lucent modem?

If yes I'll make my alcatel modem spoilt and claim latest modem from TM.

According to my TM contact after I send him that picture, he said this particular model integrates everything, yes, that right, it has wi-fi!!!

In the future, there will be no longer separate BTU + Wireless Router as soon as IN SEPTEMBER 2017. TM will save a lot of money from introduction of this model.
He heard it cut 60% of overall customer premise equipment cost. hmm.gif I don't know if he is exaggerating.......

EDIT: Don't trust my source too much ya.......after all, my contact had been wrong several times.... laugh.gif

If so, I don't think it would be as good as the TP-Link one, and we would be better off buying our own modem. Hopefully when I get UniFi by this or next month I can still get the old ones.

For high rise building use vdsl only.

But not for landed house using FTTH.

example all in one modem using asus: https://www.asus.com/sg/Networking/DSLAC68U/
For VDSL ONLY.

FTTH modem not in market.

Looking at internet in malaysia it is very disappointing. Theres no such thing as lowering uploads to provide better downloads as to have either you need the other.

If comparing to UK, UK's equivalent of BT is limited by technology, TM is not. TM has gigabit capable fiber optics to homes (GPON is capable of more though) and yet TM limits the speeds. Infact in the UK BT is going to roll out 300Mb/s VDSL with 100Mb/s upload (limit of vdsl standard).

ISPs elsewhere provide multiple PPPOE servers per area to reduce contention and load. You can have a good infrastructure but a slow PPPOE server is going to slow down users. TM only provides 1 server per large area and isnt exactly reliable due to loads. The PPPOE server is basically just your everyday server. Where i stayed in the UK, the ISP had 4 PPPOE servers with different locations and you would connect to the fastest one to you at the time which i would connect to 2 different ones simultaneously for consistent speeds.

So without technical limits, why cant TM provide faster symmetrical internet? They have the capability and capacity to do the same thing as google fiber and they've expanded into becoming a T1 level ISP as well for increased global bandwidth. The expansion of products like NAS and cloud storage services into consumer market will require faster uploads.

There seems to be so much fame here for asus routers not to mention the over pricing. If you really must know the asus routers with wifi AC are only a little bit faster than tp link's variations with a couple mhz difference in CPU speeds. Many ASUS routers are actually slower due to broadcom's SoC while other SoCs like marvel and qualcomm include a better CPU and actual hardware acceleration and we still use vlan + PPPOE which hurts performance on broadcom and many other similar SoCs. The AC68u's CPU is fast enough to handle 300Mb/s NAT without vlan and PPPOE, when you add vlan and PPPOE the speed drops to around 150Mb/s and that does not include QoS performance. I've seen many complaints about the DSL AC68U because of the poor choice of DSL chip, and this comes globally. For VDSL i recommend separate modem and router but not many brands produce good modems for VDSL capable of more than 100mb/s speeds (most of them just use 100Mb/s port while claiming to support faster speeds) and the good ones arent cheap either.

Modems rarely need to be replaced. Some modems can give higher sync speeds on copper but unless something goes wrong its not really the modem's fault. There are FTTH modems, simply look for GPON modems or you can use SFP module if you use a router that has an SFP port which if you dont mind forgoing voice will give your router direct access.

My router on the other hand can perform NAT + QoS + PPPOE + VLANs in software at symmetrical 10Gb/s speeds and is apparently popular with some ISPs even in singapore.

Oops a typo there, should be buying own router instead of modem.

If one day... our TM's Unifi Business is reorganized into TM Openreach (NBN) and TM ISP (to compete with other ISPs), and when both units are operating as separate entities.

Anyone having trouble getting 30Mbps at a condo? My unit seems to make out at 10Mbps with VDSL.

Got an SMS from TM saying my 30 to 50 Mbps upgrade will be completed by end of Oct 2017.

First, Feb, then Jun, then Sept and now Oct!

My sister in another town in Sarawak also got the sms. Looks like for a batch wise roll out in Sarawak.

Saw some crew putting in another optic line in front of my house the other day. Why? Just for this 30 -50 Mbps upgrade?

Worrying if that is the case. Why no over design/excess buffer in the first line installation installed only about a year ago?

My D link AC1200 router (the cylindrical one) has orange on the earth icon, and the alcatel modem only has LAN with the light on. "Auth" and "line" are both not lit.

Internet is down and the phone doesn't work.

When I go to router settings, and click repair, it asked me to set up my internet connect. Have to put in ip address ranges for PPPoE that I don't have (instruction asked to contact service provider).

After proceeding with the setup, now I can't even access router settings.

I am guessing instead of a service disruption, my router or modem actually reset itself last night?

Reported to TM. Now long weekend no unifi. Hoping to figure it out if anyone here experienced this before.

Why worrying? You should be happy now.
It is likely the additional fibre lines are extensions to your nearby housing estate / lorong which are yet to get the new service.
If you are using FTTH, you are ready to enjoy 1Gbps in the future.
Also extra bandwidth (4Tbps) had just been installed to East Malaysia recently which we might have faced congestion in the past (only 0.4Tbps).

AUTH and LINK no light means fiber cable issue, you have to check ur house fiber until outside TM Pole.

You shouldn't do any setting on router.

If the Link light on the BTU is off then not much you can do except check the cables and make a report. Happened to my neighbour last weekend. It turned out to be a problem outside the house.

Thanks both! That makes sense. Think it was raining heavily last night and the pole right behind my house is rather messy, I can't recall if they installed my cable to that pole or another pole that's far away. So that seems to likely be the problem.

Hopefully i didn't mess up the router settings by accident.

I read on one of the super old troubleshooting guide here that the orange earth light means the modem or router reset itself. Hence wanted to be sure.

Guess all I can do now is wait for the call from the technician.

Its not means router reset itself.

Its means internet disconnected, means no internet. For more technical, its technically means PPPoE doesn't connect, have to check modem side.

I see. Thanks for the explanation! Sucks to not be able to game or stream video for the next few days.

But I'm guessing if it's cable issue, tm would be covering the cost of repairs so I don't need to pay the rm53 visitation fee?
