I bought some stuff from Gmarket and it's over RM500 value.

At Poslaju said
03-Jun-2011 03:21 Arrived at inward OE/Receive item at OE

at the Gmarket tracking system said,
14:28 03-Jun-2011 Handed over to Customs  MYKULA
Customs retention reason : High-value goods - Official customs declaration required

so, do I have to pick it up or something ?

Hi, My friend is sending me IPAD 2 3g from CA, i just want to know if there is any tax or duty by custom and if i need to acquire a SIRIM approval for even 1 piece or no, i called customs and it was strange to know that there is no tax or duty by custom on IPHONE or IPADS. Moreover i am also looking for any good agent or linked person in custom who can help me getting my IPHONES IPADS and other cellular devices in KL as i dont want to be in any custom or SIRIM hurdles i just want delevery In town and that person or company can charge me even on per piece basis, my conssignment will be by air and weekly shipments.

I just got this from the EMS tracking and frankly, I'm a bit worried sweat.gif

Jul 22  Retention     MY1200  MALAYSIA

I bought some figurines totaling about RM470 including shipping. Is this retention only until customs opens again on Monday or I need to prepare to fork out extra cash?

Thanks! notworthy.gif

Just random replying this section of the 'common' issues periodically, but if you do have further enquiries, feel free to PM or drop a note, as I'm unable to 100% track and reply every single one who has posted some valid question.

There's a threshold value amount (and sizing) as to personal usage items, which is of not much commercial value accordingly to common-sense superceeded to local authorities' [Kastam] bible - subject to changes and the later reserves the final say.

But when it becomes a viable business gain, or you might be considering for Profit or further Business reason, whether just a few pieces, in bulk, or cyclical mass quantity importation into the country, you'll be exploring a long-term business solution for your calculated business, instead of playing russian roulette, where most matters have less of your control.

Basically, best to prevent the problems from starting, escalating to most of the example issues above... and also costs a ridiculous amount of unnecessary monies "On-Top of it" to further fix the problem, wasting time, travelling, headaches and again, your blood and sweat.

As of today is it still advisable to import GPS for personal use?

Went through a few previous posts from 2008 stating the SIRIM approval problem.

You're right the approval frm National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau is required,
Nothing much complicated on the process, it's just u got to give them the sample of the product and the MSDS of the chemical and all related data
for your purchases prior to importation....the approval (license) will be issued right after upon their approval on lab testing and the validity is for 1 yr and can renewable on expiry....

True, the charges are mostly for those big times importers whom brings in Bulk toys thru 40ft containerized
If u plan to get in 5 pcs only you may seek for exemption under "personnel collection" clause

The ruling and clasification on declaration and procedure are same thru out Peninsular, only the efficiency of both terminal may differ.
Air division clearance operates up to certain hrs, whereas Sea division clearance can be done anytime 24/7 smile.gif

Just curious,
1) Meaning by not over Rm500? Even if the item is not taxable but the amount I paid is more than 500 so what kind of tax will I be imposed?
2) How should I pay tax, let say the good import is taxable. So do I just go to customer during the arrival and declare the tarif code to the custom and the goods value? So the goods value include shipping? What if the custom doesn't now agree with the tarif code I given? Regarding the tax declaration, how should i need to do? The shipper side will help me to declare or I need to go to custom and declare my self. Any appointed agent where I can apply and how much will they charge per trasnsaction.
3) Under what conditions, AP or import license is required? I tried to buy some dolls from china in buck and was adviced by my shipping company that I need AP or import license to bring those goods. So does it apply to those MC mark for those softtoys?
4) How many is consider self use or gift?

depenf on what item u are buying..if ur item sometimes ir more than /less than rm500 which u got tax, they will told u that its import procedure not under own usage category.
the custom officer will imform u that ur item need to be collected at their office and they would tell u on how to pay on the spot if ur item got tax.
normally 1-5 item is consider own usageif the value is not high/over the limit they set

just let the custom know is fake goods. you got to pay custom tax if got caught or if they call you.

they probably charge 20% to 30%. Nextime, let your seller know not to send with invoice. (optional : email)

atleast you can get your way out from custom by saying the imitation goods cost less than RM100.

I tried this with clothings and is based on true story, please do not blame if it doesn't work
